Trunk Operation

Opening the Trunk

Ensure shift lever is in P (Park).

Methods:

  • Press button on trunk emblem after unlocking.
  • Press trunk unlock button on remote key/smart key for >1 second.
  • Press button on trunk with Smart Key in possession.
  • With vehicle unlocked, press button on trunk.

Smart Trunk

Trunk opens automatically when smart key is detected within range for >3 seconds.

To enable: Vehicle must be in P (Park). Select "Door/Trunk" in User Settings, then check "Smart Trunk".

Note: Function active after 15 seconds of doors closed/locked and key not detected. Vehicle provides audible/visual alarm.

Smart Key

Functions: Lock, Unlock, Trunk open, Panic.

Driver's door Lock/Unlock: Smart key must be within 28-40 inches from the outside door handle.

Press: Once - Unlock driver door, Twice - Unlock all doors, Third - Lock all doors.

Note: Door lock/unlock settings can be changed via User Settings in the instrument cluster.

Remove mechanical key: Press and hold the release button [A] to remove the mechanical key.

Engine Start/Stop Button

To start: With ignition OFF and foot off brake pedal, press the Engine Start/Stop button.

  • Once: ACC (Accessory) mode.
  • Twice: ON mode.
  • Three times: OFF.

To start the engine in any mode, press the button while pressing the brake pedal.

To shut off the engine: Place shift lever in P (Park) and press the Engine Start/Stop button.

Emergency Situations:

  • Shut off engine while driving: Press engine start/stop button for >2 seconds or 3 times consecutively within 3 seconds.
  • Restart engine while driving: Press engine start/stop button with shift lever in N (Neutral).

Steering Wheel Adjustments

Note: Do not adjust while driving.

  1. Pull the lever [1] down.
  2. Set the angle [2] and distance [3].
  3. Pull the lever [1] up to lock position.

Heated Steering Wheel

Pressing the heated steering wheel button warms the steering wheel. The indicator on the button illuminates. Press again to turn off.

Front Seat Adjustment

Manual Adjustment

  • Forward and backward [1]

Power Adjustment

  • Forward and backward [1]

Headrest Adjustment

To Raise Headrest: Pull headrest up.

To Lower Headrest: Press lock button while pressing down on headrest.

Seat Belt Adjustment (Front seat)

Pull up to raise.

Press button and push down to lower.

Rear Seat Folding

Diagram shows how to fold rear seats.

Seat Controls

Seat Warmer (Front Seats)

Type A/B: Cycle through OFF, HIGH, MIDDLE, LOW with each button press.

Air Ventilation Seats (Front Seats)

Type A/B: Cycle through OFF, HIGH, MIDDLE, LOW with each button press.

Driver Position Memory System

Storing

  1. Adjust seat, mirror, and illumination settings.
  2. Press SET button (one beep).
  3. Press memory button (1 or 2) within 5 seconds (two beeps).

Note: Transmission must be in P (Park).

Recalling

Press the desired memory button (1 or 2) (one beep).

Driver's Main Controls

Outside Rearview Mirror

Use switch to move towards L or R, then use mirror adjustment control switch.

Note: Mirrors automatically fold down in reverse when switch is in L or R position.

Door Lock

Locks/unlocks all doors.

Window Auto Down/Up

Press past detent to fully open/close window.

Power Window Lock Button

Disables power window switches for rear passenger doors.

Child-Protector Rear Door Lock

Lock: Insert key into hole and turn to lock position.

Unlock: Insert key into hole and turn clockwise to unlock position.

Fuel Filler Lid

Check engine oil regularly. Tighten fuel filler cap until one click is heard.

Emergency fuel filler door release: Pull handle on left side of luggage compartment.

Trunk Opening

Ensure shift lever is in P (Park).

Methods:

  • Press button on trunk emblem after unlocking by remote key or smart key.
  • Press button on trunk itself with Smart Key in possession.
  • Note: Trunk can be opened without smart key if vehicle is unlocked.
  • Press and hold trunk unlock button on remote key or smart key for >1 second.
  • Press release button in the vehicle.

Sunroof

Sunshade

Open: Press Rear Button.

Close: Press Forward Button (also closes sunroof if open/vented).

Sliding Sunroof

Open: Slide Sunroof Button rearward (also opens sunshade if not open).

Close: Slide Sunroof Button forward.

Tilting Sunroof

Press Sunroof Button to tilt to vented position (also opens sunshade if not open).

Pull Sunroof Button downward to close sunroof.

Interior Lights

Type A/B:

  • Front Map Lamp [1]: Push switch to turn on/off.
  • Front Room Lamp [2]: Push switch to turn on/off (overhead lamp).
  • Front Door Lamp [3]: Lights turn on when any door is open.

Headlights

Positions: Headlight, Parking light, AUTO, DRL OFF.

Headlight Delay: Headlights stay on for 15 seconds after exiting/locking. Press remote lock button twice to turn off headlights.

Note: Headlight Delay settings can be changed via User Settings.

Turn signals and lane change signals: Flashing headlights.

High beam: Push lever forward.

Smart High Beam Function:

  1. Select AUTO on stalk.
  2. Push lever forward for Auto High beam.
  3. Push lever forward again to disengage.

Note: To turn off high beam, pull lever towards you.

Wipers and Washer

Wiper Settings: MIST (Single wipe), OFF, INT (Intermittent), LO (Low speed), HI (High speed).

Intermittent Wipe Time Adjustment: Move the control switch.

Windshield Washer: Pull lever gently towards you to spray fluid and run wipers 1-3 cycles.

Instrument Cluster

Type A/B displays:

  • [1] Hybrid system gauge
  • [2] Speedometer
  • [3] Hybrid battery SOC (State of Charge) gauge
  • [4] Fuel gauge
  • [5] Warning and indicator lights
  • [6] LCD display (including Trip computer)

LCD Display Modes

  • Trip Computer: Displays driving info (tripmeter, fuel economy).
  • Turn By Turn (TBT): Displays navigation status.
  • SCC/LDWS: Displays Smart Cruise Control and Lane Departure Warning System status.
  • A/V: Displays Audio Visual system status.
  • Information: Displays service interval and warning messages.
  • User Settings: Changes settings.

Controls: [1] MODE button, [2] MOVE switch, [3] SELECT/RESET button.

Warnings and Indicators

This section lists various warning and indicator lights and their meanings (e.g., Ready indicator, Air bag warning light, ABS warning light, Low fuel level warning light, etc.).

Instrument Panel Illumination: Press - or + to adjust brightness.

Hybrid System Modes

Access via INFO button, then Hybrid button.

  • Vehicle On: VEHICLE ON indicator illuminated.
  • EV Mode: Indicates vehicle is operating in Electric Vehicle Mode.
  • Eco Guide: Displays ECO driving status.
  • Hybrid Service Indicator: Illuminates if there's a Hybrid System problem. Contact dealer.

System Screens:

  • ECO Driving: Displays driving economy based on ECO Level bars.
  • Energy Flow Mode: Shows energy flow from engine and battery.
  • Fuel Economy Mode: Displays average fuel economy over the last 30 minutes.

Climate Control

Type A/B/C: Features temperature control knobs, AUTO, OFF, Fan speed, A/C, SYNC, Defroster buttons, Air intake control, ECON button, Driver Only button.

Defogging/Defrosting:

  1. Press defrost button.
  2. Select warmest temperature.
  3. Set fan speed to highest.

System Off:

Pressing OFF turns system off. Climate control fan stops, outside air selected, vented air at set temperature.

ECON Button:

Reduces A/C performance for better fuel consumption.

Note: Keep windshield clean for visibility. Select outside air position when possible.

Air Intake Control:

Options: Recirculated air position, Outside (fresh) air position.

Automatic Heating/Air Conditioning:

Controls modes, fan speeds, air intake, and AC automatically.

Max A/C Mode:

Engages recirculated air. Blower directs air to floor vent for 8 seconds after ignition.

Bluetooth® Phone Pairing

Phone setup (pairing phone) with Audio/Navigation:

Steps: Press SETUP, select Phone, select Pair Phone, search for device, input passkey.

Note: Vehicle must be parked.

To switch phones: Setup > Bluetooth > Bluetooth Connections > Connect.

Steering Wheel Audio Control

  • [1] VOLUME: Adjusts speaker volume.
  • [2] SEEK/PRESET: Changes station.
  • [3] MODE: Changes audio source.

Bluetooth® Operational Tips

Tips for clear calls: Keep volume low, avoid rough roads/open windows, ensure AC vents don't blow directly at the microphone.

Steering Wheel Bluetooth® Control

  • [1] TALK: Activates voice recognition.
  • [2] CALL: Places and transfers calls.
  • [3] END: Ends calls or cancels functions.

To Answer/Reject Call: Press [TALK] button.

To Adjust Ring Volume: Use VOLUME buttons.

To Transfer Call to Phone (Private): Press and hold [TALK] button.

To End Call: Press [END] button.

Making a Call Using Voice Recognition

Calling by Name: Press [TALK] button, say "Call <John Smith>" or "Call <John Smith> on <Mobile/Office/Home>".

Dialing by Number: Press [TALK] button, say "Dial Number", then say the phone number.

Voice Recognition Tips:

Performance may be affected by open windows/sunroof, HVAC system, tunnels, or rough roads.

Display Audio / Navigation

Power On: Press POWER button [A].

Tuning/Listening: Press RADIO button [B], rotate TUNE knob [C].

Note: Clear southern sky for XM® reception.

Setting Preset Memory Buttons: Press and hold preset button [D] until beep.

Adjusting Sound Control: Press SETUP [E], select "Sound", then "Sound Setting".

AUX, USB and iPod Port

Connect external audio devices to listen through the vehicle's audio system.

Clock Adjustment

1. Press SETUP button. 2. Touch "Date/Time" button.

Android Auto™

Requirements:

  • Micro USB cable
  • Android™ 5.0+ OS
  • Compatible Android Phone
  • Data and wireless plan

Before You Begin:

Features may differ from phone. Message/data charges apply. Performance depends on phone. Close apps or restart phone if issues occur. Use provided micro USB cable. In-vehicle voice recognition is disabled; use "talk to Google™".

Phone Setup:

Turn on Bluetooth, connect USB cable. Phone prompts for app downloads (Google Maps™, Google Play Music™, Google Now™).

Note: Vehicle must be parked. Set Location mode to High accuracy.

Car Setup:

1. Press SETUP. 2. Touch "Connectivity". 3. Select "On" for Android Auto. 4. Connect phone, agree to prompts. "Android Auto" icon appears.

Apple CarPlay™

Requirements:

  • Apple Lightning® cable
  • Latest iOS
  • iPhone® 5 or above
  • Data and wireless plan

Before You Begin:

Features may differ from phone. Message/data charges apply. Performance depends on phone. Close apps or restart phone if issues occur. Use provided Apple Lightning cable. In-vehicle voice recognition is disabled; use Siri®.

Phone Setup:

On phone: Settings > General > Restrictions > CarPlay (allow access). Settings > General > Siri (ensure ON).

Car Setup:

1. Press SETUP. 2. Touch "Connectivity". 3. Touch "iOS", then "On" to enable. 4. Connect iPhone, touch 'OK'. Apple CarPlay icon appears.

CarPlay Home Screen

Icons: [1] HOME ICON, [2] WIRELESS CONNECTIVITY, [3] CELLULAR SIGNAL, [4] PHONE TIME, [5] PHONE, [6] APPLE MUSIC™, [7] APPLE MAPS, [8] MESSAGES, [9] 3RD PARTY APPS, [10] SCREEN PAGE INDICATOR, [11] EXIT TO HYUNDAI, [12] CURRENT CARPLAY AUDIO PLAYING.

Siri:

Initiate Siri session by holding HOME icon [1] or pressing steering wheel VOICE RECOGNITION button [13]. Ensure Siri is ON in phone settings.

Commands: "Text <John Smith> 'Call you later'", "Read text messages", "Call <John Smith>", "Find <POI/Destination>".

Phone:

Touch PHONE icon [5]. Siri asks who to call. Use Lightning cable for best sound quality.

Apple Music:

Touch APPLE MUSIC icon [6].

Apple Maps:

Touch APPLE MAPS icon [7].

Messages:

Touch MESSAGES icon [8]. Siri asks to hear unread messages or create new ones.

3rd Party Apps:

Supported apps appear on screen. Touch icons to access.

Note: Supported apps list at http://www.apple.com/ios/carplay/.

Driving: Electric Parking Brake (EPB) & Auto Hold

Electric Parking Brake (EPB):

Applying: Stop vehicle, pull up EPB switch.

Releasing: Move shift lever from P to R or D while depressing brake pedal, OR press EPB switch while depressing brake pedal.

Note: Emergency braking possible by pulling and holding EPB switch.

Auto Hold:

Keeps vehicle stopped when brake pedal is released. Brakes release automatically when accelerator pedal is pressed.

Operation:

  1. Press AUTO HOLD switch [WHITE].
  2. Stop vehicle by pressing brake pedal (brake remains engaged).
  3. Brake releases when accelerator is pressed (in D, R, or manual mode).

To cancel, press AUTO HOLD switch again.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)

Low Tire Pressure Indicator / TPMS Malfunction Indicator: Illuminates if tires are under-inflated or if TPMS malfunctions.

TPMS Malfunction Indicator: Blinks then stays illuminated if malfunction. Inspect tires, adjust pressure. If lamp remains, see dealer.

Low Tire Pressure Position Indicator (LCD Display): Shows tire pressures. Illuminates if pressure drops below specification.

Driving: Automatic Transmission & ESC

Automatic Transmission:

Shifting: Press shift button, move lever. Or depress brake, press button, move lever. Or just move lever.

Sport Mode: Move shift lever from D to manual gate. Move forward (+) to upshift, rearward (-) to downshift.

Electronic Stability Control (ESC):

Helps maintain vehicle control. Automatically ON when engine starts.

To turn off Traction Control: Press and hold ESC OFF button until "Traction Control Disabled" appears.

To turn off Traction and Stability Control: Press and hold ESC OFF button for >3 seconds until "ESC Disabled" appears.

Driving: LDWS & BSD

Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS):

Detects lane departure and warns driver if speed is over 37mph.

To turn ON/OFF: Press LDWS switch.

Blind Spot Detection System (BSD):

Uses radar to alert driver of rear side territory.

Features: Blind Spot Detection, Lane Change Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

To turn ON/OFF: Press BSD button.

Note: System activates if speed exceeds 20 mph.

Rear Cross Traffic Alert:

Provides alert if vehicle approaches from sides when transmission is in R (Reverse).

Driving: Rearview Camera & Parking Assist

Rearview Camera:

Displays area behind vehicle when transmission is shifted to R (Reverse).

Rear Parking Assist System:

Assists during reverse movement by chiming if object is sensed within 47 inches behind vehicle.

To turn OFF: Push button (indicator light turns on).

Drive Mode Integrated Control System

Select drive mode (ECO, Normal, Sport) based on preference or road condition. System initializes to ECO mode.

  • ECO mode: Improves fuel efficiency by reducing acceleration, shift points, and AC performance.
  • Normal mode: Standard operation.
  • Sport mode: Enhances driving dynamics, steering feel, engine/transmission responsiveness.

Cruise Control / Smart Cruise Control

Program vehicle to maintain constant speed without holding accelerator.

  • [1] On/Off Cruise Control.
  • [2] Resume or Increase speed.
  • [3] Set or Decrease speed.
  • [4] Cancel Cruise Control.

Setting Vehicle Distance (Advanced Smart Cruise Control only):

System sets and maintains distance from vehicle ahead. Distance [1] activates when cruise speed [2] is set. Distance changes with each press of the vehicle distance set button (Distance 1-4).

Note: To revert to standard cruise control, press Cruise Control button, then press and hold vehicle distance button for >2 seconds.

Hybrid Driving Tips

Tips for fuel economy: Check tire pressure, roll windows up, maintain vehicle, turn off climate control during cold start.

Set headlight switch to AUTO or OFF when not in use to preserve hybrid battery charge.

Set climate control to ECON mode.

Try to drive in ECO zone and maintain EV Mode indicator illumination.

Suggestions for fuel economy:

  • Drive smoothly.
  • Accelerate at moderate speed.
  • Maintain speed with traffic to prevent unnecessary adjustments.
  • Maintain safe driving distance to avoid unnecessary braking.

Sonata Hybrid Customer Delivery Check List

Before Delivery: Set tire pressure, verify vehicle condition (clean, no chips/scratches), clean windshield/back window, ensure floor mats are snapped in place.

Note on TPMS: Tire pressure may vary in cold temperatures. Inflate tires per label on driver's side door pillar.

Bluetooth® Hands-Free

Connecting Your Phone:

On Radio: SETUP > Bluetooth > Bluetooth Connection > Add New.

In Phone's Bluetooth Settings: Select Vehicle Name, enter passkey or authorize.

Switching Paired Phones:

Voice Command: "Change Bluetooth device".

On Radio: SETUP > Bluetooth > Bluetooth Connection > Connect next to desired phone.
