Setting Up the Machine
Follow these steps to set up and rinse your machine before making your first cold coffee.
- Unpack the machine and place it on a counter top or other flat surface, 3 inches from walls.
- Plug the machine into a grounded outlet.
- Press the Cumulus logo on the capsule holder to release. Note the blank cleaning capsule that shipped with the machine; leave this capsule in place. Push the capsule holder down to lock it back into place.
- Remove the water tank by pulling the handle at the top. Remove the packaged water filter that shipped inside the tank and set aside.
- Remove the red plugs located on the back of the tank and on the machine under the platform where the water tank sits. Remove the stickers identifying these plugs. These items can be discarded.
- Install the drip tray that shipped separately in the packaging.
- Find a household container that holds a quart (32 oz) of water and that will fit underneath the spout with the drip tray in place; for example, a large measuring cup or a pitcher.
- Fill the water tank up to the fill line with clean water, and reinsert. Do not fill the tank with any liquid except water. Using any liquid except potable water is misuse and will void your warranty.
- The alert light pulses blue as the machine pumps water into the cooling chamber. Once the chamber is full, the alert light turns off and the light ring pulses blue indicating the machine is cooling water.
- When the alert light turns off, remove the water tank and discard any remaining water, then set aside. Place your household container on the drip tray, underneath the spout. Rotate the beverage selector dial to Still, then press and hold the brew button until all three beverage indicator lights and the light ring turn white; about 5 seconds.
- The machine pumps and dispenses water into your container (about 3 or 4 times), effectively rinsing the machine before first use. The water may look cloudy as it contains nitro bubbles. This is normal.
- When the cycle is complete, the light ring turns off and the capsule holder unlocks. Remove the blank cleaning capsule from the capsule holder and store for future use, and close the capsule holder. Empty your household container.
Making Coffee
You're moments away from the ultimate cold coffee experience. Brewed to perfection and coupled with state-of-the-art cooling technology, your beverage will emerge ready to drink at the perfect temperature—no ice needed.
- Remove the water filter from the packaging and lay it flat in the bottom of the water tank, then fill with enough clean water to cover. Let the filter prime for 5 minutes. Remove the primed filter, empty the tank, then press the filter onto the pedestal at the bottom of the tank. Fill the tank with clean water and reinsert.
- The alert light pulses blue as the machine pumps water into the cooling chamber. Once the cooling chamber is full, the alert light turns off and the light ring pulses blue indicating the machine is cooling water.
- Refill the water tank.
- The machine hums quietly for about 15 minutes as it cools water to the appropriate temperature. The light ring turns off when cooling is complete and the machine is ready for a capsule.
- Press the Cumulus logo on the capsule holder to release.
- Holding a Cumulus coffee capsule with the tab side down. Slide the capsule into the capsule holder from the side until you feel it click. The capsule must be fully inserted to properly function.
- Push the capsule holder down until you feel it lock into place. The brew button light ring pulses white, indicating the machine is loaded and ready to brew.
- Place your glass on the drip tray, under the spout.
- Rotate the beverage selector dial on the top of the machine until the desired beverage indicator light is illuminated: Still, Nitro, or Espresso.
- Press the brew button to start brewing. You cannot open the capsule holder once the brewing process has started.
- When dispensing is complete, all lights turn off and the capsule holder unlocks. Press down on the capsule holder to open, remove and recycle the coffee capsule. Close the capsule holder.
Machine Maintenance
The Cumulus Machine needs maintenance every 150 brews. When maintenance is needed, the alert light turns orange. The light turns white any time the machine needs water, but will return to orange if a maintenance cycle is needed and has yet to be performed. We recommend maintenance as soon as you see the orange light to retain the incredible taste and experience of Cumulus Coffee.
What you'll need:
- Cumulus cleaning solution
- The blank cleaning capsule that came with your machine
- A household container that holds a quart (32 oz) of water and that will fit underneath the spout with the drip tray in place; for example, a large measuring cup or a pitcher
- A new Cumulus filter cartridge
The process consists of three cycles—Purge, Cleaning, and Rinse—and a filter change. This takes about 15 minutes total.
Purge Cycle
The purge cycle can be run at any time to empty the system of all water. A purge is recommended before storing the machine for long periods of time, and prior to the cleaning cycle.
- Remove and empty the water tank. Remove the filter. Set aside.
- Empty the drip tray and reinsert.
- Place your household container on the drip tray, underneath the spout.
- Load the blank cleaning capsule that came with your machine into the pop-up capsule holder with the open end facing down.
- Rotate the knob to Nitro, then press and hold the brew button until all three beverage indicator lights and the light ring turn white; about 5 seconds.
- The machine pumps and dispenses water (about 3 or 4 times), purging all water from the cooling chamber. When the cycle is complete, all three beverage indicators turn off and the light ring pulses white, indicating you need to interact with the machine.
- Empty your household container.
You can exit machine maintenance any time the light ring is pulsing white by pressing and holding the brew button for 5 seconds. All three beverage indicator lights turn white, the ring light pulses white, and the capsule holder unlocks.
Cleaning Cycle
- Pour 1/2 bottle (4 oz) of Cumulus cleaning solution into the water tank, then fill with clean water and reinsert.
- Place your household container on the drip tray, underneath the spout.
- Press the brew button. The alert light pulses blue as the machine pumps water and cleaning solution into the cooling chamber.
- Once the chamber is full, all three beverage indicator lights and the light ring turn white as the machine pumps and dispenses water into your household container (about 3 or 4 times). When the cycle is complete, all three beverage indicators turn off and the light ring pulses white.
- Empty your household container.
Rinse Cycle
- Remove and empty the water tank, then fill with clean water and reinsert.
- Place your household container on the drip tray, underneath the spout.
- Press the brew button. The alert light pulses blue as the machine pumps water into the cooling chamber.
- Once the chamber is full, all three beverage indicator lights and the light ring turn white as the machine pumps and dispenses water into your household container (about 3 or 4 times). When the cycle is complete, all three beverage indicators turn off and the light ring pulses white.
- Empty your household container.
- Repeat steps 1-6 for a total of three times to completely rinse the machine.
- Exit machine maintenance by pressing and holding the brew button for 5 seconds. All three beverage indicator lights turn white, the ring light pulses white, and the capsule holder unlocks. Remove the blank cleaning capsule from the capsule holder and store for future use.
NOTE: If you do not exit the maintenance cycle, the machine will unlock the capsule holder and begin cooling water automatically after 10 minutes.
Finishing Up
Hand wash the drip tray and water tank in warm, soapy water as needed. Wipe down machine surfaces with a clean, damp cloth.
Skipping Maintenance
Although not recommended, you can skip a maintenance cycle any time the alert light turns orange by rotating the beverage selector knob to Espresso and holding the brew button for 5 seconds. The orange light turns off and resets the brew count to zero.
Storage
We recommend running a purge cycle before putting the machine into sleep mode or long-term storage to ensure there is no water in the system.
