With proper installation, operation, and care, your new shadings will provide years of beauty and performance. Please thoroughly review this instruction booklet before beginning the installation. If your shading has a protective plastic cover on the fabric-covered headrail, keep the plastic in place until the shading is installed. IMPORTANT: An orange shipping clip is installed in the headrail for the UltraGlide® shading. Please do not remove the clip until instructed to do so. Tools and Fasteners Needed 1/4" hex and flat blade screwdrivers Level (laser level is recommended) Measuring tape and pencil Pliers Power drill, 3/32" drill bit, and 1/4" hex driver Scissors (heavy-duty) In addition, you will need fasteners designed to work with your specific mounting surface(s). #6 Hex Head Screws (Provided). Two 11/2" screws are provided per installation bracket. Longer #6 Hex Head Screws (Not Provided). If using spacer blocks, use #6 screws long enough for a secure attachment. Speed Nuts and Screws (Provided). Extension brackets come with screws and speed nuts. Drywall Anchors (Not Provided). Use drywall anchors when mounting into drywall. #6 x 11/2" Hex Head Screw (Provided) Longer #6 Hex Head Screw for Use with Spacer Blocks (Not Provided) Speed Nut and Screw (Provided with Each Extension Bracket) 2 INSTALLATION Importance of Limit Stops on Silhouette Window Shadings Limit stops serve as the upper travel limit for the bottom rail, preventing it from rotating around the fabric roll. Limit stops are located 6" from the ends of the headrail or are centered on shadings less than 36" wide. When a shading is made, the limit stops are adjusted according to the size of the fabric roll. Occasionally, this adjustment changes during shipping or installation. If this happens, problems can be fixed by readjusting the limit stops. See page 32 in the Troubleshooting section if shading operation is difficult or if the bottom rail rotates around the fabric roll. Shown below are the four possible positions of limit stops for large to small fabric rolls. Large Fabric Roll Small Fabric Roll Installation Overview To install your shading, you will need to perform the following four steps: STEP 1: Mount the Installation Brackets STEP 2: PowerView® and SoftTouch® Only: Mount the Battery Wand, If Applicable STEP 3: Install the Shading STEP 4: PowerView and SoftTouch Only: Connect the Power Source, If Applicable STEP 1: Mount the Installation Brackets The number of installation brackets required varies with shading width, as shown in the table. Width 14" 48" 481/8" 96" Installation Bracket 961/8" 120" Brackets Required 2 3 4 3 INSTALLATION Mounting Types and Window Terminology If the installation brackets are mounted correctly, the rest of the installation process follows easily. To prepare for this important first step, review the mounting types and basic window terminology illustrated below. Molding Head Jamb Jamb Jamb Collectively, the sill and jambs are called the "window casement." Sill Inside Mount Shading fits within window opening. Outside Mount Shading mounts outside window opening. Refer to the appropriate page below based on your order: Inside Mount -- Below Outside Mount -- Page 6 Mount the Installation Brackets -- Inside Mount Prepare the Installation Brackets If using the optional back cover: NOTE: If you have a battery wand, do not remove the top tab on the back cover bracket. The top tab ensures that there is clearance for the battery wand. If you have a satellite battery pack or an 18V DC Power Supply, remove the top tab on the back cover bracket. Snap the back cover bracket into the metal installation bracket. If not using the optional back cover: If you have a battery wand, remove the bottom tab from the back cover bracket. Snap the back cover bracket into the metal installation bracket. This ensures adequate space for the battery wand. If you have a satellite battery pack or an 18V DC Power Supply, it is not necessary to use the back cover bracket. 4 Back Cover Bracket Top Tab Bottom Tab Back Cover Slots Remove top tab if using a satellite battery pack or an 18V DC Power Supply. Remove bottom tab if using a battery wand and no back cover. INSTALLATION Mount the Installation Brackets Mark 2" from each jamb for bracket location. If more than two installation brackets came with your order, space additional bracket(s) between the two end brackets and mark their location. Mount into wood whenever possible. For PowerView® or SoftTouch® shadings with battery wand, allow a minimum of 18" between bracket centerlines for the battery wand/rechargeable battery wand. NOTE: Before the headrail is installed, the bracket levers need to be fully to the left. Once the headrail is properly in place, the levers automatically click to the right. 2" Space Evenly Space Evenly Motor 2" Side Jamb 18" Minimum for Battery Wand/ Rechargeable Battery Wand Jamb Review the minimum depth requirements in the table below. Allow sufficient rear clearance when positioning the brackets. With no back cover, the bottom tab provides the necessary clearance (1/4") for all systems except PowerView and SoftTouch with a battery wand/rechargeable battery wand, which requires 7/8" rear clearance. (Rear clearance is the distance between the back of the installation bracket and the glass or frame.) Add an extra 1/4" of rear clearance if the optional back cover is used. IMPORTANT: The back cover is not available with the rechargeable battery wand. Use a level to check that the mounting surface is level. Shim (not provided) the brackets, if necessary. Use a 3/32" drill bit to drill holes for the mounting screws. CAUTION: Use drywall anchors when mounting into drywall. 5 INSTALLATION Attach the installation brackets using the screws provided. Lever NOTE: Do not overtighten the screws. Check to ensure the lever can be moved easily side to side. If the lever is not moving easily, loosen the screws in one-eighth turn increments until it can be moved easily. IMPORTANT: The front edges of the installation brackets must be level and aligned to each other. UltraGlide® Shading: Proceed to "STEP 3: Install the Shading" on page 10. PowerView® and SoftTouch® Shadings: Proceed to "STEP 2: Mount the Battery Wand, If Applicable" on page 8. Mount the Installation Brackets -- Outside Mount Center the headrail over the window opening at the desired height. Use a pencil to lightly mark each end of the headrail. Alternatively, measure the width of the headrail and use that width to mark the headrail end points over the window opening. Mark 2" from each of the headrail end marks for bracket location. If more than two installation brackets came with your order, space additional bracket(s) between the two end brackets and mark their location. Mount into wood whenever possible. For PowerView and SoftTouch shadings with battery wand, allow a minimum of 18" between bracket centerlines for the battery wand/rechargeable battery wand. 2" Headrail End Mark Window Opening 2" Headrail End Mark Center the installation brackets on your marks and mark the location of the screw holes. A minimum 1" flat vertical height is required to mount the installation brackets. Position the top of the installation brackets at the desired height of the shading. The brackets must be level and aligned. CAUTION: The rear of the blocks/brackets must be flush against a flat mounting surface. Do not mount brackets on curved molding. IMPORTANT: Additional clearance is required for PowerView and SoftTouch shadings with a headrail-mounted battery wand or rechargeable battery wand. See "Additional Clearance with Spacer Blocks" on page 7. 6 INSTALLATION Use a 3/32" drill bit to drill holes for the mounting screws. CAUTION: Use drywall anchors when mounting into drywall. If no additional clearance is required, attach the installation brackets directly to the mounting surface using the screws provided. IMPORTANT: The front edges of the installation brackets must be level and aligned to each other. WARNING: Failure to properly align the brackets could result in the headrail releasing from the brackets. Additional Clearance with Spacer Blocks NOTE: A minimum of 3/4" additional clearance is required for PowerView® and SoftTouch® shadings with a battery wand/rechargeable battery wand. If using 1/4" or 1/2" spacer blocks, attach the spacer block(s) and installation bracket to a flat vertical mounting surface with #6 screws long enough for a secure installation. IMPORTANT: The solid side of the spacer blocks must face toward the mounting surface. Spacer Blocks Longer Screws 11/2" Maximum Added Clearance Additional Clearance with Extension Brackets If using extension brackets, attach each extension bracket to the mounting surface using the screws provided. Attach an installation bracket to the underside of each extension bracket using the provided screws and speed nuts. Speed Nut Extension Bracket NOTE: The maximum amount of added clearance using extension brackets is 3". Screw UltraGlide® Shading: Proceed to "STEP 3: Install the Shading" on page 10. PowerView and SoftTouch Shadings: Proceed to "STEP 2: Mount the Battery Wand, If Applicable" on page 8. 7 INSTALLATION STEP 2: PowerView® and SoftTouch® Only: Mount the Battery Wand, If Applicable For the headrail-mounted battery wand and rechargeable battery wand, battery wand clips and battery wand/rechargeable battery mount are installed before the shading is installed. Any other power options, the power source will be connected after the shading is installed. Battery Wand Install the Battery Wand Clips Attach the battery wand clips to the headrail. IMPORTANT: Position the clips close to the power cable. Mount the Battery Wand into the Battery Wand Clips Position the battery wand with its socket toward the motor end of the shading. Push the battery wand straight up into the battery wand clips until it snaps into place. Check to make sure the battery wand is secure. CAUTION: Be sure the cables do not become pinched by the battery wand clips during installation. Damage or overheating of components could result. Place the socket toward the motor end. Plug the Power Cable into the Battery Wand NOTE: When power is connected to the motor, a green LED inside the programming button housing will flash to indicate the shading is ready for operation. From the back of the shading headrail, connect the power cable (from the motor side) into the socket on the battery wand. Power Cable Battery Wand Proceed to "STEP 3: Install the Shading" on page 10. 8 INSTALLATION Headrail-Mounted Rechargeable Battery Wand Install the Rechargeable Battery Wand Clips Attach the battery wand clips to the headrail. Hook the battery wand clip onto the back channel of the headrail. IMPORTANT: Position the clip so that the battery wand will be between installation brackets. Rechargeable Battery Wand Clip Front of Headrail Install the Rechargeable Battery Mount into the Battery Wand Clips From the back of the shading headrail, connect the power cable from the motor side into the socket on the rechargeable battery mount. Align the slots in the battery mount with the battery wand clips. Push the battery mount onto the battery wand clips until it snaps into place. Check to make sure the battery mount is secure. CAUTION: Be sure the cable does not become pinched by the battery wand clips during installation. Damage or overheating of components could result. NOTE: Do not install the rechargeable battery wand into the battery mount before installing the shading. See "STEP 4: Connect the Power Source -- Headrail-Mounted Rechargeable Battery Wand" on page 13 for instructions on inserting the battery wand into the battery mount. Rechargeable Battery Wand Clips Power Cable Rechargeable Battery Wand Mount 9 INSTALLATION STEP 3: Install the Shading Install the Optional Back Cover (If Applicable) The optional back cover is used on inside mounts only. Install the back cover into the back cover brackets on the rear of the installation brackets, as shown. If necessary, trim the back cover to the desired width. For PowerView® and SoftTouchTM Only: On shadings with battery wand(s), the top of the back cover fits onto the top tab of the back cover bracket. IMPORTANT: If using a battery wand, do not install the optional back cover until the wand is installed. Refer to "STEP 2: Mount the Battery Wand, If Applicable" on page 8. IMPORTANT: The back cover is not available with the rechargeable battery wand. On all other shadings, the top tab has been removed and installs closer to the installation bracket. Shading with Battery Wand All Other Shadings Back Cover Back Cover Mount the Headrail Peel back the protective covering from the top of the Palette® fabric-covered headrail. Leave the rest of the protective covering on the front of the headrail. Position the shading so that the front faces you. Slide the headrail into the installation brackets so the edge of the headrail is between the lever and the bracket, as shown. Firmly push the headrail into each Lever Headrail bracket until it clicks and the lever snaps to the right side of the bracket. Installation Bracket IMPORTANT: Carefully pull on the headrail at each bracket to ensure it is installed securely. Slide the Headrail Between the Lever and the Bracket Completely remove the protective covering from the Palette fabric-covered headrail. 10 INSTALLATION Attach the Dust Cover (Optional for Outside Mounts) The dust cover can be used with outside mounts to protect the top of the headrail from exposure. Cut the dust cover to desired width. Remove the paper backing on one side of the hook and loop fastener dots. Apply the dots to the installation brackets on each end of the shading. Overhead View No Dust Cover Remove Paper Backing Dots Remove the remaining paper backing from the dots. Center the dust cover over the top of the shading, above the dots, and press the dust cover down onto the dots. Dust Cover Installed STEP 4: PowerView® and SoftTouch® Only: Connect the Power Source, If Applicable If you have attached the battery wand in step 2, proceed to "SoftTouch® Only -- Unpack the Wand and Attach to Activation Arm" on page 17 or "Operate the Shading" on page 18. NOTE: When power is connected to the motor, a green LED inside the programming button housing (PowerView shading), inside the control side end cap (SoftTouch shading) will flash to indicate the shading is ready for operation. Refer to the appropriate page based on your order. For an optional satellite battery pack, see page 12. For an optional headrail-mounted rechargeable battery wand, see page 13. For an optional satellite-mounted rechargeable battery wand, see page 14. For an optional 18V DC Power Supply, see page 16. For any other Hunter Douglas power options, see the instructions that came with the unit. 11 INSTALLATION Satellite Battery Pack Mount the Satellite Battery Pack Decide where you want to attach the wall mount bracket for the satellite battery pack. It may be installed in any orientation. Mark the screw holes and drill them using a 3/32" drill bit. Wall Mount Bracket Remove the backing from the double-sided tape on the wall mount bracket. Press the bracket into place. Attach the brackets using the screws provided. Position the battery wand so the power cable can easily be connected to the socket and snap the wand into the bracket. Socket Install the cover with the slot aligned to the socket in the battery wand. Slot Socket Battery Wand Cover Plug the power cable from the shading into an extension cable. Plug the other end of the extension cable into the socket in the battery wand. Power Cable from Shading Battery Wand Cover Extension Cable SoftTouch® Shading: Proceed to "SoftTouch Only -- Unpack the Wand and Attach to Activation Arm"on page 17. Powerview® Shadings: Proceed to "Operate the Shading" on page 18. 12 INSTALLATION Headrail-Mounted Rechargeable Battery Wand Insert the Rechargeable Battery Wand into the Battery Mount NOTE: The rechargeable battery wand ships fully charged, so it is ready to install out of the package. Match the direction of the arrow on the underside of the battery wand with the arrow on the battery mount. Insert the nose of the battery wand into the cavity of the battery mount. Push the battery wand flush into the mount until the battery snaps into place. CAUTION: Failing to insert wand properly may cause it to fall out of the mount, posing an injury risk and potentially damaging the wand. Additionally, when mounting on a door, closing the door with excess force may cause battery wand to dislodge from the mount, also posing an injury risk and possibly damaging the wand. SoftTouch® Shading: Proceed to "SoftTouch Only -- Unpack the Wand and Attach to Activation Arm"on page 17. Powerview® Shadings: Proceed to "Operate the Shading" on page 18. Satellite-Mounted Rechargeable Battery Wand Install the Rechargeable Battery Mount Decide where you want to install the rechargeable battery mount. This may be mounted behind the headrail, or in any desired location near the window covering.A satellite battery mount may be installed in any orientation. Make sure the provided cable is long enough to connect the satellite battery mount and the shading. 15" Minimum Mounting Length 13" 2" Power Socket End Allow 2" at power socket end for the extension cable jack. Minimum flat mounting area = 15" x 11/4" 1" CAUTION: The rear of the battery mount must be flush against a flat mounting surface. Do not install on a curved molding. 13 INSTALLATION Mark the screw holes. Drill the screw holes using a 3/32" drill bit. Attach the battery mount using the screws provided. CAUTION: Only use the screws provided with the battery mount, designed so that the screws will install flush with the mount. Protrusion of the screws could result in either the battery wand not attaching properly causing a failure to connect, or the wand falling out of the mount. Do not over-tighten. Connect the power cable from the motor side into the power socket on the rechargeable battery mount. NOTE: With longer cables, wire retainers (not supplied) are recommended to secure the cable. Battery Mount Power Cable from Shading Extension Cable (If Needed) Install the Battery Wand into the Battery Mount NOTE: The rechargeable battery wand ships fully charged, so it is ready to install out of the package. Match the direction of the arrow on the underside of the battery wand with the arrow on the battery mount. Insert the nose of the battery wand into the cavity of the battery mount. Push the battery wand flush into the mount until the battery snaps into place. CAUTION: Failing to insert wand properly may cause it to fall out of the mount, posing an injury risk and potentially damaging the wand. Additionally, when mounting on a door, closing the door with excess force may cause battery wand to dislodge from the mount, also posing an injury risk and possibly damaging the wand. SoftTouch® Shading: Proceed to "SoftTouch Only -- Unpack the Wand and Attach to Activation Arm"on page 17. Powerview® Shadings: Proceed to "Operate the Shading" on page 18. 14 INSTALLATION 18V DC Power Supply Connect the Power Supply Plug the power cable from the shading into the extension cable. Plug the other end of the extension cable into the 18V DC Power Supply. Plug the 18V DC Power Supply into a standard wall outlet. The power supply may be oriented with the cable at the top or bottom. Power Cable from Shading 15" Maximum Wire Retainers Secure the extension cable using wire retainers (not supplied). If hiding the cable behind the shading, make sure it does not impede the operation of the shading. Extension Cable Space the wire retainers approximately 15" apart along the extension cable, as shown at far right. WARNING: Keep cords and small parts out of the reach of children. They can wrap cords around their necks and STRANGLE. They can also put small parts in their mouths and CHOKE. 18V DC Power Supply WARNING: Electric shock and/or a fire hazard may occur if the 18V DC Power Supply and cables are not properly installed. Proceed to "Operate the Shading" on page 18. 15 INSTALLATION UltraGlide® Only -- Attach the Wand The wand must be securely attached to the shading for proper operation. Remove the orange shipping clip. Grab the edge of the shipping clip and pull straight down. Remove the wand from its packaging. Gently pull out the bumper and threaded connector until it is visible. Slide the bumper away from the threaded connection. CAUTION: Do not grip the bumper on top of the connector and attempt to screw on the wand at this point. Secure attachment of the wand cannot be guaranteed if tightened by hand. Hold the threaded connector with a 5/16 (8mm) open end wrench, and screw the hollow end of the wand onto the threaded connector, as shown. If necessary, pliers can be used instead of a wrench. Continue to firmly rotate the wand until you feel it click two times and the wand stops moving. This ensures the wand is securely attached. CAUTION: If the wand is not properly secured, it will come loose after repeated use. Bumper Connector 16 Slide the bumper back onto the threaded connector. Make sure the bumper is properly aligned and seated tightly on top of the threaded connector. NOTE: The underside of the bumper matches the shape on the top of the threaded connector. Gently release the wand. INSTALLATION Aligned SoftTouch® Only -- Unpack the Wand and Attach to Activation Arm Attach the top of the wand (magnet side) to the activation arm. Activation Arm Magnet 17 OPERATION Operate the Shading A single control is used to operate both the front window shading and the rear roller shade. Operation is sequential. The front shading must be lowered and the vanes opened before the rear roller shade can be lowered. Conversely, the rear roller shade must be raised before the vanes on the front shading can be closed and the front shading raised. CAUTION: When raising the front shading or rear shade for the first time, observe how the fabric rolls up into the headrail. It should roll up evenly. If the bottom rail is not level or the fabric starts to rub against either window jamb, immediately stop the front or back shade from operating. See "Adjust the Bottom Rail Weight of the Front Shading" on page 31. For operation instructions, refer to the appropriate page based on your operating system. For the UltraGlide® system, see page 19. For the SoftTouch® Motorization system, see page 20. For the PowerView® Automation system, see page 22. Shown below are a few examples of possible front shading and rear shade positions. Front shading lowered with vanes open, rear roller shade raised. Vanes may only be operated in this position. Front shading lowered with vanes Front shading lowered with vanes open, rear roller shade partly raised. open, rear roller shade lowered. Vanes must remain open. Vanes must remain open. 18 UltraGlide® Shadings OPERATION To Lower the Shading Pull the wand straight out from the fabric at an angle greater than 25 degrees. The clutch will click and the fabric will proceed with a controlled descent. To stop the shading in any position, simply pull the wand straight down. IMPORTANT: Avoid pulling the wand in the non-operable zone. This is the area between the angle for lowering the shading and the straight down position for raising the shading. Refer to the illustration below. To Open the Vanes After lowering the shading completely, continue to pull on the wand at an angle greater than 25 degrees, until the vanes are fully open. To Close the Vanes and Raise the Shading Hold the wand close to the fabric and pull straight down. Pump the wand down using short strokes to gradually raise the shading. CAUTION: To avoid damage to the shading or personal injury, do not release the wand until it is fully retracted. To avoid breaking the wand, do not use long strokes (over 42") or apply excessive force on the wand while pulling it. To Lower Shading To Open Vanes To Close Vanes and Raise Shading NonOperable Zone 19 OPERATION SoftTouch® Motorization Each push up and release of the wand, or pull down and release of the wand, will initiate one of three shading movements, in sequential order. See Basic Operation below. Basic Operation To Open the Shading Push the wand up and release, to sequentially move the front shading/vanes/back panel in the up/open direction. With the shading in the fully lowered position, vanes fully open, and the rear shade fully lowered: 1. Push up and release. The rear shade moves to the fully raised position. 2. Push up and release. The vanes close. 3. Push up and release. The front shading moves to the fully raised position. Close Vanes Raise Shadings To Close the Shading Pull the wand down and release, to sequentially move the front shading/vanes/rear shade in the down/closed direction. With the shading in the fully raised position: 1. Pull down and release. The front shading moves to the fully lowered position with vanes closed. 2. Pull down and release. The vanes open. 3. Pull down and release. The rear shade moves to the fully lowered position. Lower Shading Open Vanes To Operate the Vanes NOTE: The front shading must be fully lowered and the rear shade fully raised. To move the vanes to the fully open position, pull the wand down and release. To move the vanes to the fully closed position, push the wand up and release. To Operate the Rear Shade NOTE: The front shading must be fully lowered and the vanes fully open. To lower the rear shade, pull the wand down and release. To raise the rear shade, push the wand up and release. To Stop the Shading While the shading is in motion, pull down (or push up) the wand and release to stop shading or vane movement anywhere along its travel. 20 OPERATION Express Mode Activating Express Mode will send the shading to the vanes fully open position or shading fully open position, bypassing the vanes fully closed position. Got to Vanes Fully Open Position With the shading stationary, pull and hold the wand down. The shading will begin to move. The shading will pause momentarily and then continue to move. Release the Wand. The Shading will move to the vanes fully open position. Go to Shading Fully Open Position With the shading stationary, push and hold the wand up. The shading will begin to move. The shading will pause momentarily and then continue to move. Release the wand. The shading will move to the shading fully open position. Set and Go to a Favorite Position NOTE: The default favorite position is the rear shade fully raised and the front shading at 50% open with the vanes closed. Set a Favorite With the rear shade fully raised and the front shading vanes closed: Put the shading in motion. With the shading still in motion, as it reaches the desired Favorite position, push the wand up (or pull the wand down) and hold for approximately 4 seconds. The shading will beep and the front shading moves slightly twice (down, up) to indicate a new Favorite position is set. Go to Favorite With the shading stationary, or moving -- in a single motion, quickly push the wand up and pull the wand down and release. The shading will move to the Favorite position. NOTE: Quickly pulling the wand down and pushing the wand up will also work. 21 OPERATION PowerView® Automation Test the Shading Use the programming button to test the shade and ensure that the motor and power source are working correctly. Each press of the programming button will initiate one of six shade movements, in sequential order. With the shading in the fully raised position, press and release the programming button. The front shading moves to the fully lowered position with vanes closed. If the shading does not operate, see "Troubleshooting" on page 26. Press and release the programming button a second time. The vanes open. Press and release the programming button a third time. The rear shade moves to the fully lowered position. Press and release the programming button a fourth time. The rear shade moves to the fully raised position. Press and release the programming button a fifth time. The vanes close. Press and release the programming button a sixth time. The front shading moves to the fully raised position. Using the PowerView Remote Refer to the illustration below to familiarize yourself with the controls on the remote. Activate the remote by pulling both plastic tabs from the back battery compartment. IMPORTANT: If you have more than one remote, see "Adding Additional Remote(s) to the PowerView® Shade Network" in the PowerView Automation Remote Control Guide. OPEN (Raises rear shade, closes vanes, and raises front shading) Group 2 Group 1 LEFT ARROW (Raises rear shade, lowers front shading, and closes vanes) Group 3 CLOSE (Lowers front shading, opens vanes, and lowers rear shade) Group 4 Group 5 Group 6 RIGHT ARROW (Raises rear shade, lowers front shading, and opens vanes) Favorite (Set to a front shading's position; vanes closed, rear shade fully raised) STOP (All shade movement stops) (Press and hold for programming mode) 22 OPERATION Joining a Shading to a Group IMPORTANT: The shading will not operate using the remote until it has been joined to a group. 1. Press and hold STOP on the remote until the indicator lights blink (approximately 6 seconds). The remote is now in program mode. 2. Press the desired group number (1 6) on the remote. The backlit group number will flash to show it is selected. 3. While pressing the programming button on the shading, press OPEN on the remote. The green light flashes once and either the front shading or rear shade will move slightly twice (up, down, or down, up) to indicate the shading has joined the group. Release the programming button. 4. Press and hold STOP on the remote until the indicator lights stop blinking (approximately 6 seconds). Basic Operation To wake up the remote, simply pick it up or press STOP. The last group(s) selected will be highlighted and active. Press "all" or groups 1 6 to select specific shading(s) to move. Selected group button(s) will light to show they are selected. Multiple group buttons may be selected at a time. To deselect a group, press the group button again. The backlight for that group button will go out. Press CLOSE to lower the front shading, open the vanes, and lower the rear shade. Press OPEN to raise the rear shade, close the vanes, and raise the front shading. Press STOP to stop shading or vane movement anywhere along its travel. Press the right arrow to open the vanes; the rear shade is fully raised and the front shading is fully lowered. Press the left arrow to close the vanes; the rear shade is fully raised and the front shading is fully lowered. While the front shading or rear shade is in motion, press the opposite of shading motion ( OPEN or CLOSE) to reverse direction and move to fully open or fully closed. Press FAVORITE to send selected shading(s) to your preset "favorite" position. Refer to the PowerView® Automation Remote Control Guide for instructions to set a favorite position. The default favorite position is the rear shade fully raised and the front shading at 50% open with the vanes closed. 23 OPERATION Change the Closed Vane Adjustment Position The closed vane adjustment position is set for each shading at the factory and normally does not require readjustment. Use the following instructions to reset the position for shadings that may need additional adjustment. The objective is to get the longest drop of the shading with the vanes fully closed. There is a one minute time limit while the shading is in fine adjustment mode. The shading must be moved at least once during each minute to prevent the mode from timing out. 1. On the remote, press the group number of the shading (16), then press the left arrow to fully lower the front shading and close the vanes (the rear shade is fully raised). 2. While pressing the programming button on the shading, press the left arrow on the remote, then release the programming button on the shading. The programming button light will turn on solid red to indicate the shading is in fine adjustment mode. NOTE: If the shading moves, or the programming button flashes green, repeat steps 1 and 2. 3. Use OPEN, STOP, and CLOSE on the remote to lower the shading or raise the shading as far as possible without opening the vanes. The shading will move in slow speed while in fine adjustment mode. NOTE: In the vanes closed position, the bottom rail will be slightly raised from the window sill, which is normal. 4. Set the new adjustment position. Press and hold STOP on the remote for approximately 6 seconds, until the indicator lights on the remote start blinking. 5. Save the new adjustment position and exit fine adjustment mode. While pressing the programming button on the shading, press the left arrow on the remote, then release the programming button. The red light turns off, the green light flashes twice, and the shading moves slightly twice to confirm that the new setting was accepted. 6. Exit program mode on the remote. Press and hold STOP on the remote until the indicator lights on the remote stop blinking (approximately 6 seconds), or let the remote time out (approximately 20 seconds). 7. Resetting the Shading (If Necessary) Calibration Reset The calibration reset is used to recalibrate the shading's travel limits. 1. Press and hold the programming button for approximately 6 seconds. The shading will move slightly. Release the programming button (the light flashes red). 2. Both the front shading and rear shade will raise to their fully open positions to set the upper travel limit, then lower to their fully closed positions to reestablish the lower travel limit. The rear shade will move slightly twice (up, then down) to indicate that the travel limits were recalibrated. Resetting Shading Programming The programming reset erases shade programming from memory, including group assignments, preventing input devices from operating the shading. The primary use is to correct group and network assignments during installation. The reset does not affect travel limits or the favorite position. 1. Press and hold the programming button for approximately 12 seconds. The shading will move slightly after 6 seconds, then again after 12 seconds. Release the programming button (the light flashes red). The light then flashes a series of green and red to indicate that shading programming is erased from memory. 2. Refer to "Joining a Shading to a Group" on page 23 to program the shading to a group. 25 OPERATION Troubleshooting If your shading is not operating correctly: First review the guide that came with your control device. Refer to the following troubleshooting procedures for specific solutions for your shading. If questions remain, please contact Hunter Douglas Consumer Support at 1-888-501-8364. Problem The headrail will not fit into the installation brackets. Solution Check that the installation brackets are level and aligned. Adjust and/or shim (not provided) to level, if necessary. Be sure the heads of the mounting screws are flush against the installation brackets. Check that the headrail is completely inserted into the installation brackets so that the locking lever on the installation bracket slides over the headrail. See "STEP 3: Install the Shading" on page 10. If a PowerView® shading has a battery wand, check that the wand is not interfering with the installation brackets. Problem PowerView and SoftTouch® only: Batteries in the battery wand need to be replaced. Solution Replace the batteries in the battery wand. Squeeze the cap latch to release the cap and remove the cap from the battery wand. Battery Wand Install the batteries according to the instructions on the battery wand label. Press the cap on until it latches. Cap Squeeze Latch NOTE: Hunter Douglas recommends AA alkaline batteries for use with our battery-powered shadings. These will provide more than one year of operation, depending on usage. Lithium and rechargeable batteries are not recommended. 26 OPERATION Problem PowerView® and SoftTouch® only: Rechargeable battery needs recharging. Solution There are two methods for charging the rechargeable battery wand -- the dual charging station or the single charger. CAUTION: Rechargeable battery wand can only be charged with Hunter Douglas provided charging options -- alternative charging devices may result in permanent damage. Removing the Rechargeable Battery Wand from the Mount To safely remove the rechargeable battery wand from your shading, grasp the end of the battery wand that is furthest away from the power socket. CAUTION: Grasp the wand firmly prior to removal. Using the indentation on the end of the battery wand, use your index finger to pull the battery out of the mount. NOTE: The mount should remain installed and plugged into the shading cable during this process. You will simply remove the wand from the mount. (Continued on next page) 27 OPERATION Problem PowerView® and SoftTouch® only: Rechargeable battery needs recharging (continued). Solution Recharging Via the Dual Charging Station Plug the dual charging station into a standard AC outlet. Insert the nose of the rechargeable battery wand into the dual charging station slot. Battery snaps firmly into place. A red indicator light confirms the battery wand is properly inserted and is charging. Once the battery has been fully recharged, the light indicator turns green. Charging may take up to three hours, depending on your battery level. Remove the battery wand from the charger. Recharging Via the Single Charger Remove the rechargeable battery wand from the mount, or insert the single charger cable without removing from the shading. Attach the plug adapter to the charger. Plug the charger into a standard AC outlet. Plug the charging cable into the charging outlet on the rechargeable battery wand. The charging outlet is near the nose of the wand. (Continued on next page) 28 OPERATION Problem PowerView® and SoftTouch® only: Rechargeable battery needs recharging (continued). Solution A red light indicator confirms the battery wand is properly inserted and is charging. CAUTION: Do not attempt to plug the charging cable into the battery mount's Not this power socket. Doing so will not only fail socket to charge the battery wand but could possibly cause damage to both the single charger and the battery mount. Once the battery has been fully recharged, the red light indicator will turn green. Charging may take up to two hours, depending on your battery level. Remove the charging cable from the battery wand. Reinserting the Rechargeable Battery Wand into the Mount Match the direction of the arrow on the underside of the battery wand with the arrow on the battery mount. Insert the nose of the battery wand into the cavity of the battery mount. Push the battery wand flush into the mount until the battery snaps into place. Problem PowerView and SoftTouch only:The rechargeable batter wand is charged but the shade does not operate. Solution If your rechargeable battery wand is charged but not working, it may be due to its physical location in your window. The rechargeable battery wand can operate in temperatures up to 176°F (80°C). If the temperature in your window exceeds this, the safety feature will shut the battery off temporarily. The battery wand will turn back on, once the temperature lowers into the operable range. If you anticipate the rechargeable battery wand consistently exceeding this temperature limit, please reinstall in a location that avoids direct sunlight. 29 OPERATION Problem SoftTouch® only: The shading does not operate when pushing up or pulling down the wand. Solution Unplug the power cable from the motor and lift the wand to discharge any residual power, then plug the power cable back in. A green LED should flash to indicate the motor has power. If the LED flashes red, the batteries are drained and will need to be replaced. NOTE: The LED is best viewed from below. Check that the batteries in the battery wand, satellite battery pack, or C-size satellite battery wand are correctly inserted and fresh. Check that the power source is securely connected to the power cable and the cables are not pinched or caught in the headrail or installation brackets. If you have the rechargeable battery wand, check to see that the battery wand is correctly positioned in the mount. Problem SoftTouch only: The wand detached from the activation arm when operating the shading. Solution The wand is attached to the activation arm using a magnet and is easily reattached by touching the top of the wand to the activation arm. Problem PowerView® only: The shading does not operate when the programming button is pressed. Solution Check that the batteries in the wand or satellite battery pack are correctly inserted and have not lost power. Check that the power source is securely connected to the power cable and the cables are not pinched or caught in the headrail or installation brackets. If you have the rechargeable battery wand, check to see that the battery wand is correctly positioned in the mount. Problem PowerView only: The shading does not respond to the remote. Solution Unplug the power cable from the motor, then plug it back in. A green LED inside the programming button housing should flash to indicate the motor has power. Check that the batteries in the battery wand, satellite battery pack, or C-size satellite battery wand are correctly inserted and fresh. Check that the power source is securely connected to the power cable and the cables are not pinched or caught in the headrail or installation brackets. 30 OPERATION Problem The shading raises or lowers unevenly, the fabric rubs against one end of the headrail, or the bottom rail is uneven when fully raised. Solution Check that the window is square by measuring the diagonals. Check that the installation brackets are level. Shim (not provided) to level, if necessary. Check that the limit stops are adjusted the same and are not too tight. Perform a skew adjustment for the front shading or rear shade. See below. Adjust the Bottom Rail Weight of the Front Shading Flip up the bottom rail to access the bottom rail weight. To release the weight clip, insert a flat blade screwdriver into the weight clip and turn clockwise. Weight Clip Weight Weight Clip Move the weight in 1" increments toward the side where the fabric Fabric Roll is gathering. Move Weight Secure the weight clips in position by turning them counterclockwise after making the adjustment. Test and, if necessary, adjust again. Apply Skew Adjustment Tape to the Rear Roller Shade Using the tape strips and instruction guide in the Skew Adjustment Kit included with your order, place the tape strips onto the window side of the rear roller shade fabric. The number of tape strips and their placement depends on the type and severity of the skew, as explained in the instruction guide. Tape Strips 31 OPERATION Problem The shading or shade is hard to raise or lower, or will not raise or lower. Solution Shadings cannot be forced into tight inside mount window openings. If an inside mount, check that the headrail is installed correctly. Make sure there is clearance between the ends of the shading or shade and the window casement. Check that the installation brackets are level and aligned. Adjust and/or shim (not provided) to level, if necessary. Problem The front shading is hard to raise or lower, or the bottom rail does not stop at the top limit. Solution Check the adjustment position of both limit stops. The top illustration shows the correct adjustment. The limit stop catches the bottom rail, and the bottom of the limit stop is slightly above or barely touching the fabric roll. In the second illustration, the limit stop adjustment is too tight. The fabric may not drop freely and could even be damaged when the shading is raised. To correct this, the limit stop should be adjusted one step up. Simply pull back on the rear of the limit stop to adjust its position. In the bottom illustration, the adjustment is too loose. The bottom rail can slip under the limit stop. If the bottom rail rotates through the headrail, it must be backed out before adjusting the limit stop. IMPORTANT: Both limit stops must be adjusted to the same position or else skewing may occur. Headrail Limit Stop Fabric Roll Bottom Rail Pull Back to Adjust Too Tight -- Adjust One Step Up Pull Back to Adjust Too Loose -- Adjust One Step Down 32 OPERATION Problem The vanes do not open when the shading is first operated. Solution Make sure the front shading is completely lowered and the rear shade is fully raised. Open and close the shading several times to help open the vanes. If necessary, gently pull down on the bottom rail when the shading is fully lowered. Problem The vanes do not close fully when the shading stops in the lowest position. Solution A small distance between the front and back fabric facings in the fully closed or open position is normal. PowerView® only: If this distance is excessive or moves over time, open the shading to its full "vane open" position and try again. If this does not correct the problem, reset the bottom limit. See "Resetting the Shading (If Necessary)" on page 25. Problem The shading raises from the sill when the vanes are closed. Solution A small gap between the sill and the bottom of the shading is normal in the fully lowered "vane closed" position. The gap is necessary to allow for the unimpeded movement of the bottom rail. PowerView only: If this distance is excessive or moves over time, open the shading to its full "vane open" position and try again. If this does not correct the problem, reset the bottom limit. See "Resetting the Shading (If Necessary)" on page 25. Problem PowerView only: Adjacent shadings do not roll up evenly. Solution It is considered normal if the roll-up on adjacent shadings is within 5/16" of each other. If one shading rolls up tighter than another, lower and raise both shadings several times. Reset the shading. See "Resetting the Shading (If Necessary)" on page 25. Check that the shading fabric is not catching on any brackets or components. Check that the fabric winds evenly and does not rub against the headrail. If uneven, see "Adjust the Bottom Rail Weight of the Front Shading" on page 31. 33 OPERATION Problem PowerView® only: The bottom rail does not raise or lower completely, or its location when fully lowered has changed over time. Solution The batteries may be low in the battery wand or satellite battery pack. Replace the batteries. Check that the power source is securely connected to the power cable and the cables are not pinched or caught in the headrail or installation brackets. Check that there is clearance between the ends of the shading and the window casement on inside mounts. Check if the fabric rolls up evenly into the headrail. If not, see "Adjust the Bottom Rail Weight of the Front Shading" on page 31. Reset the upper and lower travel limits. See "Resetting the Shading (If Necessary)" on page 25. See the PowerView Automation Remote Control Guide for operation or programming troubleshooting solutions. Problem The front sheer fabric of the front shading clings to the rear sheer fabric. Solution Lightly apply a static spray for home furnishings. Follow the manufacturer's directions. Allow the shading to dry in the fully lowered position. If necessary, reapply the static spray each time the shading is professionally cleaned. Problem SoftTouch® only: The shading limits need to be adjusted. Solution Adjust the Upper Limit -- available for Front Shading only. NOTE: Programming mode timeout is 20 seconds. If there is no action within 20 seconds, programming mode exits. Move the shading to the fully open position (front shading and rear shade are completely inside the headrail). See "Basic Operation" on page 20. Programming Mode -- In two motions: push the wand up and release, and quickly push the wand up and hold. After approximately 6 seconds the shading will beep and a red LED behind the activator arm will blink continuously to indicate programming mode. Release the wand. The upper limit is ready to be adjusted. Pull the wand down and release to move the front shading down. When the desired upper limit location is reached, stop the shading. Push the wand up and hold for approximately 6 seconds until the front shading moves slightly twice (down, up). The red LED turns off. Release the wand. The shading movement indicates the new upper limit is set and the shading exits programming mode. (continued on next page) 34 OPERATION Problem SoftTouch® only: The shading limits need to be adjusted. (continued) Solution Adjust the Lower Limit -- available for Rear Shade only. Vanes Closed and Vanes Open Limits are also set. All three limits must be set in sequential order when in programming mode. The mechanical limit is when the rear shade is at the maximum fully closed (down) position. If the mechanical limit is reached while the rear shade is being adjusted, the mechanical limit will automatically become the lower limit. NOTE: Programming mode timeout is 20 seconds. If there is no action within 20 seconds, programming mode exits. Adjust the Lower Limit Move the front shading and rear shade to the fully closed (down) position. Vanes are fully open. See "Basic Operation" on page 20. Programming Mode -- In two motions: pull the wand down and release, and quickly pull the wand down and hold. After approximately 6 seconds the shading will beep and a red LED behind the activator arm will blink continuously to indicate programming mode. Release the wand. The lower limit is ready to be adjusted. IMPORTANT: For the following step, if you pull the wand down, it will set the bottom limit at the fully down position (mechanical limit) and then automatically go to the vanes closed position for adjustment. Push the wand up and release to move the rear shade up. When the desired lower limit location is reached, stop the rear shade. Pull the wand down and hold for approximately 6 seconds until the rear shade moves slightly twice (up, down or down, up). Release the wand. The rear shade movement indicates the new lower limit is set. The rear shade moves to the fully open position and the front shading moves to the vanes closed position. (continued on next page) 35 OPERATION Problem SoftTouch® only: The shading limits need to be adjusted. (continued) Solution Set the Vanes Closed Limit Push the wand up or pull down to move the front shading to the desired closed vanes position. Stop movement when the desired closed position is reached. Pull the wand down and hold for approximately 6 seconds until the front shading or vanes move slightly twice and the vanes fully open. Release the wand. The shading or vane movement indicates the new vanes closed limit is set. Set the Vanes Open Limit Push the wand up or pull down to move the vanes to the desired open vanes position. Make sure the rear shade does not come down. Stop movement when the desired open position is reached. Pull the wand down and hold for approximately 6 seconds until the rear shade or vanes move slightly twice. Release the wand. The shading or vane movement indicates the new vanes open limit is set and the shading exits programming mode. 36 CARE Removing the Shading Fully raise the shading. Disconnect the power source from the power cable at the back of the shading. Move each lever of the installation brackets to the left to release the shading. CAUTION: A flat blade screwdriver can be used to move the lever. Be very careful not to tear or damage the fabric. Carefully pull the headrail to completely remove the shading from the brackets. Top View Move the lever to the left to release the shading. Cleaning Procedures Silhouette® Window Shadings are made of 100% polyester, which means they are inherently durable and resilient. However, care must be taken to avoid wrinkling the fabric, particularly where the vanes meet the facings. Cleaning the Palette® Fabric-Covered Headrail Spot-clean the headrail using a sponge or delicate cloth, cool distilled water and a mild soap solution; handle with care as you would any fine fabric. Cleaning the Front Silhouette Shading Dusting Regular light dusting with a feather duster is all the cleaning needed in most circumstances. Vacuuming Use a low suction, hand-held vacuum for more thorough dust removal. Forced Air Blow away dirt and debris between the vanes using clean compressed air. Spot-Cleaning Do not spot-clean anything other than the Palette® fabric-covered headrail. Ultrasonic Cleaning Silhouette® Window Shadings can be ultrasonically cleaned by a professional, with the exception of BrioTM, ClearViewTM OriginaleTM, ClearView TapestryTM, India SilkTM, The Matisse Collection®, and MystereTM. Specify that a mild detergent solution be used. Never immerse the headrail in the solution. Dry the shading completely in the lowered position. 37 CARE Injection/Extraction Silhouette® Window Shadings can be professionally cleaned using the injection/extraction method. Never immerse the headrail in the solution. Electrostatic Cleaning Do not use electrostatic cleaning wipes on any Silhouette Window Shading. Cleaning the Rear Roller Shade The rear roller shade fabric can be cleaned by dusting, hand-held vacuuming, compressed air, hair dryer on the cool setting, and the dry method of injection/extraction. A Note About Hardware for The Alustra® Collection Gold RadianceTM, Silver ReflectionTM, and Bronze ShimmerTM hardware finishes can be spotcleaned with lukewarm water and a gentle soap. Do not use alcohol, baby wipes, or alkaline cleansers. These may stain or destroy the finish. A Note About Silhouette Fabrics As with all textiles, Silhouette fabrics are subject to some variations. Slight wrinkling, puckering, or bowing is inherent to this textile product and should be considered normal, acceptable quality. These characteristics are not usually visible from the front or rear but may be visible from a side angle. Precautions should be taken to reduce exposure to harsh environmental elements, such as salt air. Continuous exposure through open windows and doors will accelerate the fabric deterioration. 38 CHILD SAFETY WA R N I N G For more safety information, call 1-800-997-2389. Young children can wrap cords around their necks and STRANGLE. Always keep cords out of the reach of children. Move cribs, playpens and other furniture away from cords. Children can climb furniture to get to cords. NOTE: The warning labels on the bottom rails of corded window coverings contain important safety information.
