1.0 Introduction

This User Guide provides basic step-by-step installation instructions for these products:

1.1 Before You Begin

CAUTIONS The steps in this guide assume you're familiar with computer terminology and with the safety practices and regulatory compliance required for using and modifying computer equipment.

Disconnect the computer from its power source and from any network before performing any of the steps described in this guide.

Failure to disconnect power, telecommunications links, or networks before you open the computer or perform any procedures can result in personal injury or equipment damage. Some circuitry on the board can continue to operate even though the front panel power button is off.

Follow these guidelines before you begin:

1.2 Installation Precautions

When you install and test the ASUS NUC, observe all warnings and cautions in the installation instructions.

To avoid injury, be careful of:

Observe all warnings and cautions that instruct you to refer computer servicing to qualified technical personnel.

1.3 Observe Safety and Regulatory Requirements

If you don't follow these instructions, you increase your safety risk and the possibility of noncompliance with regional laws and regulations.

1.4 Tools Needed

2.0 Open the Chassis

Using a flat head screwdriver twist the chassis lock a quarter turn to unlock the chassis. Then slide the latch toward the nearest rubber foot, and lift lid up.

3.0 Upgrade System Memory

The ASUS NUC 14 Pro Mini PC NUC14RVH and NUC14RVK has two 262-pin DDR5 SO-DIMM sockets.

To upgrade memory, be sure to select memory modules that meet these requirements:

Find compatible and validated memory modules in the ASUS Qualified Vendor List:

NOTE If you plan to install only one memory module, install it in the lower memory socket. Be aware that system performance may be degraded when running a single memory module.

3.1 Upgrade to Different Memory

  1. Observe the precautions in "Before You Begin" in Section 1.1.
  2. Turn off all peripheral devices connected to the computer.
  3. Turn off the computer and disconnect the power cord.
  4. Remove the computer's bottom chassis cover.
  5. Remove the pre-installed memory module:
    • Gently spread the retaining clips at each end of the memory socket, which causes the module to pop out of the socket (C).
    • Holding the module by the edges, lift it away from the socket, and store it in an anti-static package.
  6. Install the new memory module:
    • Align the small space at the bottom edge of the memory module with the key in the socket.
    • Insert the bottom edge of the module at a 45-degree angle into the socket (A).
    • When the module is inserted, push down on the outer edges of the module until the retaining clips snap into place (B). Make sure the clips are firmly in place (C).

3.2 Install Additional Memory

  1. Observe the precautions in "Before You Begin" in Section 1.1.
  2. Turn off all peripheral devices connected to the computer.
  3. Turn off the computer and disconnect the power cord.
  4. Remove the computer's bottom chassis cover.
  5. Install the additional module:
    • Align the small space at the bottom edge of the memory module with the key on the socket.
    • Insert the bottom edge of the module at a 45-degree angle into the socket (A).
    • When the module is inserted, push down on the outer edges of the module until the retaining clips snap into place (B). Make sure both retention clips are firmly secure.
  6. Reinstall and reconnect any parts you removed or disconnected to reach the memory sockets.
  7. Replace the computer's cover and reconnect the power cord.

4.0 Changing the system storage

The ASUS NUC 14 Pro Mini PC NUC14RVK contains:

The ASUS NUC 14 Pro Mini PC NUC14RVH contains:

5.0 Close the Chassis

After all components have been installed, close the ASUS NUC chassis. ASUS recommends this be done by hand by aligning the chassis bottom cover at roughly a 30 degree angle and then slowly closing until the slide latch clicks closed.

Diagram illustrating the process of closing the ASUS NUC chassis. It shows aligning the bottom cover at approximately a 30-degree angle (A) and then closing it until the latch clicks (B).

5.1 Locking the chassis

To lock the chassis for security, use the flat head screw driver again to turn the chassis lock a quarter turn into the locked position.

Here are the options for keeping device drivers current:

10.0 Operating System Recovery

There's a Windows recovery partition on the ASUS NUC. You can use this partition to Refresh, Reset, or Restore Windows. Here is what each of these actions do:

Refresh

If your PC isn't performing as well as it once did, and you don't know why, you can refresh your PC. This action doesn't delete any of your personal files or change your settings. Refresh does the following:

Reset

If you want to recycle your PC, give it away, or start over with it, you can reset it completely. This process removes everything. Reset does the following:

Restore

If a recently installed app or driver is causing problems with your PC, you can restore Windows back to an earlier point in time, called a restore point. System Restore doesn't change your personal files, but it can remove recently installed apps and drivers.

Caution - Before performing a Refresh or Reset:

To access the recovery media:

If Windows starts If Windows doesn't start
From Windows Start, type Recovery and select Recovery Options.
See Recovery options in Windows 10/11 for complete details on how to use the recovery options.
The recovery process should automatically start. If Recovery doesn't automatically start, attempt to restore system BIOS to defaults and try again.
