Introduction
If you are a Windows user, please find the appropriate keycaps in the box, then follow the instructions below to find and replace the following keycaps:
- Locate the Windows keycap and the Alt keycaps in the accessory box.
- Carefully remove the existing Mac-specific keycaps (e.g., Command, Option) from the keyboard.
- Install the Windows keycap in the position of the Command key and the Alt keycaps in the positions of the Option keys.
1. Connect 2.4GHz Receiver
Connect the 2.4GHz receiver to your device's USB port. Ensure the keyboard's toggle switch is set to 2.4GHz mode (indicated by 'G').
Keyboard Toggle Switch: Set to 'G/Cable/BT' and select 'G' for 2.4GHz mode.
Note: For the best wireless experience, Keychron recommends using the extension adapter for the receiver and placing the 2.4GHz receiver close to the keyboard to minimize latency and signal interference.
2. Connect Bluetooth
Ensure the keyboard's toggle switch is set to Bluetooth mode (indicated by 'BT').
Keyboard Toggle Switch: Set to 'G/Cable/BT' and select 'BT' for Bluetooth mode.
To pair with a device named Keychron K13 Max, press the fn
+ 1
keys simultaneously for 4 seconds until the keyboard enters pairing mode.
3. Connect Cable
Connect the keyboard to your device using the provided Type-C cable. Ensure the keyboard's toggle switch is set to Cable mode.
Keyboard Toggle Switch: Set to 'G/Cable/BT' and select 'Cable' for wired mode.
4. Switch To The Right System
Ensure the system toggle on the top left corner of the keyboard is switched to match your computer's operating system (Mac or Windows).
System Toggle Switch: Located on the top left, switch between 'Mac' and 'Win'.
5. The Layers
The keyboard features four layers of key settings:
- Layer 0 and Layer 1: For the Mac system.
- Layer 2 and Layer 3: For the Windows system.
If your system toggle is switched to Mac, Layer 0 will be activated. If switched to Windows, Layer 2 will be activated. When using Windows mode, make changes to Layer 2 instead of Layer 0 to avoid common mistakes.
6. The VIA Key Remapping Software
To remap keys, visit the online VIA software at usevia.app.
- If VIA does not recognize your keyboard, contact Keychron support for instructions.
- The online VIA software currently runs only on the latest versions of Chrome, Edge, and Opera browsers.
- VIA functionality requires the keyboard to be connected by wire to the computer.
7. The Backlight
To change the lighting effect, press fn
+ Q
.
To turn the backlight on/off, press fn
+ tab
.
8. Adjust The Backlight Brightness
To increase backlight brightness, press fn
+ W
.
To decrease backlight brightness, press fn
+ S
.
9. Warranty
The Keychron keyboard is highly customizable and designed for easy rebuilding. If any keyboard components are defective during the warranty period, Keychron will replace the defective parts, not the entire keyboard.

10. Factory Reset
If you are experiencing issues with your keyboard, follow these steps for a factory reset:
- Download the correct firmware and QMK Toolbox from the Keychron website.
- Unplug the power cable and switch the keyboard to Cable mode.
- Remove the space bar keycap to locate the reset button on the PCB.
- Hold down the reset key, then plug the power cable into the keyboard.
- Release the reset key after 2 seconds; the keyboard will now enter DFU mode.
- Flash the firmware using the QMK Toolbox.
- Factory reset the keyboard by pressing
fn
+J
+Z
simultaneously for 4 seconds.
