IPMule IP-TX101: Quick Start Guide

IP Down Co-ax, Alarm or Telephone Cable

IPMule is a registered trademark of System Q Ltd.

This document provides essential information for setting up and using the IP-TX101 IP Mule, a device designed to extend network connectivity over existing coaxial, alarm, or telephone cables. It is particularly useful for IP cameras and other network devices.

Introduction

The IP-Mules (model IP-TX101) facilitate the creation of a network connection using coaxial, alarm, or telephone cables. This allows for the transmission of data for IP cameras or other network devices over longer distances or existing cable infrastructure.

Multiple IP cameras can be connected and managed through a single cable by utilizing several IP Mule units. Refer to the transmission distance tables and connection diagrams for bandwidth and connection limitations.

Connections & Controls

Front Panel

The front panel features:

  • IPMule Logo
  • COAXIAL port
  • LAN port
  • Co-ax Out Port

Back Panel

The back panel includes:

  • DC12V IN port (for power input)
  • LAN port
  • SLAVE/MASTER switch (to configure the unit's role)
  • LAN In Port

Installation

  1. Configure Switch: Set the switch on the IP-TX101 to 'Master' for the unit connected to the network switch or router. Set the switch to 'Slave' for the unit connected to a camera or other network device.
  2. Connect Cables: Connect the coaxial cable, CAT5, or other two-core cable to the IP-Mules. Multiple IP-Mules can be daisy-chained together using either:
    • A coaxial cable with a BNC T-piece connector.
    • A CAT5 or other multi-core cable with a suitable adapter, such as the Zulug BNC adaptor CON380.
  3. Power Up: Power the IP-Mules using a 12V DC power supply connected to the 2.1mm DC socket. The current consumption is approximately 250mA.
  4. Connection LEDs:
    • Coaxial LED: A solid LED indicates a cable connection between a slave and master IP-Mule.
    • LAN LED: A flashing LED indicates an IP device is connected and active.

Connection Diagrams

Coax Cable Setup

This diagram illustrates how to connect IP-Mules using coaxial cables. Each IP-Mule unit (configured as 'Slave') is connected to a 'Master' IP-Mule or directly to the network switch/router via a coaxial cable. The setup typically involves BNC T-piece connectors, allowing for daisy-chaining. The 'Master' unit connects to the network switch or router, while 'Slave' units connect to devices like IP cameras.

CAT5/6 Or Alarm Cable Setup

This diagram shows the connection method using CAT5/6 or alarm cables. Similar to the coax setup, 'Slave' units connect to 'Master' units or the network. Important: For these cable types, the first core must be connected to the positive terminal and the second core to the negative terminal on every connector in the chain.

Transmission Distances
