Step 1: Check Vehicle Compatibility
Most vehicles manufactured in 1996 or newer in the USA are equipped with an OBD-II port. Ensure your vehicle is compatible. The GD201 device is not compatible with electric (EV) or plug-in hybrid vehicles. Some diesel vehicles may not provide complete fuel data.
Step 2: Download The App
The GD201 DRIVE app is available for free on the Apple App Store and Google Play. Ensure your phone is running the latest operating system version and meets the minimum technical requirements.
Tip: Make sure you are running the latest version of your operating system and that your phone meets the minimum technical requirements to run the app.
Step 3: Create Your Account
Launch the GD201 DRIVE app on your phone. Tap 'Sign Up' on the home screen and follow the on-screen prompts to create your account. You will need to verify your mobile phone number via SMS. This should be your personal mobile number, not the number associated with the GD201 device.
Tip: If you already have a GD201 DRIVE account, use your existing credentials to 'Sign In'.
Step 4: Scan The IMEI Barcode
Each GD201 device has a unique 15-digit IMEI code, which is also presented as a barcode on a sticker on the device. Use the GD201 DRIVE app to scan this barcode when prompted. Alternatively, you can enter the IMEI code manually.
Tip: Do not plug the device into your car until prompted by the app in Step 7.
Step 5: Locate Your OBD-II Port
The OBD-II port is typically found under the driver's side dashboard, usually within 18 inches of the steering wheel. The GD201 app can assist you in locating the port.
Tip: Tap the flashlight icon in the GD201 DRIVE app to use your smartphone's flashlight while searching for the OBD-II port.
Step 6: Install Your Device
Once you have located the OBD-II port, align the GD201 device with the port and plug it in firmly. The device should fit securely.
Tip: Avoid installing the device in underground parking lots or areas with weak cellular coverage, as it needs a strong connection for initial setup.
Step 7: Go For A Drive
The device requires a cellular connection and GPS lock to complete setup. Take your vehicle for a 10-minute drive. The GD201 app will notify you once a successful connection is established. Remember, distracted driving is dangerous; do not use your phone while driving.
Tip: Do not unplug the device within the first 24 hours after installation.
Step 8: Roadside Assistance
The GD201 device includes roadside assistance from Allstate® Motor Club for qualifying mobile Internet plans. Access 24/7 roadside services by calling the provided toll-free hotline or by requesting help through the 'Menu' in the SyncUP DRIVE™ app.
Note: Roadside Assistance is included only with qualifying mobile Internet plans for the in-car device.
