Damage can result from improper handling. 3 Philips · ProPix 650 1 General safety information Take note of all warning and safety notes indicated. Do not make any changes or settings that are not described in this user manual. Incorrect operation, and improper handling can lead to physical injury, damage to the product or loss of data. Setting up the product This product is for indoor use only. Place the product securely on a stable, flat surface. To help avoid possible injuries to persons or damage to the product itself, position all cables in such a way that no one will trip over them. Do not operate the product in damp rooms. Never touch the mains cable or the mains connection with wet hands. Never operate the product immediately after moving it from a cold location to a hot location. When the product is exposed to such a change in temperature, moisture may condense on the crucial internal parts. The product must have sufficient ventilation and must not be covered. Do not put the product in closed cabinets, boxes, or other enclosures when in use. Protect the product from direct sunlight, heat, intense temperature fluctuations and moisture. Do not place the product in the vicinity of heaters or air conditioners. Observe the information on temperature listed in the technical data (see Technical data, page 18). Prolonged operation of the product causes the surface to become hot. In case of overheating, the product automatically switches to standby mode. Do not allow liquids to leak into the product. Turn off the product and disconnect it from the mains supply if liquids or foreign substances leaked into the product. Have the product inspected by an authorised service centre. Always handle the product with care. Avoid touching the lens. Never place heavy or sharp objects on the product or on the power cable. If the product gets too hot or emits smoke, shut it down immediately and unplug the power cable. Have your product checked by an authorised service centre. Keep the product away from open flames (e.g. candles). The remote control is with batteries (type AAA). DANGER! Risk of explosion with incorrect type of batteries! There is a risk of explosion if the wrong battery type is used. Do not expose the batteries to excessive heat such as sunshine, or open fire. Do not expose the batteries to low air pressure at high altitude. Under the following conditions, a layer of moisture can appear inside the product which can lead to malfunctions: · if the product is moved from a cold to a warm area; · after a cold room is heated; · when the product is placed in a damp room. Proceed as follows to avoid any moisture buildup: 1 Seal the product in a plastic bag before moving it to another room, in order for it to adapt to room conditions. 2 Wait one to two hours before you take the product out of the plastic bag. The product should not be used in a very dusty environment. Dust particles and other foreign objects may damage the product. Do not expose the product to extreme vibrations. This may damage the internal components. Do not allow children to handle the product without supervision. The packing materials should be kept out of the hands of children. For your own safety, do not use the product during thunderstorms with lightning. Repairs Do not repair the product yourself. Improper maintenance can result in injuries or damage to the product. The product must be repaired by an authorised service centre. Please find the details of authorised service centres on the warranty card supplied with this product. Do not remove the type label from this product, as this will void the warranty. 4 Philips · ProPix 650 Power supply Use only a power adapter which is certified for this product (see Technical data, page 18). Check whether the mains voltage of the power supply matches the mains voltage available at the setup location. This product complies with the voltage type specified on the product. The power outlet shall be installed near the product and shall be easily accessible. CAUTION! Always use the button to turn the projector off. Turn off the product and unplug from the power outlet before cleaning the surface (see Cleaning, page 15). Use a soft, lint-free cloth. Never use liquid, gaseous or easily flammable cleaners (sprays, abrasives, polishes, alcohol). Do not allow any moisture to reach the interior of the product. DANGER! Risk of eye irritation! This product is equipped with a high power RGB laser, which emits very bright light. Do not look directly into the projector lens during operation. Place the projector 1 Place the projector on a flat surface such as a table in front of the projection surface. This is the most common way to position the projector for quick setup and portability. b Prepare the remote control 2 If the projection direction is incorrect, press on the projector or remote control to access the projector's settings menu and select SYSTEM > Projector Position > Front Table. Connect to power supply CAUTION! Always use the button to turn the projector on and off. 1 Select a supplied power cable with the correct plug (EU/UK/US/AU). 2 Connect the power cable to the AC power cable inlet. 3 Connect the power cable to an electrical socket. · The power LED on the projector blinks green. CAUTION! The improper use of batteries can lead to overheating, explosion, risk of fire and injury. Leaking batteries can possibly damage the remote control. Never expose the remote control to direct sunlight. Avoid deforming, dismantling or charging the batteries. Avoid exposure to open fire and water. Replace empty batteries immediately. Remove the batteries from the remote control if not in use for long periods of time. Dispose of the used batteries according to the manufacturer's instructions and local environment regulations for your region. 1 Open the battery compartment. 2 Insert the supplied batteries (type AAA) with correct polarity (+/-) indicated. 3 Close the battery compartment. · When using a remote control with infrared signals, point the remote control at the IR sensor on the projector, and make sure there 8 Philips · ProPix 650 is no obstacle between the remote control and the IR sensor. Power on and set up the projector Power on/off the projector · To turn on the projector, press on the projector or press on the remote control. The power LED on the projector turns from blinking green to green. · To turn off the projector, press on the projector/remote control. The projector enters standby mode and its power LED turns from green to blinking green. · To fully shut down the projector, disconnect the power cable from the electrical socket. Image focus adjustment You can adjust the image focus manually. · To manually adjust the image focus, rotate the zoom ring on the projector. Image shape adjustment You can adjust the image shape manually. To manually adjust the image shape: 1 Press on the projector or remote control to access the settings menu, go to DISPLAY > Keystone and press the OK button. 2 After the Keystone correction page displays. Follow the on-screen instructions to adjust the image shape. Set up the projector system When you turn on the projector for the first time or after it was reset to its factory default settings, the projector system will start and prompt you to set it up by making some basic settings. After the setup, you can start using the projector or continue to make other adjustments. Note: The default display language is English and not all languages are available. Screen size adjustment The projection screen size (or size of images) is determined by the distance between the lens of the projector and the projection surface. This projector has a projection distance of 2100 mm to 6300 mm, and thus creates a screen size of 60" to 180". Digital zooming You can use the digital zooming function to resize the screen size from 0.8x to 2.0x. 1 Press on the projector or remote control to access the settings menu, go to DISPLAY > Zoom and press the OK button. 2 Press / to adjust the screen size. The changes take effect immediately. 9 Philips · ProPix 650 4 Connect to playback devices Notice Make sure all devices are disconnected from their power supplies before establishing or changing any connections. Connect to devices through HDMITM You can connect a playback device (e.g. a Bluray player, gaming console, camcorder, digital camera or PC) to the projector through HDMITM connection. With this connection, images are shown on the projection screen, and audio is played on the projector. 1 Using an HDMITM cable, connect the HDMI port on the projector to an HDMITM output port on a playback device. Connect to a dongle You can connect a dongle (e.g. Amazon Fire Stick, Roku Stick or Chromecast) to the projector to easily watch videos over the internet. With this connection, images are shown on the projection screen, and audio is played on the projector. 1 Connect a dongle to the projector's HDMI port using an HDMITM cable. 2 Connect the dongle to the projector's USB-A port using a USB cable. External Dongle (5V/2A) (not included) 3 If the projector does not automatically switch to the correct input source, press on the projector or Source on the remote control to switch the input source to HDMI. Phones Tablets Computers Smart Sticks Game consoles DVD/VCR 2 If the projector does not automatically switch to the correct input source, press on the projector or Source on the remote control to switch the input source to HDMI. Connect to devices through VGA You can connect a playback device to the projector through VGA connection. With this connection, images are shown on the projection screen, and audio is played on the projector if the audio cable is connected . 1 Using a VGA cable, connect the Computer port on the projector to a VGA output port on a playback device. Computers 2 If the projector does not automatically switch to the correct input source, press 10 Philips · ProPix 650 on the projector or Source on the remote control to switch the input source to Computer. Connect to devices through composite video You can connect a playback device to the projector through composite video connection. With this connection, images are shown on the projection screen, and audio is played on the projector if the audio cable is connected . 1 Using a composite video cable, connect the Video port on the projector to a composite video output port on a playback device. 5 Connect to external speakers or headphones You can connect external speakers or headphones to the projector. With this connection, audio from the projector is played through the external speakers or headphones. · The internal speakers of the projector are deactivated automatically when external speakers or headphones are connected to the projector. DANGER! Danger of hearing damage! Before connecting the headphones, turn down the volume on the projector. Do not use the projector over a longer time at high volume especially when using headphones. This could lead to hearing damage. Game consoles DVD/VC Computers 2 If the projector does not automatically switch to the correct input source, press on the projector or Source on the remote control to switch the input source to Video. 11 Philips · ProPix 650 6 Change settings 1 Press on the projector or remote control to access the projector's settings menu. 2 Use the navigation buttons and the OK button to select a menu item. 3 Press / or / to select a value for the menu item. 4 Press the OK button to make the change. Note: For some menu items such as Digital Zoom, the change takes effect once you select a different value. 5 Press or EXIT one or more times to exit the projector's settings menu. DISPLAY settings You can view and change the following display settings. · Aspect Ratio: Set the image's aspect ratio. · Keystone: Manually correct the vertically keystone by adjusting the corners of the screen. · Position: Adjust the position of the projected image. This function is only available when a PC input signal is selected. The adjustment range may vary under different timings. · Phase: Adjust the clock phase to reduce image distortion. This function is only available when a PC input signal is selected. · H. Size: Adjust the horizontal width of the image. This function is only available when a PC input signal is selected. · Zoom: Scale down the projection image by up to 80% or scale up the projection image by up to 200%. The default value is 100% (no scale-down). · OverScan: Adjust the overscan rate from 0% to 5%. · Game mode: This function is favorable to frame rate reducing. Quick response time in native timing can be achieved. When enabled, the following settings will return to factory preset values: Aspect Ratio, OverScan, Zoom. IMAGE settings You can view and change the following image settings. · Color Mode: Select a predefined color brightness setting for picture and video display, or select User 1/User 2 to customize some of the sub-menus under the IMAGE menu, according to your selected input source. Tip: You can more quickly change the picture preset by pressing COLOR MODE on the projector or remote control. · Brightness: Adjust the display brightness. · Contrast: Adjust the display contrast. · Color Temperature: Select 5500K to enhance warm colors such as red; select 8000K to make picture bluish; select 6500K for a moderate color temperature. · Advanced: · Color: A lower setting produces less saturated colors. If the setting is too high, colors will be overpowering and may appear unrealistic. · Sharpness: Select different sharpness level. · Gamma: Gamma refers to the brightness level of the projector's grayscale levels. · Brilliantcolor: This feature utilizes a new color-processing algorithm and system level enhancements to enable higher brightness while providing truer, more vibrant colors in the projected picture. It enables a greater than 50% brightness increase in mid-tone images, which are common in video and natural scenes, so the projector reproduces images in realistic and true colors. If you prefer images with that quality, select a level that suits your need. · Color Management: Color management provides fine color control adjustment to allow for more accurate color reproduction. Select Primary Color first and adjust its range/values in Hue, Saturation and Gain. · Reset Color Settings: Reset the color settings to default. POWER MANAGEMENT settings You can view and change the following power management settings. · Auto Power On: · Signal: Select VGA allows the projector to turn on automatically once the signal is fed through the signal cable. · CEC: Turn HDMITM CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) on or off. The default value is Disable. · Direct Power On: Allow the projector to turn on automatically once power is fed through the power cord. · Smart Energy: 12 Philips · ProPix 650 · Auto Power Off: Allow the projector to turn off automatically after a set period of time once no input source is detected to prevent unnecessary waste of lamp life. Tip: Disabling Auto Power Off will increase energy consumption. · Sleep Timer: Select a period of time after which the projector turns off automatically. The default value is Disable. · Power Saving: Lower power consumption if no input source is detected. · Standby Settings: When VGA loop through is enabled, the projector outputs the signal received from Computer 1/Computer 2 in standby mode. · Quick Power Off: When this function is enabled, the projector will not enter the cooling process after being shut down. Tip: If you attempt to restart the projector right after it's been turned off, it may not be turned on successfully and will rerun its cooling procedure. · USB A Power: When this function is enabled, the USB Type A port can supply power. BASIC settings You can view and change the following basic settings. · Audio Settings: · Mute: Select On to temporarily turn off the projector's internal speaker or the volume being output from the audio output jack. · Audio Volume: Adjust the volume level of the projector's internal speaker or the volume being output from the audio output jack. · Power On/Off Ring Tone: Turn on/off the ring tone during the starting up and shutting down process. · Presentation Timer: Presentation timer can indicate the presentation time on the screen to help you achieve better time management when giving presentations. · Timer Period: Set the time period. If the timer is already on, the timer will restart whenever the Timer Period is reset. · Timer Display: Allow you to decide if you want the timer to show up on the screen. · Timer Position: Set the timer position. · Timer Counting Direction: Set your desired counting direction. · Sound Reminder: Allow you to decide if you want to activate a sound reminder. Once enabled, a double beep sound will be heard at the last 30 seconds of counting down/up, and a triple beep sound will be produced when the timer is up. · Start Counting/Off: Select Start Counting to activate the timer. Select Off to cancel it. · Pattern: This function helps you adjust the image size and focus, and checks for distortion in the projected image. <--check if this OSD item was added · Blank Timer: Allow the projector to return the image automatically after a period of time when there is no action taken on the blank screen. To display the blank screen, press on the projector or Blank on the remote control. Tip: Do not block the projection lens as this could cause the blocking object to become heated and deformed or even cause a fire. · Message: Set reminder messages On or Off. · Splash Screen: Select which logo screen will appear during projector start-up. ADVANCED settings You can view and change the following advanced settings. · 3D Settings: · 3D Sync: Select the input signal's 3D format when the input source is HDMI. · 3D Sync Invert: If you have problems with the left and right eye reversed when using 3D glasses, please adjust 3D Sync Invert from default Disable to Invert . · HDMI Settings: · HDMI Format: Select a suitable color space according to the color space setting of the output device connected. · HDMI Range: Select a suitable HDMI color range according to the color range setting of the output device connected. · Light Source Settings: · Light Source Mode: Select a light source mode. · Reset Light Source Hours: Reset the light source timer after new lamp is installed. · Light Source Information: Displays the number of hours the light source has been used. · Reset Settings: Reset the settings to default. 13 Philips · ProPix 650 SYSTEM settings You can view and change the following system settings. · Language: Select the display language for the projector. · Projector Position: Adjust the projection to the correct direction based on how the projector is installed. · Menu Settings: · Menu Display Time: Set the settings menu's display time. · Menu Position: Set the settings menu's position to Center, Top-Left, Top-Right, Bottom-Left or Bottom-Right. · High Altitude Mode: We recommend you use the High Altitude Mode when your environment is between 1,500 m to 3,000 m above sea level, and ambient temperature is between 0°C30°C. · Quick Auto Search: Allow the projector to automatically search for the signals. · Security Settings: · Change Password: Follow the on-screen instructions to change the password. · Power on Lock: Set a password after selecting On to help prevent unauthorized access or use. To disable the password function, select Off. Tip: If the password function is activated, you will be asked to enter the six-digit password every time you turn on the projector. If you enter the wrong password, the password error message will appear for 5 seconds, and the message `INPUT PASSWORD' follows. If you enter an incorrect password 5 times in succession, the projector will automatically shut down in a short time. · Panel Key Lock: Lock the control keys on the projector. · Baud Rate: Selects a baud rate that is identical with your computer's so that you can connect the projector using a suitable RS-232 cable and control the projector with RS-232 commands. · Firmware Version: Check firmware version of this product. · Game mode: Show whether the function is activated or not. · Serial Number: Check serial number of this product. INFORMATION You can view the following information. · Source: Show the current input source. · Color Mode: Show the selected mode in the IMAGE menu. · Resolution: Show the native resolution of the input source. · Color System: Show input system format. 14 Philips · ProPix 650 7 Maintenance Cleaning DANGER! Follow the following instructions when cleaning the projector: Use a soft, lint-free cloth. Never use liquid or easily flammable cleansers (sprays, abrasives, polishes, alcohol, etc.). Do not allow any moisture to reach the interior of the projector. Do not spray the projector with any cleaning fluids. Wipe over the surfaces gently. Be careful that you do not scratch the surfaces. Cleaning the lens Use a dry cloth for cleaning the lens of the projector. DANGER! Do not use any liquid cleaning agents! Do not use any liquid cleaning agents for cleaning the lens, to avoid damaging the coating film on the lens. 15 Philips · ProPix 650 8 Troubleshooting Power cycling If a problem occurs and you cannot resolve it using the instructions in this user manual, try the following steps to resolve the problem. 1 Turn the projector off by pressing . 2 Wait at least 10 seconds. 3 Turn the projector on by pressing . 4 If the problem persists, contact one of our customer service centres or your dealer. Problem Solution The projector cannot be turned on. · Disconnect and reconnect the power cable, and try to turn the projector on again. The projector cannot be turned off. · Press twice. If this does not work, disconnect the power cable. No image from the external HDMITM device. 1. Check if the correct HDMITM input is selected (HDMI). 2. Disconnect the HDMITM cable or switch off the HDMITM device. 3. Wait three seconds. 4. Reconnect the HDMITM cable or switch on the HDMITM device again. No sound from the external connected device. · Check the cables to the external device. · Check that the sound is activated on the external device. · Only the original cables from the device manufacturer may function. No sound from external HDMITM output device. · On the HDMITM output device, set the audio setting to Multichannel (Raw data) & Stereo (PCM). Black dots (dead pixels) appear on the screen. DMD displays from Texas Instruments typically contain a small number of pixels that do not function normally. Your display has been inspected and is in compliance with the manufacturer's specifications, meaning that any pixel defects will not affect the operation or use of your display.
