General Safety and Installation Guidelines
Adhere to national approval guidelines for installations. Modifications or alterations to the tow bar are prohibited and will void the operating license.
Remove any insulating mass or underbody protection from the vehicle's contact surfaces for the tow bar.
The tow bar is designed for towing trailers and carrying loads. Any other use is prohibited.
Vehicles equipped with parking assist systems may experience malfunctions if parts of the tow bar (ball neck, coupling ball) obstruct the sensors. Adjust the sensor range or deactivate the parking assist system if necessary. For tow bars with removable or pivoting ball necks, malfunctions are unlikely if the ball neck is removed from its operating position.
The tow bar is a safety-critical component and must only be installed by qualified companies. Incorrect installation poses a severe accident hazard! The German text of this manual is binding.
Subject to change.
Installation Procedure
This section describes the installation process based on the provided diagrams. Ensure you have the correct parts and tools before starting.
Step 1: Bumper Preparation
Diagram 1a/1b: Shows the rear of the vehicle. The bumper cover needs to be removed. For Octavia 2 models (1b), the spare wheel may need to be removed to access mounting points.
Step 2: Accessing Mounting Points
Diagram 2a/2b: Illustrates accessing the vehicle's chassis mounting points. This may involve removing trim panels or specific components. Specific bolts (labeled "c") are indicated for securing parts.
Step 3: Interior Access and Preparation
Diagram 3: Depicts accessing the vehicle's interior, likely the trunk or rear panel, possibly to route wiring or secure components. Protective gloves ? are recommended.
Diagram 4: Shows the underside of the vehicle, highlighting the specific chassis mounting points where the tow bar will be attached.
Step 4: Mounting the Tow Bar Bracket
Diagram 5: Shows the main tow bar bracket being positioned and attached to the vehicle's chassis.
Diagram 6a (Octavia 2): Details attaching the tow bar bracket using specific bolts (10.5x30x3, M10x35) and tightening them to a torque of 55 Nm. The diagram indicates specific mounting points labeled "a".
Diagram 6b (Superb II): Details attaching the tow bar bracket using specific bolts (10.5x30x3, M10x35) and tightening them to a torque of 55 Nm. The diagram indicates specific mounting points labeled "b".
Step 5: Bumper Modification
Diagram 7a (Octavia 2 Limousine, Combi, 4x4, Scout): Shows the rear bumper and indicates a cut-out area with specific dimensions (e.g., 190mm, 140mm, Y0) required for the tow bar to pass through. A cutting tool is implied.
Diagram 7b (Octavia 2 Limousine, Combi 2008→): Similar to 7a, indicating a cut-out on the bumper.
Diagram 7c (Superb II): Indicates a cut-out area on the Superb II bumper with dimensions (e.g., 135mm, 155mm, Y0, R20) for the tow bar.
Step 6: Final Assembly
Diagram 8: Shows interior work, possibly for electrical connections or trim.
Diagram 9a/9b: Illustrates re-installing the bumper or bumper components after the tow bar is mounted. The spare wheel is shown being re-fitted in 9a.
Diagram 10: Details the final attachment of the ball hitch (part 2) to the tow bar bracket (part 1). This involves securing it with bolts (M12x80) and tightening them to a torque of 95 Nm. Part 3 is likely a locking mechanism.
