1.1 ALE-160 WB Cordless Handset
1.1.1 Description
This section describes the physical features and basic functions of the ALE-160 WB Cordless Handset.
- 1. Power button / Line key: Press and hold to switch the device on/off. If voice prompts are enabled, you will hear "Power On" or "Power Off". Press briefly to take or terminate a call. A long press after switching on the device puts the handset into detectable (pairing) mode.
- 2. Mute button: During a call, press this button to stop your contact from hearing you.
- 3. Volume up and down buttons: Press '+' to increase volume during a conversation. Press '-' to decrease volume during a conversation.
- 4. Earpiece: Super wideband earpiece.
- 5. Microphone: Super wideband microphone, with an integrated LED.
- 6. LED: Status indicator light.
- 7. Battery compartment: Houses the handset's battery.
The battery offers over 10 hours of talk time and 50 hours of idle time. Charge the battery for approximately 6 hours before initial use. For long periods of non-use, it is recommended to switch off the device and disconnect the battery.
1.1.2 Unboxing
Upon unboxing, you should find the following items:
- ALE-160 WB Cordless Handset.
- Battery pack, pre-placed on the handset.
- Safety and regulatory instructions.
1.1.3 LED
The LED is located on the top of the handset and over the microphone. It uses blue, red, and purple colors to indicate the handset's status.

1.1.4 Installing or replacing the Bluetooth® handset battery
To replace the battery, ensure the handset is turned off.
Steps:
- Press and slide the bottom piece of the device a few millimeters towards the bottom with your thumbs.
- Lift the piece off by pulling it upwards. Be careful not to break the clips.
- Disconnect the old battery by separating its connectors.
- Connect the new battery by joining its two connectors.
- Place the piece back, ensuring it aligns with the notches.
- Slide the piece back to the top of the handset a few millimeters with your thumbs.

1.1.5 Enable Bluetooth®
You must enable Bluetooth® if it is not already activated. Follow these steps:
- Navigate to [Menu icon] > Bluetooth.
- Select 'Enable': Activate Bluetooth® (check the box).
- Enter the password if prompted.
1.1.6 Pairing and connecting the Bluetooth® wireless handset
Before the Bluetooth® handset can be used, it must be correctly paired to the terminal to create a wireless link.
1.1.6.1 Easy pairing
This method is designed for easy pairing with previous Bluetooth devices.
- Put the handset in detectable mode:
- If the device is not paired: Switch it on; it will be in pairing mode automatically.
- If the device is already paired with another desk phone: Switch on the device and hold down the power key for a few seconds.
- Place the handset near the previous Bluetooth device; it should pair automatically.
1.1.6.2 Usual pairing
- Put the handset in detectable mode:
- If the device is not paired: Switch it on; it will be in pairing mode automatically.
- Set your Bluetooth device to 'discover' the Bluetooth® wireless handset:
- Use one of the following paths: [Menu icon] > Bluetooth > Search devices.
- Connect the handset with the Bluetooth device:
- The device will search for Bluetooth equipment. Wait for the detected equipment type and address to be displayed.
- Select the Bluetooth® wireless handset, which should appear as "ALE-160 BT Handset".
- Add the device by selecting the relevant menu option on your Bluetooth device, typically 'Add'.
The handset is correctly connected if it appears in the list of connected devices on your Bluetooth device. Press the Line key on the handset to test the connection; your Bluetooth device may prompt you to enter a number.
Please contact your installer if you encounter any problems. Before contacting them, ensure you have information such as the serial number, date code, and technical reference found on the battery.
1.1.7 Information about the connected handset and the battery level
To view information about the connected handset and its battery level:
- Ensure the handset is connected.
- Navigate: [Menu icon] > Bluetooth > Devices.
- Select the relevant device: "ALE-160 BT Handset".
- Select 'Information'.
- Information such as the MAC address, software version, serial number, and battery level will be displayed.
1.1.8 Voice prompts
Voice prompts assist in managing handset functions. Examples include: "Power On", "Power Off", "Device connected", "Device Disconnected", "Battery low", "Mute on", "Mute off", "English language", "Pairing mode, waiting for connection".
Voice prompts are available in 8 languages: English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Chinese Mandarin, Russian, and Spanish. The default language is English. To hear a prompt, the handset must be near your ear.
1.1.8.1 Define voice prompts language
- Ensure the handset is connected.
- Navigate: [Menu icon] > Bluetooth > Devices.
- Select the relevant device: "ALE-160 BT Handset".
- Select 'Language'.
- Choose your preferred language.
To switch to the next language, press Mute and Volume + keys simultaneously. To switch to the previous language, press Mute and Volume - keys simultaneously.
1.1.8.2 Activate/deactivate voice prompts
- Ensure the handset is connected.
- Navigate: [Menu icon] > Bluetooth > Devices.
- Select the relevant device: "ALE-160 BT Handset".
- Select 'Voice Prompts': check or uncheck the box to activate or deactivate.
To activate/deactivate voice prompts, press the Mute and Power keys simultaneously.
1.1.9 Activate/deactivate the beep touch instead of the voice prompts
This feature allows you to use audible beeps instead of voice prompts for certain actions.
- Ensure the handset is connected.
- Navigate: [Menu icon] > Bluetooth > Devices.
- Select the relevant device: "ALE-160 BT Handset".
- Select 'Key beeps': check or uncheck the box to activate or deactivate the key beeps.
1.1.10 Locate your handset
Use this function to find your handset if it is misplaced.
- Ensure the handset is connected.
- Navigate: [Menu icon] > Bluetooth > Devices.
- Select the relevant device: "ALE-160 BT Handset".
- Select 'Locate'.
The handset will ring, and a message will be displayed on the desk phone until the ringing is stopped. To stop the ringing, select 'Stop'.
1.1.11 Remove the handset
This procedure removes the handset's pairing information from the terminal.
- Ensure the handset is connected.
- Navigate: [Menu icon] > Bluetooth > Devices.
- Select the relevant device: "ALE-160 BT Handset".
- Select 'Remove'.
If voice prompts are enabled, you will hear "Pairing mode, waiting for connection". The screen may display "Device removed".
1.1.12 Upgrade the handset
The handset version is checked when it is connected. An update is performed when the Bluetooth® handset is in idle state. A message will be displayed in the status bar.
