This document provides instructions for the ROTHENBERGER RODIACUT 150 and RODIACUT 250 diamond core drill rigs.

Overview

The RODIACUT 150 and 250 are diamond core drill rigs designed for drilling in reinforced concrete, brickwork, asphalt, and other rock types using appropriate drill bits.

RODIACUT 150 (No.: FF30150)

This rig is intended to accommodate the RODIADRILL 160 and 200 drill motors.

RODIACUT 250 (No.: FF30250)

This rig is intended to accommodate the RODIADRILL 200 and 500 drill motors.

Components Overview (A)

The following components are identified in the overview diagrams:

As the system consists of coordinated components, please only use original ROTHENBERGER spare parts, accessories, and diamond drill bits to ensure optimum efficiency.

Start Up

Initial setup and preparation for operation.

Initial Setup Steps

  1. Positioning: Pay attention to the position of the ring bolts (5). They must not overlap the lower edge of the base plate.
  2. Measure and mark the centre for the borehole.
  3. Fold out the borehole centre indicator (6) and adjust and fasten the base plate (8).
  4. The optimal fastening method depends on site conditions (see Fastening Possibilities, item 3.3).
  5. Fine alignment can be achieved by tightening the four ring bolts (5) using the spirit levels (18).

⚠️ Every time before starting operation, ensure the drill rig is firmly fastened and cannot shake!

2) Electrical Safety

3) Personal Safety

4) Power Tool Use and Care

5) Service

1.3 Special Safety Instructions

Please read and be sure to understand all safety and working information for the drill motor being used!

Please observe the pertinent accident prevention regulations issued by the government safety organisation at the start of operation and when working with and carrying out maintenance work on the equipment.

Switch off water, gas, and electricity lines within the drilling area.

Make sure that facilities and equipment are not damaged and people are not injured by cooling water or drill cores falling from the borehole discharge side. This applies in particular to inhabited buildings.

Safeguard the core drill unit additionally against falling downward when drilling wall and overhead boreholes. The hand grip is not designed for the high impact following a fall and must not be used as a rope eye or for transportation and securing purposes.

Function of the Unit

3.1 Overview (A)

The components are listed in the 'Overview' section above.

3.2 Start of Operation

Positioning:

⚠️ Every time before start of operation make sure that the drill rig is firmly fastened and not able to shake!

3.3 Fastening Possibilities (B)

a) Dowel fastening on concrete or brickwork (picture B-1)

  1. Measure and drill a mounting hole for the dowel fastening.
    • Concrete (Item no. FF35120): Diameter 15 mm, Depth 65 mm
    • Brickwork (Item no. FF35121): Diameter 20 mm, Depth 85 mm
  2. Carefully clean the drill dust from the borehole.
  3. Apply the concrete dowel with expansion wedge or brickwork dowel (can be re-used up to 5 times).
  4. Concrete set: Turn the diamond knurl threaded bar into the dowel.
  5. Brickwork set: Screw the diamond knurl threaded bar with the grommet and mounted nut into the armature. Tighten the nut using an open-ended spanner.
  6. Attach the base plate (8) and fasten with the grommet and the wing nut.

b) Bracing with the quick clamp column (Item no. FF35015 picture B-2)

  1. Align the drill rig and attach the quick clamp column to the base plate of the drill rig.
  2. Extend the quick clamp column and clamp the drill rig.
  3. Minimum room height: ca. 1.7 m
  4. Maximum room height: ca. 3.0 m

Information: In order to avoid damage to the ceilings or walls by the quick clamp column, place a piece of wood or similar between the end of the column and the ceiling to distribute the contact pressure over a larger area.

Please read and be sure to understand the supplied quick clamp column instruction manual!

c) Vacuum set fastening (Item no. FF35710 = RC 150; FF35740 = RC 250; picture B-3) with vacuum pump (Item no. FF35200)

  1. Place the cellular rubber ring in the groove incorporated in the base plate (8) of the drill rig.
  2. Connect the vacuum set to the vacuum pump by means of the quick coupling.
  3. Connect the vacuum pump to the mains supply and switch on.
  4. Position the base plate (8) and insert the vacuum connecting piece with 3-way ball valve in the elongated hole of the base plate.
  5. Press firmly on the hand toggle of the ball valve and activate while simultaneously pressing the base plate onto the ground.
  6. Operate the ventilation button (9) in the foot plate to re-position the drill rig on the ground.

Max. drill range with vacuum technique:

⚠️ The vacuum technique is only to be used on smooth ground, as an adequate vacuum can only be produced here. Never suck in on plaster! The drill rig could break away from the wall.

In the event of a power failure, the safety tank on the RODIA-VAC vacuum pump ensures that the equipment remains firmly attached to the ground for approx. 1 - 2 minutes. This time period, however, is strongly dependent on the impermeability of the system and the condition of the ground.

Check the negative pressure constantly during drilling work. The pressure must not fall below 0.8 bar!

⚠️ Remove the equipment from the wall immediately in the event of a power failure. Danger due to the equipment falling off. Vacuum neutralised. Only work using slight feed pressure!

Please read and be sure to understand the supplied vacuum pump instruction manual!

3.4 Handling

Changing the side of the hand wheel:

⚠️ Make sure the feed gear cannot be operated unintentionally. Use the locking button (1) to secure the feed unit.

  1. Withdraw the black cap nut and remove the hand adapter (11).
  2. Insert on the desired side and re-secure using the cap nut.

Setting the drill angle:

  1. Loosen the toggle (7) and set the guide column (3) at the desired angle (75° - 60° - 45°).
  2. Re-tighten the toggle (7).

Applying the diamond drill:

⚠️ Make sure the feed gear cannot be operated unintentionally. Use the locking button (1) to secure the feed unit.

Proceed in the reverse order in order to remove.

Setting the depth control stop:

  1. Release the screw at the depth control stop (4) and set the desired drill depth.
  2. Re-tighten the screw firmly.

Water extraction device (accessory picture B-4):

PLEASE NOTE: Adequate water supply for cooling the drill bit must always be ensured, as drill bits can overheat very quickly and segments can come away.

Information: We strongly advise against the use of “water pressure reservoirs“ as from a drill diameter of 200 mm, as adequate control of the water supply is very restricted in this case.

Drilling:

Please read and be sure to understand the drill motor instruction manual!

  1. Turn on the water tap or switch on the water extractor. (There must at least be sufficient water pressure to move the arising drilling mud from the borehole)
  2. Release the locking device (1) on the feed gear and use the hand wheel (11) to turn the drill downward to the desired drill depth.
  3. Switch off the motor and crank back until the drill bit is completely visible.
  4. In case of seizure, start up the drill motor again at low speed using cooling water and withdraw the core bit!

Care and Maintenance

In order to avoid damage to the equipment and guarantee trouble-free work, all parts must be cleaned and lubricated regularly.

The drill rig must be rinsed off with water after every drilling application and the drilling mud cleaned off thoroughly. Please take special care with the guide column and the feed unit.

The following work should be carried out on a weekly basis at least. Carry out on an appropriately more frequent basis in the case of more intensive work.

Important! All maintenance, overhauling, and repair work must only be carried out by trained specialised staff.
