Block Diagram Overview
The Cherry Tomato Block diagram illustrates the placement and dimensions of various fabric pieces. The central piece is A1 (6 1/2" x 4 1/2"). Surrounding this are pieces like B2 (2 1/4" x 1 1/2"), C3 (1" squares), E5 (1 3/4" x 1 1/2"), L3 (1 3/4" squares), J1 (2" squares), I9 (2 1/4" x 6 3/4"), H8 (10" x 2 1/4"), and G7 (10" x 2"). Specific pieces like D4 (4" x 1"), F6 (1" x 1 1/4"), and M4 (1" squares) are also noted for their placement and dimensions.
Note: C3 pieces are 1" squares, F6 is 1" x 1 1/4", and M4 pieces are 1" squares.

Diagonal Seam Instructions
- Using a water-soluble pen or pencil, draw a diagonal line from one corner to the opposite corner on the backside of a square piece of fabric. Place this square in the corner of a larger rectangle or square piece of fabric, Right Sides Together (RST). Ensure the marked line intersects with two edges of the fabric underneath.
- With the two pieces RST, carefully sew along the marked line from one corner to the opposite corner.
- Trim 1/4" away from the sewn line.
- Press the seam with a hot, dry iron as instructed.
Assembling the Cherry Tomato Block
- Sew two C3 pieces and one E5 piece Right Sides Together (RST), as illustrated in Figure A. Press seams toward the E5 pieces.
- Sew two C3 pieces and one E5 piece RST, as illustrated in Figure B. Press seams toward the C3 pieces.
- Sew the unit from Figure A to the left side of the unit from Figure B, RST. Press the seam open.
- Sew a B2 piece to the left and right sides of the unit from Step 3, RST. Press seams toward the B2 pieces (Figure C).
- Sew an A1 piece to the bottom of the unit from Figure C, RST. Press the seam toward the A1 piece (Figure D).
- Sew diagonal seams with two L3 pieces and two J1 pieces, RST, as illustrated in Figure E. Press seams toward the L3 and J1 pieces.
- Sew a K2 piece to the left and right sides of the F6 piece, RST. Press seams toward the K2 pieces (Figure F).
- Sew diagonal seams with the D4 and M4 pieces, RST. Press seams toward the D4 piece (Figure G).
- Sew the unit from Figure F to the top of the unit from Figure G, RST. Press the seam open.
- Sew an L3 piece to the left and right sides of the unit from Step 9, RST. Press seams toward the L3 pieces (Figure H).
- Sew the unit from Figure H to the top of the unit from Figure E, RST. Press the seam open (Figure I).
- Sew an I9 piece to the left and right sides of the unit from Step 11, RST. Press seams toward the I9 pieces.
- Sew a G7 piece to the top and an H8 piece to the bottom of the unit from Step 12, RST. Press seams toward the G7 and H8 pieces. This completes the Cherry Tomato Block.

Quilt Example and Fabric Details
An example of how to incorporate the Cherry Tomato Block into the 'Chance of Rain' quilt is shown. The 'Chance of Rain' quilt pattern is available at penandpaperpatterns.com.
TIP: To create the quilt shown, use the Flower Block pieces (C, P, Q, R, S, T, and U) from the 'Chance of Rain' pattern, regardless of quilt size (Baby, Large Throw, or Twin). You will also need the Cherry Tomato Block pieces from this pattern.
The Cherry Tomato Quilt mock-up was made using Kona solids. The names of these solids are: Cedar, Persimmon, Artichoke, Peach, Thistle, and Shell.
