Precautions for Using the Flash Development Toolkit

Please pay attention to the following points when using the Flash Development Toolkit.

1. User Registration

Please refer to SupportInfo_j.txt attached to the CD-R for user registration.

2. Handling Communication Timeout

(1) For low-spec PCs or when background programs are running:

Communication timeouts may occur in the following cases:

In these cases, please try lowering the baud rate.

(2) When "Error No 15068: Receive data timeout" occurs during automatic writing:

Please try lowering the baud rate.

3. Selecting 1200bps Baud Rate

The 1200bps baud rate is selectable only for the following devices. Do not select 1200bps for other devices.

(1) H8

38002F, 38004F, 38024F, 38102F, 38104F, 38124F, 38324F, 38327F, 38344F, 38347F, 38424F, 38427F, 38444F, 38447F, 38522F, 38524F, 38534F, 38537F, 38702F, 38704F

4. Frequency Setting for H8S/2172F Devices

The operating frequency of H8S/2172F devices is doubled by the PLL circuit. However, the doubling condition cannot be selected in FDT. Therefore, please set the input frequency condition in FDT to the value that is doubled by the PLL circuit.

5. Access Right Password

If you enable access rights, please do not forget the set password.

6. Readback Verify

If writing to Flash is not performed correctly due to electrostatic discharge, a verify error may occur. In this case, FDT may terminate abnormally.

7. Auto Update Tool

When downloading the update program, the "Destination" information is displayed on the wizard. This is the directory information of the program already installed. The installation destination for the program to be updated can be specified after the installer starts.

8. Blank Check for R8C/2x Devices

(1) WS Version Devices

WS version devices do not support the blank check function. If you attempt to execute this function, "Device is not blank" will always be displayed.

(2) Mass Production Version Devices

If "0" is written to bit0 of the OFS register (address 0FFFFh), communication will be lost after executing the blank check function. Please use the blank check function when "1" is written to bit0 of the OFS register.

9. M16C/30P One-Time Flash Device Protection Option

If "Automatic" or "Interactive" is selected, the operation will be the same as when "None" is selected.

10. R32C Device CRC Verify

When writing to a device that is not blank, a CRC verify error may occur. In this case, please use the readback verify function to confirm if the write was successful.

11. Windows® XP/Windows Vista®

This application does not support 64-bit Editions.

12. R8C/3x,Lx,Mx Series Communication Speed

Communication at 125kbps is not possible when connected via E8a.

13. Clock Input for RS-232C Connection

When connected via RS-232C, some devices only support external clocks. In this case, do not use the internal clock; use the external clock.

[Target Devices]

M16C (Group names): 56, 56D, 57, 5L, 5LD, 5M, 63, 64A, 64C, 65, 65B, 65C, 6B, 6C

14. USB Driver Installation

If the USB drivers supported by this application (V.4.04 and later) are not recognized, please install the drivers using the following procedure. (For Windows® XP, only (1) is necessary)

(1) Double-click "dpinst.exe" in the installation directory to execute the USB driver. (dpinst.exe is a driver package installation utility provided by Microsoft.)

(a) For writing via E8a emulator:

(b) For writing via E1/E20/E8 emulator:

(c) For other cases:

Note: The above are examples of default installation directories.

(2) If the [User Account Control] dialog box appears with the message "An unrecognized program wants to access your computer. If you do not know the source of the program or have not used it before, do not run it," click [Allow].

(3) Click [Next] on the [Device Driver Installation Wizard].

(4) If prompted "Do you want to install this device software?", click [Install].

(5) Click [Finish] on the [Device Driver Installation Wizard].

15. Multiple E1/E20 Connections

The following restrictions apply when multiple E1 or E20 units are connected to a single PC.

If the USB cable of E1 or E20 is unplugged or plugged, or if the power is turned ON/OFF (for E20 only) during communication, the Flash Development Toolkit may result in a communication error or abnormal termination.

16. M16C Device Single-Wire Connection

For devices that support single-wire connection, please refer to the following technical updates:

(1) M16C/63, 6C Group: TN-16C-A186A/J

(2) M16C/65, 64A Group: TN-16C-A188A/J

17. R8C Device 1.8V Writing

This application supports 1.8V writing via E8a for some R8C devices. Please pay attention to the following points when supplying user power.

(1) When supplying voltage between 1.8V and less than 2.7V:

(2) When supplying voltage between 2.7V and 5.5V:

18. User Boot Area Operation for RX610 Group

When connected via "Generic Boot Device", if the ID code protection is disabled, operations on the User Boot Area will become invalid after the connection is established. To enable User Boot Area operations, connect to the device with ID code protection enabled when connecting via "Generic Boot Device".

19. User Boot Area Erase Permission

The default setting for this option is "No". In this case, the User Boot Area will not be erased even if "Automatic" is selected in the write options. If you want to erase before writing, please change the setting for this option to "Yes".

20. Post-Installation Dialog Message

On Windows Vista® and Windows® 7, you may see a message stating "This program may not have been installed correctly" after the application installation is complete. If no errors occurred during the installer process, the installation is complete. Please select "This program was installed correctly."

21. Index Update for Identification Number Data

In Simple Interface Mode, if all of the following conditions (1) to (4) are met, the index for the identification number data will be updated by +2 after writing.
