Connections

Front Panel:

  • HDMI (with audio symbol '+')

Connecting Your Player

HDMI Connection: Connect the player to your TV using an HDMI cable for both video and audio signals.

COAXIAL Connection: Connect the player to an audio system (e.g., soundbar or receiver) using a coaxial cable for audio output.

Powering On and Initial Setup

  1. Power Connection: Connect the player to a wall socket using the power cable. [Power Symbol]
  2. Remote Control Setup: Insert 2 x AAA batteries into the remote control.
  3. Power On: Press the power button [Power] on the player.
  4. Source Selection: Press the [SOURCE] button on the remote control and select the correct input source on your TV.

Playing Discs and USB Devices

Disc Compatibility

This player supports various disc formats:

USB Playback

Connect a USB storage device to play MP3, JPEG, DivX, and MKV files.

Remote Control Overview

The remote control allows you to operate all functions of the player. Key buttons include:

  • Power [⏻]: Turn on or switch to standby.
  • Home Menu [?]: Access the main menu.
  • Subtitle: Select subtitle language.
  • Audio: Select audio language or channel.
  • Disc Menu [DISC MENU]: Access or exit the disc menu.
  • Top Menu: Access the main menu of a video disc.
  • Navigation Buttons (▲▼◀▶): Navigate menus.
  • OK: Confirm selection or entry.
  • Return [←]: Return to the previous menu.
  • Options [≡]: Access more options during playback.
  • Stop [■]: Stop playback.
  • Play/Pause [▶/||]: Start or resume playback, or pause.
  • Skip [ / ]: Skip to the previous or next track/chapter/file.
  • Fast Forward/Backward [ / ]: Fast forward or backward through content.
  • Color Buttons: Select tasks or options specific to Blu-ray discs.

Playback Options

Video, Audio, and Picture Settings

Access various options during playback:

  • Video Options: [Video Camera Symbol]
    • [Audio language]: Select audio language.
    • [Subtitle Language]: Select subtitle language.
    • [Subtitle shift]: Adjust subtitle position.
    • [Info]: Display playback information.
    • [Character set]: Select character set for DivX subtitles.
    • [Time search]: Skip to a specific time.
    • [2nd audio language] / [2nd Subtitle Language]: For discs supporting BonusView.
    • [Titles], [Chapters], [Angle list], [Menus]: Navigate disc content.
    • [PIP selection]: Picture-in-Picture options for BonusView.
    • [Zoom]: Zoom into video.
    • [Repeat]: Repeat chapter or title.
    • [Repeat A-B]: Set custom repeat points.
    • [Picture settings]: Select predefined color settings.
  • Picture Options: [Picture Symbol]
    • [Rotate +90] / [Rotate -90]: Rotate images.
    • [Zoom]: Zoom into pictures.
    • [Info]: Display picture information.
    • [Duration per slide]: Set slide interval.
    • [Slide animation]: Select transition effects.
    • [Picture settings]: Select color settings.
    • [Repeat]: Repeat a selected folder.
  • Audio Options: [Audio Symbol]
    • Repeat current track.
    • Repeat all tracks.
    • Random loop for audio tracks.
    • Turn off repeat mode.

DivX Videos

Play DivX videos from discs or USB devices. For DivX Video-On-Demand (VOD), register your player at www.divx.com using the DivX VOD code found in the player's setup menu ([Setup] > [Advanced] > [DivX® VOD Code]). Ensure subtitle files (.srt, .sub, .txt, .ssa, .smi) have the same name as the video file.

Musical Slideshow

Play music and pictures together. Play a music file, navigate to the picture folder, select pictures, and press [OK] to start the slideshow. Press [Stop] to stop.

BonusView on Blu-ray

View special content (like commentaries) in a secondary window on Blu-ray discs that support BonusView (Picture-in-Picture). During playback, press [Options], select [PIP selection] > [PIP], and press [OK]. You can then select [2nd audio language] or [2nd Subtitle Language].

Network Features

BD-Live

Access online services like movie trailers and games on BD-Live enabled Blu-ray discs. This requires an active internet connection and a USB storage device to store downloaded content.

Setting Up a Network

Connect your player to the internet for BD-Live features and software updates.

  • Wired Connection: Connect a network cable (not supplied) to the LAN port on the rear panel.
  • Wireless Connection: Use an optional Philips Wi-Fi USB adapter (e.g., WUB1110, sold separately). Visit shop.philips.com or contact Philips customer service for purchase.

Follow the on-screen instructions for network installation via [Setup] > [Network] > [Network installation].

Caution: Familiarize yourself with network principles before connecting. Philips is not responsible for data loss or corruption.

Philips EasyLink

This player supports Philips EasyLink, which uses HDMI CEC protocol. This allows control of connected EasyLink-compliant devices with a single remote. Features include One Touch Play (automatically switches TV input) and One Touch Standby (player enters standby when TV does).

Changing Settings

Picture Settings

  • Press [Setup].
  • Navigate to [Setup] > [Video].
  • Options include: [TV display] (picture format), [HDMI video] (resolution), [HDMI Deep Color], and [Picture settings] (color presets).

Sound Settings

  • Press [Setup].
  • Navigate to [Setup] > [Audio].
  • Options include: [Night mode] (adjusts volume for quiet or dynamic sound), [HDMI Audio] format, [Digital Audio] format, and [PCM Downsampling].

Network Settings

  • Press [Setup].
  • Navigate to [Setup] > [Network].
  • Options include: [Network installation] (wired or wireless setup), [View network settings], and [View wireless settings].

Preference Settings

  • Press [Setup].
  • Navigate to [Setup] > [Preference].
  • Options include: [Menu language], [Audio] language, [Subtitle] language, [Disc menu] language, [Parental control] (restrict disc access by rating), [Screen saver], [Auto subtitle shift] (for compatible Philips TVs), [Change password], and [Display panel] brightness (for BDP2930 only).

Advanced Options

  • Press [Setup].
  • Navigate to [Setup] > [Advanced].
  • Options include: [BD-Live security], [Downmix mode], [Software update], [Clear memory] (deletes BD-Live downloads), [DivX® VOD Code] display, [Version information] (software version), and [Restore default settings].

Software Updates

Check the current software version via [Setup] > [Advanced] > [Version information].

Update via Internet

  1. Connect the player to the internet.
  2. Navigate to [Setup] > [Advanced] > [Software update] > [Network].
  3. Follow on-screen instructions to download and install the update. The player will restart automatically.

Update via USB

  1. Download the latest software from www.philips.com/support.
  2. Unzip the downloaded file and place the "UPG_ALL" folder in the root directory of a USB storage device.
  3. Connect the USB device to the player.
  4. Navigate to [Setup] > [Advanced] > [Software update] > [USB].
  5. Follow on-screen instructions.

Caution: Do not turn off the player or remove the USB device during an update, as this may damage the player.

Troubleshooting

General Issues

  • Buttons on player do not work: Disconnect power for a few minutes, then reconnect.

Picture Issues

  • No picture: Ensure TV is on the correct input source.
  • No picture on HDMI: Check HDMI cable for faults. Try pressing [Power] then '731' on the remote to recover display, or wait 10 seconds for auto-recovery. Ensure the display device is HDCP compliant.
  • Disc does not play HD video: Ensure the disc contains HD content.

Sound Issues

  • No audio output from TV: Ensure TV is on the correct input source.
  • No audio from external speakers: Ensure the audio device is on the correct input source.
  • No sound on HDMI: The connected device might not be HDCP compliant or is DVI-compatible.
  • No secondary audio for Picture-in-Picture: If [Bitstream] is selected for [HDMI Audio] or [Digital Audio], disable it.

Playback Issues

  • Cannot play a disc: Clean the disc, ensure it's loaded correctly, check disc compatibility and region code. For DVD±RW/DVD±R, ensure the disc is finalized.
  • Cannot play DivX video files: Ensure the DivX video file is complete and has the correct file extension.
  • DivX subtitles not displaying correctly: Ensure the subtitle file has the same name as the video file and a supported extension (.srt, .sub, .txt, .ssa, .smi).
  • Cannot read USB storage: Ensure the USB device format and file system are supported. An external power source may be needed for HDDs.
  • 'No entry' or 'x' sign displayed: The operation is not possible.

Network and Connectivity Issues

  • EasyLink not working: Ensure the player is connected to a Philips EasyLink TV and the feature is enabled.
  • Cannot access BD-Live: Ensure the player is connected to the network, network installation is complete, and the Blu-ray disc supports BD-Live. Clear memory if necessary.
  • Wireless network not found/distorted: Ensure the network is correctly connected and installed. Avoid interference from microwave ovens or DECT phones. Try a wired connection if wireless issues persist.
