FASTENING THE COOKTOP
Each cooktop is provided with an installation kit including brackets and screws for fastening the cooktop to benches from 30 to 40mm thick.
Models DEGHSL60, DEGHSL75 (fig. 3a): The kit includes two "F" type brackets (front), two "R" type brackets (rear), and four self-threading screws "S".
Model DEGHSL90 (fig. 3b): The kit includes four "F" type brackets (front), three "R" type brackets (rear), and seven self-threading screws "S".
- Cut the unit according to the dimensions in fig. 2a.
- Stretch gasket "G" over the edge of the hole made, being careful to overlay the junction edges.
- Fasten the brackets "F" and "R" to the appropriate socket holes, without tightening the screws "S" for the moment. Ensure tabs are mounted correctly (figs. 3a, 3b, 3c, 3d). Rotate tabs so the cooktop fits into the cutout.
- Place the cooktop into the cutout and position it correctly.
- Put the brackets "F" and "R" into place; tooth "A" of the brackets should go into the hole (figs. 3c, 3d).
- Tighten screws "S" until the cooktop is completely secured to the bench.
- Using a sharp cutter or trimmer knife, trim excess sealing material around the edge of the cooktop. Take care not to damage the workbench.
Figures 3a, 3b show bracket types. Figures 3c, 3d illustrate rear and front fixing details.
GAS SUPPLY
This appliance is suitable for use with Natural Gas or ULPG (check the "gas type" sticker attached to the appliance).
For Natural Gas, the gas supply must be regulated to obtain a pressure of 1 kPa:
- With the two semi-rapid (SR) burners operating at maximum - model DEGHSL60 only.
- With the triple-ring (TR) burner operating at maximum - model DEGHSL75 only.
- With the dual (DB) burner operating at maximum (inside and outside flames simultaneously) - model DEGHSL90 only.
For ULPG models, connect the gas supply directly to the appliance test point adaptor (supplied with the conversion kit) and ensure the supply pressure is regulated to 2.75 kPa.
Do NOT force the "elbow" rotation prior to loosening the nut. Do NOT over-tighten the nut at the "elbow".
- After connecting the gas supply, check piping and connections for leaks using a soap and water solution. Bubbles indicate a leak; tighten or replace connections as appropriate. Warning: Do not use any naked flame to check for leaks.
- The operation of the appliance MUST be tested before leaving.
- Adjust the test point pressure or supply pressure to the value appropriate for the gas type.
- Turn on appliance gas controls and light each burner. Check for a well-defined blue flame without yellow tipping. If any abnormality is evident, check burner flame spreader and cap/s are properly located.
- Check the minimum burner setting by quickly rotating the gas control knob from maximum to minimum; the flame must not go out. If adjustment is required, carry out the "MINIMUM BURNER SETTING ADJUSTMENT" procedure described below.
- If satisfactory performance cannot be obtained, the installer shall check the installation and notify the local gas supply authority for a gas supply problem, or contact Customer Service to obtain the nearest authorized DeLonghi Service Agent.
- Where the appliance data plate cannot be easily read, affix the duplicate data plate and the duplicate Natural gas / ULPG conversion label (if applicable) to an adjacent surface.
Figures 4a, 4b show gas connections for Natural Gas and ULPG. Figure 4c illustrates leak checking.
INSTALLATION WITH A FLEXIBLE HOSE ASSEMBLY
If installing with a hose assembly, refer to the network operator or gas supplier for gas type confirmation. The wall connector should be between 800 mm to 850 mm above the floor and 250 mm outside the appliance width. The supply connection point must be accessible. Flexible hose assemblies should be AS/NZS 1869 Class B or Class D certified. The thread connection shall be Rp 1/2" (ISO 7-1) male.
IMPORTANT WARNING: After connection, check the hose is not kinked, subjected to abrasion, or permanently deformed. Ensure the hose is not near hot surfaces (e.g., base of metal hotplate, underbench oven). The hose assembly shall be as short as practicable and comply with AS/NZS5601. Restrain the hose assembly from accidental contact with the flue outlet of an underbench oven.

Control temperature from "Low" to "High" (maximum). To switch off, turn knob clockwise until the safety click. Note: when using a burner at minimum, turn knob clockwise past maximum to reach the off position.
If lighting any burner produces an abnormal flame, switch it off and relight using the minimum setting. If the flame is still abnormal after relighting, turn off the burner and contact Customer Service for the nearest authorized DeLonghi Service Agent.
In case of mains failure, light the burner with a match or lighted taper.
Note: When the cooktop is not in use, set gas knobs to closed positions and close the cock valve on the gas bottle or main supply line.
Figures 8a and 8b illustrate knob operation.
LIGHTING GAS BURNERS FITTED WITH FLAME FAILURE SAFETY DEVICE
To light a burner:
- Turn the knob (figs. 8a - 8b) anti-clockwise to the maximum aperture (symbol "? High"), push in and hold; this will light the gas. If no mains electrical supply, use a lighted match near the burner.
- Wait about ten seconds after the gas burner has been lit before releasing the knob (valve activation delay).
- Adjust the gas valve to the desired position.
Important: If the burner flame goes out, the safety valve will automatically stop the gas flow. To relight, return the knob to the closed "?" position (burner off), wait for at least 1 minute, and repeat the lighting procedure. If your local gas supply makes it difficult to light the burner at maximum, set the knob to minimum and repeat.
DUAL BURNER - MODELS DEGHSL90 ONLY
The Dual Burner is flexible, allowing different regulations and optimal cooking. It consists of an inner and outer crown, which can be used together or separately.
The Dual burner is controlled by two separate knobs (fig. 9): one knob for the inner crown only (symbol "? Inner"), and one knob for the outer crown only (symbol "? Outer").
The Dual burner can be used:
- As a small burner (flame produced only by the inner crown).
- As an Ultra-rapid burner (flame produced only by the outer crown).
- As a high-power burner (all flames produced simultaneously by inner and outer crown).
IMPORTANT: After using the dual burner, check both control knobs are in the closed "?" position.
Figure 9 illustrates dual burner operation and control knobs.
COOKING HINTS FOR GAS HOBS
- Choose the burner according to the diameter of the pans and energy required. The largest burner is suitable for boiling, sealing meat, or quick-cooking foods, while the smallest is for stews and sauces.
- Always ensure you use the correct size of saucepan.
- For fast boiling, ensure the flame just reaches the edge of the pan. Flames going up the side waste heat and slow down boiling.
- For optimum efficiency, use a wok or pan no smaller than 230mm diameter.
- Saucepans with heavy handles are safer as they are less likely to tip.
- Pans positioned centrally on burners are more stable. Position pan handles safely to avoid accidental knocking.
Deep Fat Frying:
- Fill the pan only one-third full of oil.
- DO NOT cover the pan with a lid and DO NOT leave the pan unattended.
- In the event of a fire, leave the pan where it is, turn off all controls, and smother the flames with a damp cloth or correct fitting lid.
- DO NOT use water on the fire.
- Leave the pan to cool for at least 30 minutes.
WARNING - VERY IMPORTANT NOTICE: Cooking vessels become hot during use. Pay special attention not to touch hot vessels, especially when operating control knobs.
