Before First Use
Prepare your espresso machine for its first use:
- Remove all packaging materials from the appliance and accessories.
- Place the appliance on a flat, stable surface with at least 10 cm of free space around it. It is not suitable for installation in a cabinet or outdoor use.
- Flush the machine with clean water by following these steps:
- Ensure all buttons are off and the steam/hot water knob is closed (turn clockwise).
- Fill the water tank with cold water up to the MAX level. Using filtered water is recommended for better coffee and reduced limescale. Never use carbonated water.
- Reinsert the tank, ensuring it is correctly positioned.
- Place the filter into the funnel (without coffee powder).
- Place a jug under the coffee spout.
- Connect to the power source and turn the on/off switch to '1'. The red lamp will illuminate.
- Turn the control knob to the coffee/hot water position. The pump will start. Once water flows out, turn the control knob to the heating-up position and wait for the green lamp to illuminate, indicating pre-heating is complete. Then, turn the control knob back to the coffee/hot water position to clean the machine.
- Swing out the steam/hot water nozzle to the right and place a suitable container underneath it.
- Plug in the mains supply and press the on/off switch to '1'. Turn the control knob to the steam function position and wait for the green indicator to light up. Slowly turn the steam control knob counter-clockwise; steam will emerge from the frothing device.
- Turn the control knob to the heating-up position and the on/off switch to '0' to cut off the power.
- Important: The machine must be flushed before brewing espresso to fill the boiler with water. If the machine has not been used for a few days, flush it with fresh water before use.
- Note: Initial pump operation may produce a sound as air is expelled, which is normal and will stop after about 20 seconds.
Using the Espresso Machine
Making Espresso
- Select the appropriate filter (smaller for one cup, larger for two) and fit it into the filter holder.
- Add coffee using the measuring spoon (one full spoon per cup). Level the coffee and lightly tamp it. Wipe any excess coffee from the rim. Ensure the ground coffee is suitable for espresso machines. Avoid tamping too hard or too lightly for optimal extraction.
- Attach the filter holder to the appliance by turning it to the right to lock it. Place one or two cups underneath, centering the cup(s). Ensure the on/off switch is on and the green lamp is illuminated. Turn the control knob to the coffee/hot water position.
- When the desired amount of coffee is brewed (optimal dosage is 30ml per cup), turn the control knob to the heating-up position. If no more coffee is being made, switch off the appliance using the on/off switch.
- Remove the filter holder by turning it to the left. Some water may remain in the filter, which is normal.
- To remove used coffee grounds, lift the plastic pressing block to press the filter's edge, then invert the filter holder and tap out the grounds.
- Note: If the green indicator light turns off during operation, turn the control knob to the heating-up position to pre-heat again. Once the green light is on, you can continue making espresso. The green light cycles on and off to maintain the correct water temperature.
- Important: Do not leave the coffee maker unattended during brewing.
Frothing Milk for Cappuccino
- Prepare espresso as described above.
- Ensure the water tank is filled.
- Turn the control knob to the steam function position and wait for the green indicator to illuminate, signifying the boiler has reached the correct temperature.
- Partially fill a jug with cold, semi-skimmed milk (cold milk yields the best results). Select a jug size that accommodates milk expansion (up to three times its volume).
- Position the jug under the steam nozzle.
- Insert the nozzle about 20mm deep into the milk. Turn the steam control knob counter-clockwise. The milk will begin to froth and increase in volume.
- Once the milk volume has doubled, fully immerse the nozzle and continue heating. Stop the steam by turning the steam control knob clockwise when the desired temperature (around 60°C) is reached.
- Turn the control knob to the heating-up position and the on/off switch to '0' to turn off the appliance.
- Note: Never turn the steam control knob rapidly to avoid rapid steam accumulation and potential explosion risk.
- Important: Never operate the steam nozzle for longer than 2 minutes at a time.
- Important: Do not allow the milk to boil, as this will spoil the coffee's flavor.
- Important: If making multiple cappuccinos, prepare all espressos first, then froth the milk for all of them.
- Important: Clean the steam outlet with a damp sponge immediately after use, being careful as it may still be hot.
Making Hot Water
- Set the on/off switch to '1' and the steam control knob to '0'. Turn the control knob to the heating-up position. The red light will illuminate, then turn off, and the green light will illuminate when the correct temperature is reached.
- Turn the steam control knob counter-clockwise from '0' to '+'. Turn the control knob to the coffee/hot water position; hot water will flow from the steam/hot water nozzle.
- Important: Hot water may spray initially. Keep the steam nozzle close to the inside of the cup and avoid contact with skin to prevent burns.
Producing Steam to Heat Liquids
The steam/hot water nozzle (without the frothing device) can be used for hot beverages like hot chocolate, water, or tea:
- Open the tank cover, remove the tank, and fill it with water, ensuring the level does not exceed the 'MAX' mark. Reinsert the tank correctly.
- Set the on/off switch to '1'; the red light will illuminate.
- Turn the steam control knob to '0' and the control knob to the heating-up position. The appliance will pre-heat until the green light illuminates.
- Dip the steam/hot water nozzle into the liquid to be heated. Slowly turn the steam control knob counter-clockwise to start producing steam.
- Turn the steam control knob to '0' when the desired temperature is reached.
- Turn the on/off switch to '0' to cut off the power supply.
Cleaning and Maintenance
- Never immerse the cord, plug, or appliance in water or other liquids.
- Always unplug the machine and ensure it has cooled down before cleaning.
- Non-electrical parts can be washed in warm, soapy water. Dry them thoroughly before reuse. These parts are not dishwasher safe. Never use abrasive detergents.
- Steam/hot water nozzle: Pull out the rubber tube downwards and wash thoroughly. Check and unblock the nozzle hole with a pin if necessary.
Descaling
Descale the appliance monthly to maintain coffee taste and prevent damage:
- If using solid descaler, ensure it dissolves completely in cold water before adding to the tank. Never use descalers based on mineral acids (sulfuric, hydrochloric, sulfamic, acetic acid/vinegar) as they can damage the machine.
- Mix descaler with cold water according to product instructions. Fill the water tank to the MAX level with the solution and reinsert it.
- Insert the funnel into the appliance.
- Place a cup under the steam/hot water nozzle.
- Connect to power, turn the on/off switch to '1'. Turn the steam control knob counter-clockwise to '+'. Turn the control knob to the coffee/hot water position; water will flow out. Repeat until half the water remains in the tank. Turn the control knob to the warming-up position to stop the appliance and let the descaler sit for at least 15 minutes.
- Let the machine rest for 15 minutes. Then, press the coffee on/off button and function button until the water tank is empty. Rinse thoroughly.
- Restart the unit and repeat the previous step until no descaler remains.
- Brew coffee without coffee powder. Fill with tap water to the MAX level. Turn the on/off switch to '1'. Turn the steam control knob counter-clockwise to '+'. Turn the control knob to the coffee/hot water position; water will flow out. Continue until the tank is empty.
- Repeat step 6 at least 3 times to ensure the pipes are clean.
