1. Introduction
1.1 Safety Instructions
The ZGEMMA H9S is designed and manufactured in compliance with EU consumer safety requirements (CE). Please read the following safety precautions carefully:
- Connecting Power: This product operates only in the range of AC 100V ~ 250V and 50Hz/60Hz. Ensure your power supply fits this range. Disconnect from the mains before any maintenance or installation. Ensure the power cord is easily accessible for emergency unplugging.
- Overloading: Do not overload wall outlets, extension cords, or adapters to prevent electrical fire or shock.
- Liquid: This product is not water-proof and should not be exposed to dripping, splashing, or any liquid. Do not place liquid-filled objects on the product. Do not clean with a wet cloth, as this may cause a short circuit. Keep wet objects away from the product.
- Ventilation: Allow sufficient space between the product and other objects for air ventilation. Do not block the top or rear of the product, as this can lead to high temperatures and product failure. Do not stack other electronic devices on top of the product. Do not insert pointed objects into ventilation holes, as this will damage the product.
- Connecting the Satellite Cable: Disconnect the product's power before connecting the satellite cable to prevent damage to the LNB.
- Grounding: The LNB must be earthed to the system earth for the satellite dish.
- Location: Place the product indoors. Do not expose to rain, sun, or lightning. Do not place near heat appliances. Ensure at least 10 cm distance from electrical devices and walls.
- Lightning, Storm or Not In Use: Unplug the product and disconnect the antenna cable during thunderstorms or lightning, especially when left unattended for long periods. This prevents damage from power surges.
- Replacement of Parts: Unauthorized part replacements by unqualified technicians may damage the product. Ensure qualified technicians perform replacements using manufacturer-specified components.
- Hard Disk Drive: Do not move the product or turn off the power suddenly while the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) is running, as this may damage the HDD and the system. The company is not liable for data corruption on the HDD caused by user misuse.
- Battery: Danger of explosion if batteries are incorrectly replaced. Replace batteries only with the same or equivalent type.
Disposal "WEEE" Symbol Instructions: This product should not be disposed of with household waste. Separate it from other wastes and recycle responsibly to promote sustainable reuse of material resources, preventing harm to the environment and human health.

1.3 Product Descriptions
Front Panel
- 1. "Air" logo LED
- 2. IR Receiver: Receives the IR signal from the remote controller.
Rear Panel
The rear panel features the following connections:
- 1. DC Power Jack: Connect the provided AC/DC adapter (12V/1.0A).
- 2. Power Switch: Press to turn the power on/off.

1.5 Remote Control
The remote control provides access to all functions of the ZGEMMA H9S. Key functions include:
- POWER: Turns the product on or standby.
- SLEEP: Sets the product's sleep timer.
- TV: Displays the TV channel list.
- AUDIO: Selects available audio language and audio type.
- SUBTITLE: Displays the subtitle of the current channel if available.
- Color Keys (RED, Green, Yellow, Blue): Assigned specific functions that may vary by menu.
- Recording [ ] / STOP [ ] / Play/Pause [ ]: Controls media recording and playback.
- TIMER [G]: Views the Timer Schedule.
- Previous Program [ ] / Next Program [ ]: Navigates between previous and next programs.

- Volume +/-: Adjusts audio volume.
- MUTE: Mutes or unmutes the audio.
- RADIO: Displays the Radio channel list.
- HELP: Displays major operation methods for a quick guide.

- FAV: Shows the Favorite Lists.
- MENU: Accesses the main menu.

- OK: Confirms selected menu options.
- Navigation Keys: Navigate menus up/down and left/right.

2. INSTALLATION OF ZGEMMA H9S
This chapter guides you through the installation process of the ZGEMMA H9S. Please read each section carefully to ensure the system runs properly.
2.1 Connecting the TV
The ZGEMMA H9S offers various audio/video connection methods. HDMI connection is recommended for the best picture quality. If your television lacks an HDMI connector, use the AV connector. Configure audio and video settings after connecting the digital receiver.
2.1.1 Connecting TV via HDMI cable
For the best picture quality, especially for digital TV, HDMI connection is recommended. Most HDTVs have HDMI connectors. The ZGEMMA H9S rear panel has one HDMI connector. Connect your TV to the ZGEMMA H9S using an HDMI cable as follows:

2.2 Connecting Power
A power adapter is provided. Follow these steps:
- Connect the power adapter to the DC IN connector on the rear panel of the ZGEMMA H9S.
- Connect the power adapter to a power outlet.
- Turn on the power switch on the rear panel.
NOTE: AC input condition
- Nominal Voltage Range: 100 - 240 VAC
- Maximum Voltage Range: 90 - 264 VAC
- Nominal Frequency: 50/60 Hz
- Maximum Frequency Range: 47 - 63 Hz
NOTE: ? means Remote control operation order.
2.3 Power On/Off
- Power On/Off: Press the POWER key or navigate to Menu > Select Standby/Reset.
- Complete Power Shutdown: Press the power switch to completely shut down the power.
- Standby Mode: The POWER key is normally used to turn the ZGEMMA H9S on or off. Pressing POWER instantly switches the unit off or on. The system is not completely shut down, allowing for quicker startup.
- Deep Standby Mode: Navigate to Menu > Standby/Restart > Deep Standby. This mode reduces standby power consumption to under 1W, designed for energy efficiency.
3. FIRST TIME INSTALLATION (USING WIZARD)
Upon first power-on after purchase, an installation wizard will guide you through the setup process. Use the OK key for confirmation and to proceed to the next step. Use the EXIT key to return to the previous page.
3.1 Video Input Selection

3.3 Language Selection
The ZGEMMA H9S supports multiple languages. Use the UP/DOWN keys to scroll and select your preferred language for the On-Screen Display (OSD).

4. BASIC OPERATIONS
4.1 Switching Channels
You can switch channels using the following methods:
- UP/DOWN keys: Pressing these keys brings up the Channel Selection menu, allowing you to navigate and select a channel.
- LEFT/RIGHT keys: Tune to the previous or subsequent channel.
- CHANNEL +/- keys: Calls up the Channel Selection menu.
- Numeric Keys: Enter the channel number directly for instant tuning.
NOTE: If channel change fails, it might be due to encryption requiring a smartcard.
Adding channels to Favourites:
- Call up the Channel Selection list (UP or DOWN key).
- Go to the 'All channels' list (RED key).
- Select the desired channel.
- Press MENU, select "add service to bouquet", then press OK.
- Select "Favourites" and press OK.
- Confirm the channel is in the Favourites list (BLUE key).
4.2 Volume Control
Adjust the audio volume using the VOLUME +/- keys. Press the MUTE key to temporarily mute or unmute the audio. The mute icon indicates when audio is muted.
4.3 Selecting Audio Track
Press the AUDIO key to view available audio tracks. Use UP/DOWN and Color keys to select different audio languages or stereo sound.
NOTE: Available options may vary depending on the service.
4.4 Subtitle
Press the SUBTITLE key to display subtitles if the program provides them. Use UP/DOWN keys to navigate the subtitle list and press OK to activate your selection.
4.5 Teletext
Press the TEXT key to access Teletext information. Use UP/DOWN keys or enter the page number to navigate. The MUTE key toggles between live mode and Teletext. VOLUME +/- keys adjust the page size.
4.6 Program Information
Press the INFO key to display the infobar, which provides comprehensive channel information for 5 seconds (default).
4.7 Info Bar
Press OK to call up the infobar.
4.8 Electronic Program Guide (Event View)
Press the EPG key to display the Electronic Program Guide, showing program information by time and date. Four options are available in the EPG display. Press and hold EPG for Multi-EPG.
GREEN (Add Timer): Press the GREEN key to access the Timer entry menu for setting up new timers for recording or zapping.

4.9 Time Shift
Press the Time Shift key to instantly pause the program. A window displays the elapsed time. Press PLAY or PAUSE again to resume. Press the key to stop Timeshift and return to live mode. Timeshifted recordings are not stored on HDD and cannot be replayed.
4.10 Recording
The ZGEMMA H9S features an integrated DVB-T2/C tuner for recording. Two methods are available:
1. Instant Recording
Press the REC key to start recording. Options include:
- Add recording (stop after current event)
- Add recording (indefinitely)
- Add recording (enter recording duration)
- Add recording (enter recording end time)
- Exit
2. Recording by Timer
Navigate to MENU > Select Timer. Use color keys for functions: RED (Delete), GREEN (Add), YELLOW (Disable/Enable). BLUE (Cleanup) removes finished timers.
NOTE: Ensure sufficient HDD space for recording. Insufficient space may cause recordings to stop prematurely.
3. Stop Recording
Press the REC key and select "Stop Recording".
4.11 Recording Play
Press the FILE LIST key to view recorded files. Select a file to play. The infobar displays recording information: Title, Remaining time, Progressive bar, and Elapsed time.
4.12 Managing Recording Files
In the Recorded files menu, press MENU and select "Delete" to remove recording files. Confirm with OK.
4.13 Media Player
Navigate to MENU > Plugins > Media Player. Enjoy music, photos, and videos from external HDD or USB. Select a file and press OK to play. Supported formats include JPG, MP3, AVI, M3U, etc. Recording files can also be played.
4.14 Plug-ins
The ZGEMMA H9S has a 10/100Mbps Ethernet port. Use this for network connectivity to download plug-ins. Navigate to MENU > Plugins to access the plugin browser. Press GREEN to download the list of available plug-ins. Select a plug-in to download and check its status in the browser.
4.15 Sleep Timer
Navigate to MENU > Power Management > Sleep Timer. Set a specific time for the ZGEMMA H9S to enter Standby or Deep Standby mode. Use color keys: RED (Enable/Disable Sleep Timer), GREEN (Choose Standby/Deep Standby), YELLOW (Confirmation before shutdown), BLUE (Use time of currently running service).
5. MENU
5.1 TOP Main
The ZGEMMA H9S offers a variety of system settings. The main menu includes:
- Timer
- Information: Submenus for Service (current channel info) and About (H/W and S/W system info).
- Plugins: Activates the plugin browser for downloading new plugins.
- Setup: Accesses all System Settings.
- Power Management: Options for power on/off and sleep timer.
5.2 Setup
The Setup menu includes:
- 1 System Settings
- 2 Service Searching
- 3 Common Interface
- 4 Parental Control
- 5 Factory Reset
- 6 Software Update
5.2.1 System Settings
5.2.1.1 Audio/Video
Navigate to MENU > Setup > System Settings > Audio/Video to configure audio and video settings. RED is for cancel, GREEN is for OK. The OK key on the RCU may not function in this mode.
Video output: Select the desired video output (e.g., HDMI).
Resolution: Choose the desired video resolution.
Downmix: Set to YES to down-mix audio to Stereo, or NO to disable. Recommended for S/PDIF connection.
5.2.1.2 Other settings
Navigate to MENU > Setup > System Settings > Other Settings for various customization options. Settings can be displayed in Simple, Intermediate, or Expert formats.
5.2.1.3 Network Setup
Navigate to MENU > Setup > System Settings > Network Setup to configure network settings. Options include:
- Adapter settings: Use Interface (YES to activate Ethernet), Use DHCP (YES for automatic IP, NO for manual IP).
- Nameserver settings: Enter Nameserver address if DHCP is not used.
- Network test: Test network configuration.
- Restart Network: Reboot the Ethernet.
5.2.1.4 Language Selection
Navigate to MENU > Setup > System Settings > Language to select the OSD language.

5.2.1.5 Time zone
Navigate to MENU > Setup > System Settings > Timezone to set your time zone. Use LEFT/RIGHT keys to select and GREEN to save.
5.2.1.6 Hard Disk Set Up
Navigate to MENU > Setup > System Settings > Hard drive > Hard drive Setup to set the HDD standby duration. Press GREEN to confirm.
5.2.2 Service Searching
5.2.2.1 Tuner Configuration
If you performed the First Time Installation, Tuner A is already configured.
5.2.2.2 Automatic Scan
Navigate to MENU > Setup > Service Searching > Automatic Scan. Options include:
- Clear Before Scan: YES to delete existing channels, NO to keep them.
- Scan Tuner A (DVB-S2X): Press OK to start the scan. This may take several minutes.
5.2.2.3 Manual Scan
Navigate to MENU > Setup > Service Searching > Manual Scan for manual service searching. Parameters include:
- Tuner: Select the tuner.
- System Settings: Choose between DVB-S and DVB-S2.
- Frequency: Enter transponder frequency.
- Symbol Rate: Enter symbol rate.
- Modulation: Select 64QAM or 256 QAM Auto.
- FEC (Forward Error Correction): Enter FEC value.
- Network Scan: YES to scan based on existing and new TP data, NO for existing TP data only.
- Clear Before Scan: YES to delete existing channels, NO to keep them.
- Only Free Scan: YES to scan only Free to Air channels, NO to scan all FTA and CAS channels.
Press OK to activate the manual scan.
5.2.3 Parental Control
Navigate to MENU > Setup > Parental Control to prevent unauthorized channel access. Set parental control to YES. You can change the PIN code and protect services by PIN. Options include White list (block all except listed channels) and Black list (block listed channels).
Change service pin: Define a PIN code for changing services in the parental control list. Use a different PIN from the one used for Protect services.
5.2.4 Factory Reset
Navigate to MENU > Setup > Factory Reset to erase all installed service lists and configurations. Select YES to proceed. The ZGEMMA H9S will reboot and start the First Time Installation process. All configuration data will be erased.
5.2.5 Software Update
Update software via Menu > Setup > Software Update or USB update.
USB Update Steps:
- Download new software image from http://www.zgemma.tv.
- Extract the image using winrar/winzip and copy to a USB stick's root directory.
- Power down the ZGEMMA H9S.
- Insert the USB stick into the rear USB slot.
- Press and hold the Reset key, then power on. Release the key when the USB Driver LED flashes. The upgrade will complete in about 1 minute, and the ZGEMMA H9S will reboot automatically.
5.3 Information
5.3.1 Service Information
Navigate to MENU > Information > Service to view service information like service name, provider, and video format/size for the current channel.
5.3.2 Checking H/W & S/W Information
Navigate to MENU > Information > About to check system information: S/W version, detected NIMs for Tuner, and detected HDD.
Use SD card to record and play media file
1. Record movie and
- Insert micro SD card: Insert the card with the symbol facing up.
- Record: Press the RCU record key. The display shows recording status. Press the RCU record key again to stop recording.
- Stop record: Press the RCU record key again to stop the recording.
2. Play media file
Press RCU menu key, select PLUGINS...MEDIA PLAYER...PAREENT DERECYORY...MEDIA...HDD. Select the file and press OK to play.
3. Can't record channel
- Path question: If the record path is incorrect, the channel will not be recorded. Change the path via MENU...SETUP...RECORDINGS & TIME SHIFT...RECORDING SETTINGS...DEFAULT MOVIE LOCATION. Select HDD or MMCBLK0P1 and press GREEN to confirm.
- USB free space: Insufficient free space on the USB will prevent recording.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Before contacting customer support, please review these tips:
NOTE: Antenna issues due to weather (snow, rain) can affect audio/video quality. Check antenna orientation and LNB condition.
- 1. No video on TV: Check power, video cable connection, satellite cable connection, channel status (on air, encrypted), and smartcard access.
- 2. Problem with audio quality: Check audio cable, volume levels, and audio output settings.
- 3. Remote control problem: Check batteries, ensure the remote is pointed at the product, and that the front panel display is not blocked.
- 4. Channel search problem: Verify tuner configurations and antenna cable connections.
- 5. Encrypted channel viewing problem: Ensure you have the correct Smartcard/CAM. Re-insert them. Check system detection.
- 6. Recording problem: Check HDD space and timer conflicts.
- 7. Noise: A noise may be heard when the HDD is running.
