Install
Installation Procedure
This unit can be used in various configurations depending on your speaker layout and connected devices. Follow these steps for a smoother installation process.
Step 1: Speaker Layout
Choose a speaker layout from pages P8-P12 that suits your speakers and usage. Refer to the illustrations and explanations for placement. Combinations are detailed on P13.
Step 2: Connect the Speakers
Refer to P14 for standard connections (pages P8-P11) and P15 for bi-amping speaker connections (P12). Prepare necessary cables beforehand.
Step 3: Connect the TV & AV Components
Refer to P16-P21 for connecting external devices like TVs and Blu-ray players, as well as antennas. P20 covers Multi-zone Connection. Ensure you have the correct cables and understand connection types on your devices.
Speaker Layout Details
7.1 Channel System:
This system uses front speakers for stereo sound, a center speaker for dialogue, surround speakers for rear sound, and a powered subwoofer for bass. Adding surround back speakers creates a 7.1-channel system, enhancing immersion and allowing for Dolby Atmos listening modes when the input format is Dolby Atmos.
Speaker Placement Recommendations:
- Front speakers: Position at ear height.
- Surround speakers: Position just above ear height.
- Center speaker: Aim towards the listening position.
- Powered subwoofer: Optimal placement is between the center speaker and a front speaker for natural sound.
- Surround back speakers: Position at ear height.
Speaker Identification:
- 1, 2: Front Speakers
- 3: Center Speaker
- 4, 5: Surround Speakers
- 6: Powered Subwoofer
- 7, 8: Surround Back Speakers
5.1.2 Channel System-1 (Front High Speakers/Rear High Speakers):
This system adds front height or rear height speakers to a 5.1 setup, enabling Dolby Atmos for overhead sound effects. Height speakers should be at least 3'/0.9 m higher than front speakers. Front high speakers should be directly above front speakers, and rear high speakers should match the distance of front speakers. All should face the listening position.
- 7, 8: Height Speakers (Choose Front High or Rear High)
5.1.2 Channel System-2 (Ceiling Speakers):
This system adds ceiling speakers (top front, top middle, or top rear) to a 5.1 setup for Dolby Atmos overhead sound. Ceiling speakers should be positioned relative to the seating position, with pairs matching the distance between front speakers. Dolby Laboratories recommends this for the best Dolby Atmos effect.
- 7, 8: Height Speakers (Choose Top Front, Top Middle, or Top Rear)
5.1.2 Channel System-3 (Dolby Enabled Speakers):
This system uses Dolby enabled speakers (front or surround) that face the ceiling to bounce sound for overhead effects, enabling Dolby Atmos. Place them above front or surround speakers.
- 7, 8: Height Speakers (Choose Dolby Enabled Speakers - Front or Surround)
Bi-Amping the Speakers
Bi-amping allows connection of front speakers supporting this feature to improve bass and treble quality. This setup supports up to 5.1 channels, as it requires separate amplifiers for tweeters and woofers. Center, surround speakers, and a powered subwoofer can also be connected.
- 1, 2: Front Speakers (Bi-Amping)
- 3: Center Speaker
- 4, 5: Surround Speakers
- 6: Powered Subwoofer
Speaker Combinations
Up to two powered subwoofers can be connected in any combination.

(*) It is not possible to connect Bi-Amp and ZONE 2 speakers at the same time.
Step 2: Connect the Speakers
Standard Connections:
Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and – to –) for each speaker channel. Incorrect polarity can result in poor bass output. Up to two powered subwoofers can be connected; the same signal is output from each SUBWOOFER PRE OUT jack.
Setup:
- Configure speaker settings in Initial Setup > 1. AccuEQ Room Calibration (P22).
- For speakers with 4 Ω to 6 Ω impedance, adjust Speaker Impedance to "4ohms" in the Setup menu (Press ☰ > 2. Speaker > Configuration).
Important: Ensure speaker wires do not protrude from terminals to prevent short circuits and activation of the protection circuit.
Connecting with Bi-Amping Speakers:
Refer to "Standard Connections" (P14) for center, surround, and subwoofer. Remove the jumper bar between woofer and tweeter jacks on front speakers before connecting. Ensure correct polarity for each channel.
Setup:
- Configure speaker settings in Initial Setup > 1. AccuEQ Room Calibration (P22).
- For speakers with 4 Ω to 6 Ω impedance, adjust Speaker Impedance to "4ohms" in the Setup menu.
Important: Ensure speaker wires do not protrude from terminals to prevent short circuits and activation of the protection circuit.
Step 3: Connect the TV & AV Components
1. Connect the TV:
- To ARC TV: Use an HDMI cable to connect to an HDMI IN jack on the TV that supports ARC.
- Setup for ARC: In the Initial Setup menu, select "Yes" for "5. Audio Return Channel" (P23). Consult your TV's manual for specific connection and setup instructions.
- To Non-ARC TV: Connect using an HDMI cable (illustration 'a') and a digital optical cable (illustration 'b'). A digital optical cable is not needed if you are using an external device like a set-top box connected to this unit.
The ARC feature allows TV audio signals to be played through this unit via HDMI.
2. Connect the HDMI AV Component:
Connect AV components with HDMI jacks. For CEC-compliant devices, features like input switching and standby sync are available. Use a high-speed HDMI cable for 4K or 1080p video.
Setup for HDMI CEC & Standby Through: After Initial Setup, press ☰, navigate to "5. Hardware" > "HDMI", and set "HDMI CEC" to "On". HDMI Standby Through will default to "Auto (Eco)". Note: HDMI CEC is automatically enabled if "Yes" was selected for Audio Return Channel during Initial Setup.
For digital surround sound, set audio output to "Bitstream output" on the connected source device.
The HDMI CEC feature enables control of input switching, audio output, and volume via a CEC-compliant TV.
3. Connect the Non-HDMI AV Component:
Connect components without HDMI jacks by matching input and output jacks (e.g., CBL/SAT for video and audio). Video signals to VIDEO IN jacks are converted to HDMI for output.
For digital surround sound (e.g., Dolby Digital), use a digital coaxial or optical cable for audio.
Setup: For digital surround sound, set audio output to "Bitstream output" on the source device.
4. Connect the Audio Component:
Connect CD players via digital optical or analog audio cables. Turntables with MM cartridges connect to the PHONO jack. Turntables with built-in equalizers connect to other AUDIO IN jacks. For MC cartridges, use a compatible audio equalizer.
If the turntable has a ground wire, connect it to the GND terminal.
