  2. Press and hold the push switch while inserting the AC plug back into the power outlet. Continue holding the switch.

  2. Step 2: Configuration - Download the necessary utility and configure the DS-700 using it.
  3. Step 3: Using the USB Devices over Network - Start using the USB devices by connecting them using SX Virtual Link.

Step 2: Configuration

This section explains how to download the necessary utilities and user's manual from the Silex website.

2-1. Downloading the Necessary Items

Access the following URL from the computer you are using to configure the DS-700:

URL: https://www.silextechnology.com/

  1. Go to the Support page and select the product model (DS-700).
  2. Download the following utilities and documents to your computer:
    • Utility: Device Server Setup, SX Virtual Link
    • User's Manual: DS-700 User's Manual, Device Server Configuration guide

2-2. Configuration

By default, the DS-700 is configured to automatically obtain an IP address from a DHCP server. If a DHCP server is installed on your network, further configuration may not be necessary. In such cases, proceed to install SX Virtual Link. If you need to configure the IP address manually or are unsure if a DHCP server is present, follow these steps:

Before proceeding, temporarily disable the firewall function of the computer used for configuration. Refer to the FAQ on the Silex homepage for methods to disable firewalls.

  1. Extract the Device Server Setup file downloaded in step 2-1.
  2. Configure the DS-700 using the Device Server Setup utility according to the instructions in the Device Server Configuration guide (PDF file).

Step 3: Using the USB Devices over Network

The SX Virtual Link is software that enables communication between your computer and USB devices connected to the device server. To use USB devices over the network, you must connect to or disconnect from them using SX Virtual Link.

3-1. Installing the SX Virtual Link

If SX Virtual Link is not installed on your computer, install it by following these instructions:

  1. Extract the SX Virtual Link file downloaded in step 2-1.
  2. Refer to the contained PDF manual (SX Virtual Link Installation) to install SX Virtual Link. The installer may restart your computer after installation. Ensure all other software programs are closed before starting the installation.

3-2. Basic Use of the SX Virtual Link

Starting the SX Virtual Link

Click the application icon [✔] in the task tray or navigate to the Start menu, then select Silex Tools > SX Virtual Link from the app list.

Connecting the USB devices

When using a USB device for the first time, you may need to install its device driver. Refer to the operating manual of the USB device or follow the on-screen instructions after clicking the Connect button in SX Virtual Link.

  1. Select a USB device and click the Connect button [▶️]. The USB device can be connected when its status icon displays [✔].
  2. The Plug and Play function automatically creates the appropriate environment for the selected device. The USB device will be ready to use once the status icon changes to [✔]. Refer to the USB device's operating manual for usage instructions. Only one device can be connected at a time. If a USB device is in use by another computer, its status icon will display [?], indicating it is unavailable.

Note: The USB device can also be connected by selecting and double-clicking it in SX Virtual Link. If a device server is not displayed, click the Refresh button [?]. Do not unplug the USB cable, network cable, or click the Disconnect button [❌] while the USB device is in use.
