DS-K1T501 Work as RS485 Card Reader
This document outlines the steps to connect and configure the DS-K1T501 as an RS485 card reader, working in conjunction with the DS-K2604 access controller.
Device Information
- DS-K1T501SF firmware version: V1.1.0_build180202
- DS-K2604 firmware version: V2.0.4_build180913
Step 1: Set DIP Switch for K1T501SF
Refer to the User Manual for detailed instructions on setting the DIP switches.
DIP Switch Introduction
The DIP switch diagram is as follows:
Diagram: A visual representation of an 8-position DIP switch with positions labeled 1 through 8. The 'ON' indicator is shown above position 1, and 'OFF' is implied for positions 2-8.
Table 7-2 Description of DIP Switch
Icon | Description |
---|---|
■ | Represents 1 in binary mode |
□ | Represents 0 in binary mode |
For example, the binary value for the following status is: 0000 1100.
Diagram: A visual representation of an 8-position DIP switch with positions labeled 1 through 8. Positions 1-4 are shown in the 'OFF' state, and positions 5-8 are shown in the 'ON' state.
Table 7-3 Description of DIP Switch
No. | Description | DIP Switch Status |
---|---|---|
1~4 | Address of RS-485 | 2: Security Module 0: Card Reader |
5 | RS-485 Direction under the Terminal Mode | 1: Upstream; 0: Down Stream |
6 | Working Method | 1: Card Reader; 0: Terminal. |
7 | Wiegand Protocol (available when No. 6 is 1) | 1: Wiegand protocol of 26-bit; 0: Wiegand protocol of 34-bit. |
8 | Matched Resistance (available for RS-485 protocol) | 1: Enable; 0: Disable. |
Example Configuration: To use K1T501SF as RS485 reader 1 (controlling K2604 lock1 entrance), set DIP switch 1 (RS485 address) to ON, DIP switch 5 (RS485 up stream) to ON, and DIP switch 6 (Device work as card reader) to ON.

Step 2: Set RS485 Parameters and Modify Work Mode
Configure the RS485 parameters and adjust the working mode. The initial configuration may differ from the required settings.
Image Description: A screenshot of the iVMS-4200 software interface showing the device management panel. It displays a list of connected devices, including the DS-K1T501. A pop-up window titled 'Modify' is open, showing various configuration settings for the device.
Configuration Settings
The 'Modify' window includes the following relevant settings:
- Serial Port: 1
- Baud Rate: 600 (initial) / 19200 (modified)
- Data Bit: 7Bit (initial) / 8Bit (modified)
- Stop Bit: 1Bit
- Parity: None
- Communication Mode: Half Duplex
- Working Mode: Console (initial) / Console (modified)
- Connection Mode: Connect Card Reader (initial) / Connect Client (modified)
Click 'Save' to apply the changes.
Step 3: Add Card and Person Info and Sync to K2604 Access Controller
Add cardholder information and synchronize it with the K2604 access controller.
Image Description: A screenshot of the iVMS-4200 software's 'Access Control' panel. It shows options to add new permissions, templates, and personnel. The interface allows users to select specific doors or devices for access, with a list of available access control points like 'test_K2604' and 'Door2_K2604' associated with the 'K2604' group.
Permission Management
- Permission Name: e.g., '123'
- Template: e.g., 'Whole Week Template'
- Person Search: Allows searching for individuals.
- Selected Personel: Displays added personnel, e.g., 'Morgen hq/1'.
- Access Control Point/Device: Lists devices like 'test_K2604', 'Door2_K2604', etc., grouped under 'K2604'.
Use 'Add Template' and 'Edit Permission' functions as needed.
Step 4: Test Card and Check Event from iVMS-4200 Software
Verify the card functionality on the K1T501SF and monitor events within the iVMS-4200 software.
Image Description: A screenshot of the iVMS-4200 software's 'Alarm Event' log. It displays a chronological list of events, including timestamps, alarm sources (e.g., 'Access Control Device:K2604 test'), alarm details, and alarm content (e.g., 'test', 'Lock Door', 'Unlock Door', 'Normal Card Authentication Pa...').
