Oven Door Lock System
The oven door lock system uses a solenoid-activated, push-push mechanism. The door locks when the CLEAN function is programmed and the solenoid is activated, extending a plunger and moving an actuator rod to lock the door. After the clean cycle, the solenoid retracts, unlocking the door.
Diagrams illustrate the door lock mechanism in locked and unlocked states.
Ignition System Operation
Explains Ohm's Law (I = E/R) and its application to the ignition system. A cold ignitor has high resistance, resulting in low current flow. As the ignitor heats up, its resistance decreases, allowing more current to flow. This current heats a bimetal coil, which in turn heats and bends a bimetal arm in the gas safety valve, opening it to allow gas flow to the burner. When the oven reaches temperature, the oven control relay opens, power is removed, and the bimetal arm cools and closes the valve, extinguishing the flame.
Diagrams illustrate the electrical circuit and the gas safety valve operation.
Typical Gas Range Wiring Diagram

Diagram illustrates the current flow path.
The Oven Temperature Sensor
The oven temperature sensor is a Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD) located at the upper left rear corner of the oven cavity. It is a nonadjustable assembly that can be checked at room temperature or at 350°F. Resistance values for various temperatures are provided. A resistance of less than 550 ohms indicates a shorted sensor, and greater than 3000 ohms indicates an open sensor. These conditions will turn off bake and broil functions.
Oven Temperature Sensor Test Procedure
- Use an ohmmeter set to R x 10.
- With no power applied, touch ohmmeter leads to the sensor connector pins.
- Compare the reading to the provided chart for corresponding temperature and resistance values.
Temperature (°F) | Resistance (Ω) |
---|---|
32 ± 1.9 | 1000 ± 4.0 |
75 ± 2.5 | 1091 ± 5.3 |
250 ± 4.4 | 1453 ± 8.9 |
350 ± 5.4 | 1654 ± 10.8 |

AccuBake™ Temperature Management System
The AccuBake™ system improves baking results by allowing Bake and Broil elements to cycle independently or together for more even temperatures. The Relay Cycling Chart details how relays operate the elements for various bake and broil temperatures.
