Product Overview

The Walther CP99 Compact is a CO2-powered air pistol designed for shooting steel BBs. It features a .177 (4.5mm) caliber and can achieve velocities up to 345 feet per second (fps).

General Warnings and Cautions

⚠️ WARNING: This airgun is recommended for adult use only. Misuse or careless use may cause serious injury or death. It may be dangerous up to 300 yards (275 meters). This is a high-powered airgun for use by those 16 years of age or older. Read all instructions before using. The purchaser and user should conform to all laws governing the use and ownership of airguns.

⚠️ WARNING: This gun can cause serious injury or death. Read and follow the instructions carefully. Do not load a BB into the gun until you are ready to shoot. If you do load a BB and then decide not to shoot, remove it either manually or by shooting the gun at a safe target. An unloaded gun which is "ON SAFE" is safest. Accidents happen fast; fatally wounding someone is a terrible thing. Please shoot safely.

Guns differ in their operation, and you are never ready to fire any gun until you are thoroughly familiar with it. Read the following operating instructions thoroughly prior to operating.

1. Learning the Parts of Your Airgun

Learning the names of the parts of your new airgun will help you understand your owner's manual. Use this manual to increase your enjoyment of this airgun.

Diagram Description (Fig. 1): The airgun features a front sight and a rear sight for aiming. The slide can be moved back to cock the action. The muzzle is where the BB exits. The trigger guard protects the trigger. The trigger is used to fire the pistol. The safety mechanism, located on the side, is used to prevent accidental firing. The magazine release lever detaches the magazine. The grip houses the CO2 cylinder and magazine. The magazine holds the BBs. The slide stop holds the slide open. The backstrap provides access to the CO2 cylinder. The piercing knob secures and pierces the CO2 cylinder.

2. Operating the Safety

⚠️ WARNING: Be sure the gun is always pointed in a safe direction. Never point the gun at anyone, even if it is unloaded. Always assume and handle the gun as if it were loaded and ready to fire.

2A. To Put the Airgun "ON SAFE"

• Locate the safety on the right side of your air pistol.
• Push the tabs back and hold.
• Push the safety down until it covers the red dot (Fig. 2A). The safety is not "ON SAFE" unless it is pushed all the way down and the RED dot is NOT showing.

Indicator: "S" for "ON SAFE" (Safety lever is down).

CAUTION: Like all mechanical devices, an airgun safety can fail. Even when the safety is "ON SAFE", you should continue to handle the airgun safely. Never point the airgun at any person. Never point the airgun at anything you do not intend to shoot.

CAUTION: Do not pull the trigger with the safety "ON SAFE". This will load a projectile into the barrel.

2B. To Take the Airgun "OFF SAFE"

• Locate the safety on the right side of your air pistol.
• Push the tabs back and hold.
• Push the safety up (Fig. 2B). When you can see the RED dot, the airgun is "OFF SAFE" and can be fired.

Indicator: "F" for "OFF SAFE" (Safety lever is up, red dot is visible).

3. Removing and Installing CO2 Cylinders

3A. Installing a New CO2 Cylinder

• Put the air pistol "ON SAFE" (See Step 2A).
• Remove the backstrap (Fig. 3).
• Turn the piercing knob on the bottom of the grip following the arrow towards OPEN until you hear gas start to escape.
• Before installing a CO2 cylinder, place one drop of RWS Chamber Lube on the top of the small end of the CO2 cylinder.
• Insert the new CO2 cylinder into the air pistol with the small neck of the CO2 cylinder toward the top and inserted first (Fig. 4).
• Tighten the cylinder into place by turning the brass wheel screw clockwise (up) until secure.
• Place the backstrap back on the pistol.
• Turn the piercing knob on the bottom of the grip all the way in the direction of the power arrow.
• Aim the air pistol in a SAFE DIRECTION.
• Take "OFF SAFE" (See Step 2B).
• Cock the air pistol by pulling the slide all the way back to the rearward position and releasing it, allowing it to move forward.
• When the hammer is cocked, a red dot will appear indicating the gun is cocked and ready to fire (Fig. 5).
• Make sure the gun is pointed in a safe direction. Pull the trigger to fire the pistol.
• If the air pistol does not make a popping noise after pulling the trigger, the CO2 is not being discharged. In that event, put the air pistol "ON SAFE" (See Step 2A), turn the knob on the bottom of the grip towards OPEN, tighten the brass retaining screw clockwise until snug, replace the backstrap, and turn the knob following the power arrow.

Note: Never try to force any CO2 cylinder into or out of place. Do not store your air pistol with a CO2 cylinder in it. If you know you will not be using your air pistol for an extended period of time, empty the CO2 cylinder and remove it from the air pistol (See Step 3B). This is very important to remember, as it will prolong the longevity of your air pistol seals.

3B. Removing a CO2 Cylinder

• Put the air pistol "ON SAFE" (See Step 2A).
• Remove the BB magazine from the air pistol (see Step 4A).
• Turn the piercing knob on the bottom of the grip towards OPEN, until you hear gas start to escape, being careful not to come in contact with the escaping gas.
• Continue turning the knob towards open.
• Remove the backstrap.
• Drop out the CO2 cylinder.

CAUTION: Keep hands and face away from the CO2 cylinder. Escaping CO2 gas is very cold and can cause serious injury to you.

⚠️ WARNING: Use only 12g CO2 cylinders. Any attempt to use other types of gas cylinders could be extremely dangerous and could result in serious injury or death. Gases other than CO2 could result in an explosion or rupture of the gun.

4. Loading and Unloading BBs

4A. Loading BBs

• Put the airgun "ON SAFE" (See Step 2A).
• Point the airgun in a SAFE DIRECTION.
• Remove the magazine by pressing down on the magazine release lever (Fig. 6).
• Locate the BB follower (Fig. 7) on the side of the magazine. Pull the BB follower down and push into the slot at the bottom until it locks in place.
• Insert up to 17 BBs into the lower hole on the back of the magazine (Fig. 7).
• Gently release the BB follower tab.
• Insert the loaded magazine into the air pistol.

Your gun is now loaded and ready to fire only after reading the entire manual, including section 7 on reviewing safety.

⚠️ WARNING: Once the BB magazine is loaded with a BB, it is considered to be loaded. Use extreme caution when handling the gun. Keep the gun pointed in a safe direction. Never point the gun at anyone. Always treat the gun as if it were loaded and ready to fire.

CAUTION: Use only .177 caliber steel BBs. Do not attempt to reuse fired BBs or BBs which are deformed. Do not use lead pellets, buck shot, darts, ball bearings, or other foreign objects because they can cause injury to you or someone else or may damage and/or jam the gun. Use of anything other than .177 caliber steel BBs will void the warranty.

4B. Unloading BBs

• Put the airgun "ON SAFE" (See Step 2A).
• Point the airgun in a SAFE DIRECTION.
• Remove the magazine by pressing down on the magazine release lever.
• Pull and hold down the BB follower tab.
• Tip the magazine until all the BBs fall out of the hole.
• If a BB is still visible in the top of the magazine, push the BB out of the magazine using a .177 caliber ramrod.
• Aim the air pistol in a SAFE DIRECTION, take it "OFF SAFE" (See Step 2B) and fire.
• Repeat this procedure several times until you are sure you are no longer firing BBs.

Note: The air pistol must be charged with CO2 when following these steps, but remember, do not store your air pistol with a CO2 cylinder in it (See Step 3A).

CAUTION: Even though you go through the unloading procedure, continue to treat the air pistol as though it were loaded. Do not point at anything you do not intend to shoot.

4C. Removing a Jammed BB

IMPORTANT: Firing the air pistol with too little gas pressure left may cause a BB to get stuck in the barrel.

• Make sure the air pistol is "ON SAFE" (See Step 2A).
• Unload all of the BBs (See Step 4B).
• Remove the magazine by pressing down on the magazine release lever.
• Remove the CO2 cylinder (See Step 3B).
• Insert a .177 caliber ramrod into the muzzle end of the barrel and carefully push the jammed BB into the breech. The barrel could be damaged if the proper sized ramrod is not used.
• Hold the air pistol upright and shake until the jammed BB falls out.
• Do not try to reuse that BB. If you are not able to unjam your air pistol by following this procedure, take no further action. Call Umarex USA (479)-646-4210 and ask for the service department.

5. Aiming and Firing Safely

You and others with you should always wear shooting glasses to protect your eyes.

Always aim your air pistol in a SAFE DIRECTION. When you are sure of your target and backstop, and the area around the target is clear, cock the air pistol (See Step 4B), take "OFF SAFE" (See Step 2B), and squeeze the trigger to fire.

Do not shoot at hard surfaces or at the surface of water. The BB may bounce off or ricochet and hit someone or something you had not intended to hit.

Always choose your target carefully. It is best to shoot at paper bullseye targets, which are attached to a safe backstop. A heavy blanket should be hung behind the target trap to prevent ricochet should you miss the backstop.

Your backstop should be checked for wear before and after each use. Replace your backstop if the surface is worn or damaged, or if a ricochet occurs.

Your air pistol is designed for target shooting and is suited for both indoor and outdoor use. Always remember to place your target carefully. THINK about what you will hit if you miss the target.

Sight Alignment (Fig. 8): The air pistol is correctly aimed when the front sight blade is positioned exactly in the notch of the rear sight. The top of the front sight blade should be even with the top of the notch in the rear sight. The bullseye should appear to rest on the top of the front sight.

• Too High: Front sight appears too low in the rear sight notch.
• Too Low: Front sight appears too high in the rear sight notch.
• Perfect: Front sight is centered and aligned with the rear sight notch.

CAUTION: Your backstop should be inspected for wear before and after each use. Discontinue use if the backstop surface shows signs of failure. Always place the backstop in a location that will be safe should the backstop fail. Discontinue the use of a backstop if the projectile rebounds or ricochets. NEVER AIM AT PEOPLE, PETS OR WATER.

6. Use and Handling of CO2 Cylinders

Certain conditions can affect CO2 cylinder performance, including usage, maintenance, and storage at temperatures outside the normal outdoor range (59°F/15°C to 69.8°F/21°C). Rapid firing can also impact performance.

1. High Temperatures: Can increase pressure in the CO2 cylinder and gun, leading to higher operating pressure. This excess pressure could cause malfunction or permanent damage. Maximum storage or operation temperature should never exceed 122°F (50°C). Avoid exposing the gun to high temperatures or direct sunlight for long periods, as the CO2 cylinder could overheat and explode, potentially damaging the airgun and causing injury or death.
2. Rapid Consecutive Shooting: May decrease temperature in the gun and CO2 cylinder, resulting in lower projectile velocities and potentially preventing the pistol from firing. This is more apparent in cold weather. Allow more time between shots to let the gas increase in temperature and pressure for normal velocities.
3. Rapid Fire: Muzzle velocity of each shot will diminish, affecting accuracy and reducing the number of shots per CO2 cylinder.
4. Low Pressure Indicators: Care should be exercised to ensure the gun is not shot with a CO2 cylinder that is low in pressure. Indicators include:
   • A) The sound of the shot is not as loud as when the cylinder is full.
   • B) The projectile hits the target, but in a lower position than it would with a full CO2 cylinder (shooting speed has dropped).

⚠️ WARNING: A CO2 cylinder contains gas under pressure, whether or not it has been inserted into a gun. If exposed to high temperatures (such as inside a closed car and/or in direct sunlight), it could explode. Store all cylinders in a cool place.

CAUTION: Never attempt to reuse a CO2 cylinder for any purpose.

7. Maintaining Your Airgun

Before performing maintenance, ensure the gun is "ON SAFE", unloaded, and the CO2 cylinder has been removed (See Step 2A and 4B).

• Your air pistol will maintain proper function for a long time if you oil the slide rails with 1 drop of RWS Spring Cylinder Oil after firing approximately 250 shots.
• DO NOT use a petroleum distillate based oil or solvent and DO NOT over-oil, as this can cause damage to your air pistol.
• Apply 1 to 2 drops of RWS Spring Cylinder Oil onto all other moving parts, such as the BB follower and gas cylinder screw.
• Clean the surface of your CO2 air pistol with a soft cloth and RWS Spring Cylinder Oil.
• Tampering with the air pistol or attempts to change it in any way may make it unsafe to use and will void the warranty.
• If you drop your air pistol, check to see that it works properly before using it again. If anything seems changed, like a shorter or weaker trigger pull, this may mean worn out or broken parts. Call Customer Service at Umarex USA for assistance before using your air pistol again.

CAUTION: Before any care, cleaning, or maintenance, always be sure your air pistol is "ON SAFE" and unloaded. It is important to maintain your airgun properly.

Note: Many factors affect airgun performance and velocity, including brand of projectile, type of projectile, lubrication, barrel condition, and temperature.

8. Reviewing Safety

• Never point the airgun at any person or at anything you do not intend to shoot.
• Always treat the airgun as though it is loaded and with the same respect you would a firearm.
• Always aim in a SAFE DIRECTION. Always keep the muzzle of the airgun pointed in a SAFE DIRECTION.
• Always keep the airgun "ON SAFE" until you are ready to shoot.
• Always check to see if the airgun is "ON SAFE" and unloaded when getting it from another person or from storage.
• Always keep your finger off the trigger and out of the trigger guard until ready to shoot.
• You and others with you should always wear shooting glasses to protect your eyes. If your reading or prescription glasses are not safety glasses, make sure you wear shooting glasses over your regular glasses.
• Use the proper size BB for your airgun.
• Never reuse ammunition.
• Do not shoot at hard surfaces or at the surface of water. The BB may bounce off or ricochet and hit someone or something you had not intended to hit.
• Place the backstop in a location that will be safe should the backstop fail. Your backstop should be checked for wear before and after each use. All backstops are subject to wear and will eventually fail. Replace your backstop if the surface is worn or damaged or if a ricochet occurs.
• Do not attempt to disassemble or tamper with your airgun. Unauthorized repairs or modifying the function of your airgun in any way may be unsafe and will void your warranty.
• Before you store your airgun, make sure it is unloaded, the CO2 cylinder is removed, and it is "ON SAFE".

⚠️ WARNING: A gun that is not operating properly may be dangerous. It should be kept safely from use by anyone until repaired or destroyed. Do not try to take the gun apart. It is difficult to reassemble, and improper disassembly or reassembly can cause serious injury or death.

CAUTION: The components of this gun were engineered and manufactured to deliver optimum performance. Any modification or tampering with a gun may cause a malfunction, void your warranty, and may make it unsafe to use. Any change in performance (such as a lowered trigger pull force and shortened trigger travel) indicates possible modification, tampering, and/or wear. Such gun should be inspected, replaced, or properly repaired by only qualified Umarex USA personnel. Any gun that has been dropped should be checked by qualified personnel to ensure that its function has not been affected.

This product is warranted to the retail consumer for 90 days from date of purchase against defects in material and workmanship and is not transferable.

Shipping charges to Umarex USA for defective product and damages caused by abuse or failure to perform normal maintenance, as well as any other expense. Warranty Claims and Repair for U.S. and Canadian customers only. Call Umarex USA (479)-646-4210 and ask for the Service Department. If it is determined a return is necessary, you will be issued a Return Authorization Number. Write this number boldly on the box and return the product prepaid to Umarex USA. Your name, address, phone number, and a note explaining the defect found must be included in the package. A copy of the original purchase receipt must accompany the return. Include a check made to Umarex USA in the amount of $9.95 to cover shipping and handling.

Implied Warranties

Any implied warranties, including the implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose, are limited in duration to 90 days from date of retail purchase. Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above limitations may not apply to you. To the extent any provision of this warranty is prohibited by federal, state, or municipal law which cannot be preempted, it shall not be applicable. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state and country to country.
