Siemens 948M2DO6DI & 948M2AO4AI Digital and Analog I/O Option Modules
This document outlines the installation, wiring, and specifications for Siemens digital and analog I/O option modules.
Safety Precautions
DANGER / PELIGRO / DANGER / GEFAHR
Hazard of Electric Shock, Explosion, or Arc Flash. Always follow appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe electrical work practices. Ensure all power is turned off before working on the device. Use a properly rated voltage sensing device to confirm power is off. Do not exceed device ratings. Failure to follow these instructions can result in death or serious injury.
The document includes safety instructions in multiple languages (English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese).
Dimensions
Diagram illustrating the physical dimensions of the I/O modules. Key dimensions include a height of 90.5 mm (3.56 in), a width of 22.5 mm (0.89 in), and a depth of 112 mm (4.42 in).
Mounting
4a Panel-mount
Diagram illustrating panel mounting. Steps involve positioning the module, inserting it into the panel opening until it clicks, and tightening mounting screws to 0.5-0.6 N·m (4.4-5.3 in-lb). A maximum of 4 modules can be mounted.
4b DIN-mount
Diagram illustrating DIN rail mounting using a TS35 rail. Steps involve attaching the module to the rail until it clicks, and tightening mounting screws to 0.5-0.6 N·m (4.4-5.3 in-lb). A maximum of 4 modules can be mounted.
Wiring
Digital I/O
Diagram showing the wiring for Digital I/O. Terminal blocks are labeled S1+, S2+, C12, S3+, S4+, C34, S5+, S6+, C56, 16V+, and -/C. Relay terminals (RELAY 1, RELAY 2) with NC, C, and NO configurations are shown, along with LOAD connections. The document explains that each pair of digital inputs can be either meter or externally 'wetted' (excited), providing an example. Two configurations for digital inputs are detailed: 'Externally Wetted' and 'Meter Wetted', illustrating connections to a voltage source or a meter output respectively.
Analog I/O
Diagram showing the wiring for Analog I/O. Terminal blocks A1, A2, A3, A4 are shown for analog signals. Connections for voltage or current sources are depicted. Input impedance is noted as internal. A 'Burden' connection is shown for current outputs. An optional shield terminal is illustrated, with instructions to connect one side to ground, noting it is not internally connected. A note advises that operating temperature must be de-rated when 2 or more analog option modules are attached.
Description and Operation LEDs
Diagrams show the physical layout of the modules with components labeled A through N. A table details the function of each labeled component, including Digital Inputs (A), Whetting Source (B), Module Connection (C), Mounting Screw (D), Sealing Point (E), DIN Mount Clip (F), Digital Output (G), Status LED (H), Digital Input LED (I), Digital Output LED (J), Analog Input LED (K), Analog Output LED (L), Analog Input (M), and Analog Output (N).
The 'Operation LEDs' (H, I, J, K, L) indicate module status:
- Off: Unpowered or no communications; Digital input/output off; No valid analog input/output value.
- On Green: Normal operation.
- Flashing Red: Error detected.
- On: Digital input/output on; Valid analog input/output value.
