What is This?
BLOCK BLOCK BURRITO is an expansion for THROW THROW BURRITO or THROW THROW AVOCADO. You don't have to own both—this expansion can be used with either game.
Preparing the Deck
Throw Throw Burrito
If you are adding this expansion to your copy of THROW THROW BURRITO, remove the 36 Battle Cards (18 Burrito Brawls, 9 Burrito Wars, 9 Burrito Duels) from the THROW THROW BURRITO deck. You won't need them.
The 36 cards in this expansion that have the Burrito Brawls, Burrito Wars, Burrito Duels card back should be shuffled into your THROW THROW BURRITO deck.
Throw Throw Avocado
If you are adding this expansion to your copy of THROW THROW AVOCADO, remove the 36 Battle Cards (18 Double Brawls, 9 Freeze Wars, 9 Legs Duels) from the THROW THROW AVOCADO deck. You won't need them.
The 36 cards in this expansion that have the Double Brawls, Freeze Wars, Legs Duels card back should be shuffled into your THROW THROW AVOCADO deck.
(Each set of 3 matching Battle Cards is still worth 2 points at the end of every round.)
Using the Shields
All rules from THROW THROW BURRITO or THROW THROW AVOCADO still apply in this expansion, but below are some new rules you'll need to know!
During battles, you can use a Tortilla Shield to block or deflect throwables.
If you deflect a throwable and it hits another object (table, chair, floor, etc.), it counts as a MISS. If you deflect a throwable and it hits any player (including yourself), it counts as a HIT.
❌ You Can't
- Throw a Tortilla Shield at another player.
- Hold more than 1 Tortilla Shield at a time.
Ties
If any battle results in a tie because 2 players were hit simultaneously, or if 2 players are tied at the end of either round, resolve the tie with a Duel. Resolve 3 or more player ties using the instructions in your original game.
Setting Up the Table
Set up the table as usual. Then inflate the Tortilla Shields and place them on top of the throwables.
Side View
A diagram shows a table setup. A throwable (Burrito or Avocado) is placed in the center, topped with a Tortilla Shield. Around the table are designated areas for Community Piles and a Personal Draw Pile. The visual emphasizes that each player should have easy access to at least one Shield and one Community Pile.
Block Battles
Take a Tortilla Brawl
When you play 3 matching TAKE A TORTILLA BRAWL Cards, grab both Shields and throw them away from the table (you do not have to throw both Shields in the same direction). The players to your right and left are in a Brawl as soon as you let go of the Shields. Each player should grab a throwable and retrieve one of the Shields. You cannot throw a throwable unless you are holding a Shield. The first player to get hit by a throwable loses the Brawl.
Super Block War
When you play 3 matching SUPER BLOCK WAR Cards, all players at the table (except for you) are immediately in a War. Try to grab a throwable and/or Shield as quickly as possible. FOR THIS BATTLE ONLY, IF YOU BLOCK ANOTHER PLAYER'S THROWABLE WITH A SHIELD, THEY LOSE THE WAR! The first player to get hit by a throwable, or to have their throwable blocked, loses the War.
Split Up Duel
When you play 3 matching SPLIT UP DUEL Cards, pick any 2 players to team up against a single third player. (You can choose yourself to be in the Duel on either side if you'd like.) The single player takes a throwable and a Shield. One team player takes the remaining throwable and the other team player takes the remaining Shield.
The team of 2 stand next to each other while back to back with the single player. All together, the 3 dueling players simultaneously say "3.. 2.. 1.. Duel!" As each number is said, players will take a step away from each other in a straight line, and on "Duel!" they turn and throw.
In a Split Up Duel, the single player can hold a throwable AND a Shield at the same time, but the team players can only hold a throwable OR a Shield. If the single player gets hit first by a throwable, they lose the Duel and take a Burrito Bruise or Avocado Boo Boo. If either of the team players gets hit, they both lose the Duel and each takes a Burrito Bruise or Avocado Boo Boo.
Special Notes for Split Up Duel:
- Playing with 2 Players: Replace the Split Up Duel Cards with the original Duel Cards from your game.
- Not Enough Bruises or Boo Boos: If this battle occurs near the end of the game when there is only 1 Burrito Bruise or Avocado Boo Boo remaining, the team player who gets hit takes it.
Just Shields
Want to add the Tortilla Shields to your copy of THROW THROW BURRITO or THROW THROW AVOCADO?
Set up your game as you would normally without replacing any cards. Then, place the Tortilla Shields face up on top of the throwables. During Brawls and Wars, any player in the battle can grab a Shield and use it to block. During Duels, each player starts with a throwable and Shield.
Combo Game
If you own Throw Throw Burrito AND Throw Throw Avocado, continue reading:
There are Combo Game instructions in Throw Throw Avocado and you can add this expansion to that Combo Game.
Add the 36 cards from this expansion with the specific card back to your Combo Game to form a deck of 156 cards.
Place all 4 throwables (2 Burritos and 2 Avocados) on the table and place the Shields on top of any 2 of them.
If you have more than 6 players, add Avocado Boo Boos to the Burrito Bruises so that the total is equal to the number of players.
You can grab and use the Shields during any battle in the Combo Game.
Additional Rule for Double Up Duel:
In addition to the throwables, the single player gets to start the Duel with 1 Shield and the team players get 1 Shield to share.
