Using a rapid immunochromatographic test, the Giardia antigen in your sample can be detected. Contents · 1 x pouch, each containing 1 test strip, 1 pipette, and 1 cotton swab · 1 x microtube with buffer · 1 x instructions for use/protocol Storage and use The rapid test should be stored at temperatures between 4°C and 21°C. An unopened package can be used until the indicated expiration date. An opened rapid test should be used immediately. Avoid freezing or heating the rapid test. Prolonged exposure to undesirable environmental temperatures may lead to reduced performance of the test. Test materials It is advised to collect the sample from either feces or a rectal swab from the animal being tested. Tissue culture samples can also be tested. It is recommended to test the samples as concentrated as possible. The samples should ideally be tested immediately after collection. If storage is necessary for a longer period, the samples should be kept at a temperature below -20°C. Precautions · Treat all samples as if they may carry infectious diseases. · Avoid contact between the pipette and your mouth/eyes. · Avoid eating, drinking, smoking, or applying cosmetics around the work area with the sample/test strip. · Do not use components that have exceeded their expiration date, and do not mix components from different batches. · Optimal results are achieved by strictly following this protocol. Accurate pipetting and sampling according to the protocol are essential to ensure precision. · The test strip is used as an optical reference after application. Therefore, do not touch the surface of the test strip and protect it from damage and contamination. Test Protocol 1. Open the packaging and check that the rapid test kit is complete (test strip, pipette, and cotton swab). Only take the number of pouches needed for use. An opened package must be used immediately. 2. Collect one sample per cotton swab. 3. Insert the cotton swab into the microtube and dissolve the sample in the liquid. 4. Allow the liquid to drain thoroughly from the cotton swab so that as much liquid as possible remains in the microtube. 5. Let the solution stand briefly to allow solid particles to settle at the bottom. If this takes too long, it is recommended to centrifuge the solution. 6. Take the pipette and aspirate as much of the liquid (the top, clear layer of the solution, excluding solid particles) as possible. 7. Pipette 3 to 4 drops of the liquid onto the test strip in the "S" zone. 8. Allow the liquid to react for 5-10 minutes, then read the results (see: interpretation of test results). The test result is not reliable after 20 minutes. Rapid test for the detection of Giardia antigen in dogs and cats ___________________________________________________________________________ Animal species: Felines Sample type: Feces Sample volume: 3-4 drops Reaction time: 5-10 minutes Characteristics: Accuracy: 98.6% Sensitivity: 99.0% Specificity: 98.4% Interpretation of test results To confirm the presence/absence of the Giardia antigen, a control line must always be present in the control zone (C). If no control line is visible, the test should be considered invalid. The results must be read within the given time frame. Invalid tests must be repeated using a new test. Positive result (Giardia is present): Two bands are visible in zone "T" and zone "C" (Fig. 4). The sample contains the Giardia antigen. Negative result (Giardia is absent): Only one band is visible in zone "C" (Fig. 6). The sample does not contain the Giardia antigen. Invalid result: No band is visible in zone "C". The result is invalid. Repeat the rapid test. Negative Positive Invalid Invalid Important: Sick animals that test negative should be retested within 2-3 weeks.
