The PM42 series comprises compact, open PCB constructed, AC-DC switching power supplies capable of delivering 30-48 watts of continuous output power at convection cooling. These units operate at a wide input voltage range of 90-264 VAC without the need for voltage selection. They are well-suited for medical, information technology, and industrial applications. Approval to both EN60601-1 and EN62368-1 Safety Standards helps to improve design-in time and reduce end equipment compliance costs.

Notes:

  • Safety approvals are for PCB form only. To order a unit with a cover fitted, change the suffix "A" to "C".
  • The output voltages of a multiple output model may go outside of the stated tolerance when an output load current is out of stated limits. All models may be operated at no-load without damage.
  • Ripple and noise is the maximum peak to peak voltage value measured at the output within a 20 MHz bandwidth, at rated line voltage and output load ranges, and with a 10 μF tantalum capacitor in parallel with a 0.1 μF ceramic capacitor across the output.

Mechanical Specifications

The power supply has a compact open-frame PCB construction. Key dimensions are approximately 2 inches (50.8 mm) in width, 4 inches (101.6 mm) in length, and 1.18 inches (30.0 mm) in height. There are four mounting holes, each with a diameter of 0.157 inches (4.00 mm), suitable for chassis mounting. The unit includes connectors CN1 and CN2, specified as Molex headers (e.g., Molex header 09-65-2038 or equivalent). A ground tab is also present. For compliance with Level B emissions, it is recommended to connect the two marked mounting holes with metallic standoffs to the chassis. The approximate weight of the unit is 205 grams (0.45 lbs.).

Output Power Derating Curve

The output power derating curve illustrates the relationship between ambient temperature and maximum output power. The graph shows that the power supply can deliver 100% of its rated output power up to an ambient temperature of +50°C. Beyond this point, the output power derates linearly, reaching 50% of its rated capacity at +70°C. The temperature range shown on the x-axis is from -10°C to +70°C.
