First Use Instructions and Warnings
Initial Setup: The system comes with the central unit and receiver pre-paired from the factory. During installation, the receiver unit only needs to be connected to the nearby wireless network.
- Upon first power-up, the receiver unit's LED 1 will blink slowly, indicating that it needs to be connected to a Wi-Fi router with internet access.
- Insert 2 AAA alkaline batteries (not included) into the central unit and turn it on by pressing the ON/OFF button. The display will show settings as described previously.
- Connect the receiver unit to a 230V power source. This should only be done by qualified personnel. Verify correct operation by checking the LED status and using the On/Off button.
Connecting the Thermostat to the Internet via Wi-Fi with the Mobile App
- Connect your mobile phone to the nearby 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. Activate GPS on your smartphone. For a quick setup, ensure your phone, thermostat, and receiver are all within close proximity (1-3 meters).
- Important Note on Wi-Fi Frequency: Verify that you have a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network available and that your phone is connected to it. Many modern routers broadcast both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks. The PNI CT36 thermostat can ONLY connect to the 2.4 GHz network, as it does not support 5 GHz. If you encounter issues, consult a specialist for router configuration.
- Download the “TuyaSmart” application from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Install the app and create a new account by tapping “Sign Up” and following the on-screen instructions.
- Add the device by tapping the '+' button in the top right corner.
- Navigate to “All Devices” and select the “Small Home Appliances” category.
- Find and select “Thermostat” or “Heater” from the list. Follow the on-screen steps. Confirm your Wi-Fi network name and enter the password for the internet network your phone is connected to. If your network is not automatically detected, ensure your GPS location is active and your phone is connected to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
- Press and hold the pairing button on the receiver unit to enter Wi-Fi pairing mode. LED 1 will blink rapidly. (Note: A slow blink indicates it is not yet connected to the internet).
- On your phone, tap the “Confirm indicator rapidly blink” checkbox.
- Wait a moment for the connection to complete. LED 1 on the receiver will stop blinking. The connection to the internet via Wi-Fi is now successful.
If LED 1 continues to blink slowly, the connection was not successful. Please try again from step 1.
First Use of the Thermostat
- With the central unit screen on, adjust the set temperature higher or lower than the current room temperature.
- Within 90 seconds, the central unit will send the command to the receiver unit. The receiver will confirm by turning LED 1 on/off and emitting an audible 'click', indicating the internal relay has been activated.
- Access the thermostat via the “TuyaSmart” mobile application (ensure the device appears online after internet configuration). Tap on the device to access its controls. Use the '+' and '-' buttons to adjust the set temperature higher or lower than the current room temperature.
- Within 90 seconds, the application will send the command via the internet to the receiver unit. The receiver will confirm with LED 1 and an audible 'click'. The temperature displayed on the central unit will update accordingly.
If the temperature adjustment does not occur within 90-180 seconds (2 minutes), re-verify that you have set the temperature higher/lower than the current room temperature and check that the device is online.
Pairing the Central Unit with the Receiver Unit
Perform this procedure only if absolutely necessary, such as if the device appears offline in the app after 10 minutes, the signal icon is missing from the screen, LED 1 on the receiver is off, or the units are not communicating.
- Press and hold the pairing button on the receiver until LED 1 blinks rapidly.
- With the central unit screen completely off (press the On/Off button), press and hold the 'M' button on the central unit until a 4-digit code and 3 symbols appear on the screen. Immediately press the "Up arrow" button to initiate pairing.
- LED 1 will blink slowly. Wait a few moments until LED 1 stops blinking. The signal icon on the central unit display will blink for a few moments and then remain on, confirming successful pairing.
- Turn the central unit On/Off and test its functionality by setting the temperature higher or lower than the current reading. Observe the receiver unit's relay activation: an audible click and a change in LED 1 status (On or Off).
Delete/Cancel All Pairings
On the receiver unit, press and hold both the pairing button and the On/Off button simultaneously for 5 seconds until LED1 and LED2 light up. Release the buttons.
Once the LEDs turn off, all pairings have been cleared. Proceed with pairing the central unit to the receiver, and then pairing the system to the Wi-Fi network via the mobile app.
Weak or Lost Signal / Malfunction
RF Signal Loss: If the RF signal between the receiver and central unit is lost or disconnected, the signal icon will disappear from the central unit's screen.
Wireless Disconnection: If the receiver unit disconnects from Wi-Fi, LED 1 will blink slowly. Check and replace batteries if necessary.
Troubleshooting Steps:
- Bring the units closer to each other and the receiver unit closer to the Wi-Fi router. Check the device status again.
- If normal operation does not resume within a few minutes and LED 1 continues to blink, clear all existing pairings and re-execute the pairing procedures: first, pair the receiver with the central unit, then pair with the Wi-Fi router using the mobile app.
Set Date and Time
With the central unit screen on, press and hold the 'M' button for 5-6 seconds until the hour display starts blinking.
- The hour '00:00' will be highlighted. Set the minutes using the Up and Down buttons.
- Press the 'M' button again to proceed.
- Set the hour using the Up and Down buttons.
- Press the 'M' button again to proceed.
- Select the day of the week using the Up and Down buttons.
- Press the 'M' button to confirm.
- Save the settings by pressing the ON/OFF button or wait approximately 15 seconds for the settings to be saved automatically.
Open Window Detection Function
When the "Open Window Detection" (OWD) mode is activated in the advanced settings, the system will automatically stop heating if a sudden temperature drop is detected (default setting: 2°C decrease within 15 minutes). This function is useful for ventilation purposes when a door or window is opened.
The system will return to its previous operating mode after 30 minutes, and the "OP" icon will disappear from the screen. Any button press during this 30-minute period will cancel the OWD function and return the system to its previous operating mode.
Other Functions Available in the App
The “TuyaSmart” application provides access to the following functions:
- Display of measured and programmed/desired temperatures.
- Heating Status Display: Shows "Heating" when the heating is active.
- Operating Modes: Manual, Eco (economic), and Automatic (based on daily schedule).
- Key Lock: Activates a "Child Lock" feature to prevent accidental button presses on the thermostat.
- Daily Programming: Set schedules for 7 days a week with up to 4 time periods per day.
- Timed Programming: Set specific timed heating events.
Daily Program Configuration
This configuration can be performed either through the mobile application or directly on the thermostat. To access programming settings on the thermostat, press and hold the 'P' button for 6-7 seconds.
The days of the week are fixed from Monday (1) to Sunday (7), with each day having 4 programmable time periods (1-4). Each press of the 'P' button advances to the next setting.
- Press and hold 'P' for 3 seconds. The "time" display will blink. Adjust the value using the '+' and '-' buttons.
- Press the 'P' button. The temperature display will blink. Adjust the desired temperature using the '+' and '-' buttons.
- Press the 'P' button to move to the next time period.
- Repeat this process similarly for other days and time periods.
