User manual and additional information available at: spl.audio/performer-s1200
Start Up
- Read the security advices on page 6!
- Remove the two transport locking screws at the bottom of the Performer s1200. Keep them safe for future transport.
- Ensure the selected mains voltage of the Performer s1200 matches your region's voltage.
- Make sure the mains switch on the rear is set to Off (Off = O / ON = I).
- Connect the supplied power cord to the Performer s1200 and an appropriate mains socket outlet. If the cord is incompatible, contact your dealer.
- Turn off all devices you wish to connect to the Performer s1200.
- To trigger standby and operation remotely, connect the AMP CTL output of an SPL device (or other 12V trigger controller) to the AMP CTL input of the Performer s1200 using a mono mini jack cable (tip is plus, sleeve is minus). The cable is not included. The amplifier operates when 12V DC is applied and enters standby when it's removed.
- Connect the outputs of your preamplifier to the inputs (INPUT) of the Performer s1200 using appropriate audio cables (XLR or RCA). Audio cables are not included.
- Connect the Performer s1200 to your speakers using speaker cables. Speaker cables are not included.
Front Panel
The front panel features the following:
- LED Indicators: PROTECT, PWR (Power), TEMP.
- Controls: Volume knob, Input Select switch, Gain Trim switches (for Left and Right channels).
Rear Panel
The rear panel provides the following connections and controls:
- Mains Connector: For the power cord.
- Mains Voltage Selection: Switch to set the correct mains voltage (115V AC / 230V AC).
- Mains Switch: Power On/Off switch (I/O).
- Speaker Outputs (Left/Right): Connect your speakers here. Minimum load is 2 Ohms.
- Inputs (Left/Right): XLR and RCA input connectors for your preamplifier.
- AMP CTL / 12V TRIGGER: 12V DC trigger input for remote standby control. XLR wiring: Pin 1 = GND, Pin 2 = Hot (+), Pin 3 = Cold (-).
- Fuse Holder: For replacing fuses (230V AC: T 6.3 A L 250 V; 115V AC: T 10 A L 250 V).
- CE / UKCA Markings
- Made in Germany
Power Up
- Turn down the volume of the connected preamplifier.
- Switch on the mains switch on the rear of the Performer s1200 (On = I). The Power LED will light up.
Standby
The standby function requires an AMP CTL connection to an SPL device with an AMP CTL output or a 12V trigger controller. In standby mode, the Power LED is dimly lit.
Power Down
- Turn down the volume of the connected preamplifier.
- Switch off the mains switch on the back of the Performer s1200 (Off = 0). The Power LED will no longer light up.
Gain Trim
You can adjust the amplification gain using the trim switches on the rear of the unit to fine-tune playback levels, especially in multi-amplifier/speaker setups.
Input Switch
Select your input source between XLR or RCA. Both cannot be used simultaneously.
Security Advices
Before starting up the device:
- Read and follow all security advice.
- Read and follow the Quickstart guide.
- Observe all warning instructions on the device.
- Keep the user manual and security advice in a safe place for future reference.
[!] Warning
Always follow the security advice below to avoid serious injury or fatal accidents due to electric shock, short circuits, fire, or other dangers. The following are examples and not an exhaustive list:
Power supply/Power cord
- Do not place the power cord near heat sources.
- Do not excessively bend, damage, or place heavy objects on the cord.
- Ensure the cord does not create a tripping hazard.
- Only use the voltage indicated on the device.
- Only use the supplied power cord/plug.
- If using the device in a different region, the included cord may not be compatible; contact your dealer.
- Connect to an appropriate mains socket outlet with protective grounding. Improper grounding can cause electrical shock.
Do not open
This device contains no user-serviceable parts. Do not open or modify the device. If malfunctioning, turn off power immediately, unplug the cord, and have it inspected by a qualified professional.
Water warning
- Do not expose to rain, use near water, or in damp/wet conditions.
- Do not place liquids (e.g., vases, bottles) on the device where they could spill into openings.
- If liquid seeps into the device, turn off power immediately, unplug the cord, and have it inspected by a qualified professional.
- Never insert or remove an electric plug with wet hands.
Fire warning
Do not place burning items (e.g., candles) on the unit. A burning item could fall and cause a fire.
Lightning
Before thunderstorms or severe weather, disconnect the device from the mains socket outlet. Do not do this during a storm. Disconnect other interconnected devices, antenna, and phone/network cables to prevent damage from secondary connections.
If you notice any abnormality
If any of the following occur, immediately turn off the power, unplug the device, and have it inspected by a qualified professional:
- Frayed or damaged power cord or plug.
- Unusual smells or smoke from the device.
- An object has fallen into the unit.
- Sudden loss of sound during use.
[?] Caution
Always follow basic precautions to avoid physical injury or damage to the device or property:
Power supply/Power cord
- When unplugging, pull the plug itself, not the cord, to avoid damage.
- Unplug the device when not in use for extended periods.
XLR output connector
Touching the open pins of the XLR output connector may cause discomfort.
Location
- Place the device on a stable surface to prevent accidental tipping.
- Do not block ventilation openings. Inadequate ventilation can lead to overheating, damage, or fire.
- Do not place the device on its side or upside down.
- Avoid locations with corrosive gases or salty air, which may cause malfunction.
- Remove all connected cables before moving the device.
- Ensure the mains socket outlet is easily accessible for quick disconnection in case of trouble.
- Even when off, the product draws minimal power. Unplug the cord for long periods of non-use.
Connections
Before connecting or disconnecting devices, power them down and set all volume levels to minimum.
Use only appropriate, intact cables that comply with electrical specifications. Improper cables can lead to health risks and equipment damage.
Handling
Operate controls and switches only as described. Avoid excessive force. Do not insert fingers or foreign objects into openings. If foreign objects enter, power down immediately, unplug, and have inspected by a professional.
Avoid excessive dust, vibrations, extreme cold, or heat (direct sunlight, near heaters, in cars) to prevent housing deformation, component damage, or unstable operation.
If ambient temperature changes drastically, condensation may occur. Do not power on the device for several hours until condensation has evaporated.
Cleaning
Disconnect from mains before cleaning. Use a dry cloth; avoid solvents which can damage the finish. Mild, acid-free cleaning oil may be used sparingly.
