User Manual

Important Safety Information

Never, under any circumstances, look directly at the Sun, another bright source of light or at a laser through this device, as this may cause PERMANENT RETINAL DAMAGE and may lead to BLINDNESS. White LEDs are very bright; do not look at them as this may cause permanent damage to your vision.

Take necessary precautions when using the device with children or others who have not read or who do not fully understand these instructions.

Microscope Assembly

Follow these steps to assemble the microscope:

  1. Remove the microscope and all accessories from the package.
  2. Place the stage on a stable surface.
  3. Attach the mount locking ring (6) to the metal tube of the mount.
  4. Insert the metal tube into the opening on the stage and lock it in place with the ring (6).
  5. Insert the microscope into the clamp on the mount arm and tighten the locking screw (5).
  6. Tighten the locking knob (4) to lock the mount arm in place.
  7. Place a specimen on the stage.
  8. Use the coarse focus knob (1) to focus your view.
  9. Use the fine focus knob (3) for maximum precision and sharpness.
  10. Upon focusing your view, tighten the focus lock knob (2) to lock the results.

MicroCapture Pro Software

To use the software:

  1. Insert the installation CD into your CD drive. The Main Menu window will be displayed.
  2. Click "Install MicroCapture Pro" to install the application and follow the on-screen instructions.
  3. The installation CD also contains a copy of this User Guide.
  4. Connect the microscope to your PC with a USB cable.
  5. Run the MicroCapture Pro application. A pop-up message will warn you if the microscope is not connected to the PC.

Calibration

Calibrating the microscope ensures accurate measurements.

  1. Turn the grid display on via Options > Crossing.
  2. Place the calibration scale on the stage and focus the view.
  3. Ensure the vertical axis of the grid is parallel to the scale divisions.
  4. Capture an image. Double-click the thumbnail to open it in a separate window.
  5. Click the calibration icon on the toolbar to begin.
  6. Choose two points on the image with known distance between them.
  7. Enter the known distance in the "Actual dimension" field in the dialog window.
  8. The application will calculate the magnification. Click OK.

Note: Chosen points should form a horizontal line.

Calibration results can be checked using the "Any Angle Line" tool.

Recalibration

Recalibration is necessary if magnification or focus changes.

  1. Click the calibration icon and select "Reset picture magnification".
  2. Repeat the calibration process.
  3. Change magnification and capture images.
  4. Open an image thumbnail and click the calibration icon.
  5. Select "Set picture magnification" and enter the current magnification. Click OK.
  6. To use the same magnification for future captures, select "Set capture magnification".

Calibrate the system before taking measurements.

Draw and Text

Add drawings and textboxes to your images using the MicroCapture Pro software.

Working with the Application for Mac OS Users

For Mac OS users:

  1. Copy the "MicroCapture Pro" file from the installation CD's "mac" folder to your desktop.
  2. Connect the microscope via USB cable.
  3. Run the MicroCapture Pro application by double-clicking its icon.
  4. The main window displays a magnified image.
  5. Use the "Options" menu to select "Preview Size" for image resolution (standard 640x480).
  6. Use "Options" > "Date/Time" to show or hide capture date and time.
  7. Capture images by clicking the Photo icon or selecting "Photo" from the Capture menu.
  8. Record videos by clicking the Video icon or selecting "Video" from the Capture menu.

Note: The camcorder icon turns red during recording. Click it again to stop.

All Levenhuk optical products (telescopes, microscopes, binoculars), except for accessories, carry a lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.

Levenhuk accessories are warranted for six months from the date of retail purchase.

Levenhuk will repair or replace defective products or parts. Proof of purchase is required.

This warranty does not cover consumable parts such as bulbs or batteries.
