Introduction
Waves mobile apps enhance flexibility and efficiency for setting up and managing live sound events. These applications connect to the SoundGrid host application via a private, dedicated Wi-Fi network.
Waves Mobile Apps Overview
MyMon
Allows each musician to control a dedicated auxiliary mix. Compatible with eMotion LV1 and SoundGrid Studio. Works on phones and tablets.
MyFOH
Provides basic remote control over the eMotion LV1 mixer for the Front of House (FOH) engineer. Compatible with eMotion LV1. Available on tablets only.
mRecall
Enables remote recall of pre-programmed Scenes and Snapshots. Compatible with eMotion LV1, SuperRack, and Waves CA Products. Works on phones and tablets.
Waves Mobile Apps Configuration
In a typical setup, artists control their monitor mixes independently of the FOH mixer. Scenes and snapshots can be recalled remotely, and certain mixer functions can be controlled from the FOH position, allowing the engineer to check and adjust the mix from anywhere in the venue.
Diagram Description: Illustrates the Waves Mobile Apps Configuration. A Waves Host Application (1) is connected to a WiFi Router (2). The router then connects to three mobile devices: MyFOH (3) on a tablet, mRecall (4) on a phone, and MyMon (5) on another phone. The setup is shown in the context of a live band performance, with musicians and a stage box, demonstrating how artists can control their monitor mixes and the FOH engineer can manage the overall mix remotely via these apps.
Setup and operation are identical across all Waves mobile apps. This guide uses eMotion LV1 as an example; follow the same steps when setting up mobile apps with SuperRack or SoundGrid Studio.
Setting Up
eMotion LV1 Setup (Perform First)
- Run a dedicated Ethernet cable from the LV1 host computer to the Wi-Fi router. This connection provides control information for the mobile apps Wi-Fi network; no audio passes over it. Do not run the mobile apps network over the SoundGrid network. If the host computer lacks a second Ethernet port, use a USB-to-Ethernet adaptor. While placing the Wi-Fi router at the FOH position is possible, it is recommended to place it closer to the mobile clients.
- Launch eMotion LV1 and navigate to Setup Window > System Inventory Page > Controls column.
- Click an empty Control slot, then select "MyRemote" from the menu. The MyRemote icon will appear. You can open the MyRemote control panel by clicking the Gear button. A single MyRemote Control module facilitates simultaneous communication between the host and all three mobile apps.
Mobile Apps Network Setup
- Install your chosen Mobile App (MyMon, MyFOH, mRecall) from the respective app store:
- Android phone/tablet users: Google Play Store
- iPhone/iOS tablet users: App Store
- Establish and password-protect your Wi-Fi network. Share the Wi-Fi network name and password with all mobile clients. Users can then connect their mobile devices to this network and launch the app.
- The app will detect the Host computer. Select the found host and click "Connect".
- The MyRemote control panel in the host displays the names of newly connected mobile devices and the apps used to connect to the mobile apps network.
Image Description: A screenshot of the 'MyRemote Control Panel' within the Waves host software (e.g., eMotion LV1). It displays a list of connected mobile devices, their status (e.g., 'Clear Disconnected', '<<->>'), the Mix Bus they are controlling (e.g., 'Fx 1', 'Mix EQ'), and the type of app they are running (MyMon, MyFOH, mRecall). Sample connected devices include 'Val's S21', 'Vals iPad', and 'Galaxy A51'.
