4. Tips for Cooking Great Tasting Rice
4.1 How to Cook Perfect Rice
- Measure Accurately: Use the provided measuring cup (1 full cup = 180ml).
- Rinse the Rice: Rinse in a sieve or bowl with cold water 2-3 times until water runs clear.
- Be Accurate with Water: Water level greatly affects texture. Fill to the underside of the line for perfect rice. Softer rice requires filling to the top of the line; harder rice requires filling 2-3mm below the line.
- Stir and Loosen: Once cooking is complete and the unit is in KEEP WARM, stir and loosen the rice with the spatula to release moisture and achieve fluffy rice.
4.2 Our Tips for Rice Cooking and Getting Perfect Results
- Choose rice with fewer broken grains to avoid sogginess.
- Rice batches can vary in water absorption; adjust water accordingly. Newer rice may need less water.
- Some rice varieties may not require rinsing.
- If rice is too soft, reduce water by 3-4mm next time. If too hard, add 3-4mm more water.
- ? Do not use quick cook, partially cooked, or parboiled rice.
5. How to Use the Steam Function
Use the appliance as a standalone steamer or steam food while cooking rice. For combined cooking, add the steaming basket above the rice.
Estimated Cooking Times for Steaming:
INGREDIENTS | AMOUNT | COOKING TIME | TIPS FOR STEAMING |
---|---|---|---|

11. Troubleshooting Guide
PROBLEM | POSSIBLE CAUSE |
---|---|
Rice cooks too hard or too soft | Ensure appliance is on a flat surface. Rice texture varies by processing and age. PRESET function may soften rice. FAST COOK may harden rice. Loosen rice after cooking. Ensure heating element and bowl bottom are clean. Rice may need more rinsing if too sticky. Check MENU setting and water level. Ensure steam vent cap is on. Ensure power cord is fully inserted. |
Rice is scorched/burnt | Ensure nothing is stuck to the heating element or bowl bottom. Rice may not have been washed enough. |
Boils over while cooking | Check MENU setting and water level. Ensure steam vent cap is on. Ensure power cord is fully inserted. |
Unable to start cooking or buttons won't respond | For START, KEEP WARM, CANCEL, press and hold for 2 seconds. |
A noise is heard during cooking or keep warm | Clicking noise is the microprocessor adjusting temperature. A 'sparking' noise may occur if the inner bowl is moist; ensure it is dry. |
Steam comes out from between the outer lid and main body | Check outer lid fitting and gasket. Clean outer lid gasket if dirty. |
Cake is not cooked or doesn't rise | Cooking time may be too short. Beat egg whites until foamy. Measure ingredients accurately. Do not over-mix batter. Avoid adding too many extra ingredients. Bake immediately after preparing batter. |
Cake rises too much | Do not add too much baking powder or soda. |
Cake is difficult to release | Grease inner bowl well. Leave cake to cool completely. |
The cake breaks easily | Allow cake to cool completely before handling. |
The cake is scorched/burnt | Cooking time may have been too long. Do not place other pans or wax paper inside the appliance. |
Food does not steam | Ensure sufficient water for steaming. Do not overfill steaming basket. Reduce food piece size or increase cooking time. |
Steamed food is too hard | Steaming time may have been too short for vegetables. Steaming time may have been too long for fish/meat. |
Steamed food is cold | Remove food immediately after cooking cycle ends. Do not leave on KEEP WARM for extended periods. |
Rice has a smell, is yellow, or has excessive moisture (KEEP WARM) | Do not keep very small amounts of rice on KEEP WARM. Avoid using KEEP WARM for more than 12 hours. Type of rice/water may cause yellowing. Ensure spatula is not left in the inner bowl. |
Appliance starts cooking immediately (TIMER COOKING) | Ensure rice was loosened after cooking. Check for residual smells from previous cooking. Minimum default time is 70 mins; shorter times start immediately. |
Food isn't ready at the set time | Cooking may be affected by room temperature or low water level. Check for power interruptions. |
