Efektor OD3603 Overview

The Efektor OD3603 emulates classic overdrive sounds, inspired by the early days of electric guitars and amplification where pushing amp gain resulted in loud, crunchy, saturated sounds with added sustain. The plugin offers five distinct overdrive models:

• Blues Overdrive: Imitates overdriven British amps.
• Boutique Overdrive: A custom-made overdrive with a fat and dynamic sound.
• Mad Overdrive: Hard, thick, and retains the dynamic of playing.
• Modern Overdrive: A new model that can be pushed into dense distortion.
• Pro Overdrive: Warm and tight, offering the classic screamer sound.

Installation

Mac OSX Installation:

Upon installation, you may be prompted for your password. Double-click the installer (.pkg) and follow the instructions. The installer typically points to default VST/VST3/AU/AAX plug-in and Standalone paths. Custom installation targets are also possible.

Default installation paths for Mac OSX:

• Mac Audio Unit: `/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/`
• Mac VST: `/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST/Kuassa/`
• Mac VST3: `/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/`
• Mac AAX: `/Library/Application Support/Avid/Audio/Plug-Ins/`

Windows Installation:

Double-click the installer (.exe) and follow the instructions. The installer typically points to your system's default plug-in paths. You can also specify a custom folder. Most VST hosts have a "Plugins" or "VSTplugins" folder, or you can configure the host to read any chosen folder.

Default installation paths for Windows:

• Windows 64-bit VST: `C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VstPlugins\Kuassa\`
• Windows 64-bit VST3: `C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\`

Uninstallation

Mac OSX Uninstallation:

Delete the plug-in file from its corresponding Plug-ins folder. Additionally, remove other related folders and files:

  • `/Users/[User Name]/Music/Kuassa/Presets/EfektorOD3603/`
• Files:

  • `/Users/[User Name]/Music/Kuassa/Settings/EfektorOD3603.setting`

Windows Uninstallation:

Use "Add/Remove Programs" or "Programs and Features" from the Windows Control Panel. If Efektor OD3603 is not listed, manually delete the .dll/.vst3/.aaxplugin file from your VST plug-in folder. After uninstallation, manually delete other Efektor OD3603 file resources:

• Folder: `C:\Users\[User Name]\Documents\Kuassa\Presets\EfektorOD3603\`
• Files: `C:\Users\[User Name]\Documents\Kuassa\Settings\EfektorOD3603.setting`

Authorization Process

Follow these steps to authorize your Efektor plug-in:

1. Upon first start of the plugin in evaluation mode, a pop-up window will appear.
2. To begin authorization, click the [File Button] in the top-left of the plug-in's interface. Select [Import License] from the options.
3. Locate the License File (`EfektorXX3603.kuassa`) obtained from the confirmation email after purchasing the plug-in(s) from the Kuassa web store or downloaded from the member area. This file contains your personal information used for authorization.
4. After locating the License File, a pop-up box will confirm successful authorization.
5. Verify authorization by clicking the Efektor logo in the bottom-left corner to open the About Box. If successful, your name or email address will be displayed, and the generated noise/silence from the evaluation version will be removed.

User Interface Controls

The Efektor OD3603 features a comprehensive interface. Here's a breakdown of the controls:

Preset Management

Presets for Efektor Plug-in(s) are stored in specific folders. All presets within these folders are recognized by the plugin. You can create sub-folders to group presets.

Preset Folder Locations:

• Mac: `Users/[YourName]/Music/Kuassa/Presets/EfektorOD3603`
• Windows: `~\Documents\Kuassa\Presets\EfektorOD3603`

To save a preset:

1. Set the plugin parameters to your desired settings.
2. Select "Save Preset" to overwrite the currently active preset.
3. Select "Save Preset As" to save current settings into a new preset file (e.g., `*.kdsp` for OD3603).

When using "Save Preset As...", ensure the correct preset folder is chosen so the plugin recognizes it automatically. You can create new folders or sub-folders via the "New Folder" button to organize presets into groups or banks.

Rack Extension Specifics (Propellerhead Reason)

Efektor is designed as an FX device and should be inserted as such, not as an instrument.

Controls:

• BYPASS: Turns the Rack Extension on or bypasses it.
• INPUT KNOB & INPUT METER: Control and display the input level. Aim for the meter to reach yellow for sufficient signal.
• TYPE SELECTOR: Choose from various emulated FX models.
• OVERDRIVE Knob: Adjusts the amount of overdrive.
• Tone Knob: Controls the tonality/timbre/color of the sound.
• Level Knob: Controls the overall output level.
• Dry / Wet Knob: Balances the direct and processed signals.
• ADDITIONAL BYPASS Switch: Toggles the effect unit On or Bypass.

CV INPUTS:

• CV Input Socket: Receives CV messages for controlling CV-enabled parameters from other devices.
• CV Input Trim: Turn counter-clockwise to reduce the intensity of incoming CV messages.

OVERSAMPLING:

Increases internal sampling frequency to reduce aliasing, with higher CPU usage.

Audio Input/Output Sockets:

Efektor is an FX, always add as an FX device.
