- Power on: Plug your extender into a power outlet near your Router/AP. Wait until the Power LED goes from blinking to solid on.
- Push the two WPS buttons: Press the WPS button on your Router/AP, then press the WPS button on your extender. The WPS LED on the extender will start blinking. Wait until the WPS LED turns solid on, indicating a successful connection.
Method TWO: Quick Setup using Web Browser
This method is for routers that do not support WPS or if you are unsure.
- Power on: Plug your extender into a power outlet near your Router/AP. Wait until the Power LED goes from blinking to solid on.
- Connect your computer to the TL-WA860RE:
- For Windows Users: Unplug the Ethernet cable from your computer (if any). Click the Wireless Network Connection icon on your taskbar, refresh the list, and connect to the extender's network (e.g., TP-LINK_Extender_XXXXXX).
- For Mac OS X Users: Unplug the Ethernet cable from your Mac (if any). Click the Wi-Fi icon in the top right corner of the screen and connect to the extender's network (e.g., TP-LINK_Extender_XXXXXX).
- Configure:

- Create a new username and password for secure management and click Confirm.
- Select your router's 2.4GHz Network (SSID), enter its wireless password, and click Next.
- Either keep the default SSID or customize it for the extended 2.4GHz network, then click Next.
- Verify your wireless settings and click Save.
Relocate
Plug in the extender halfway between your router and the Wi-Fi dead zone. Wait about 1 minute for the LED to turn green. If it doesn't turn green, relocate it closer to the router to achieve better signal quality.
