LatteGo After each use Rinse under tap or wash in dishwasher.

Brew Group Lubrication

Lubricate the brew group every 2 months for smooth operation.

  1. Apply a thin layer of grease to the piston (grey part) (Fig. 34).
  2. Apply grease around the axle (grey part) at the bottom (Fig. 35).
  3. Apply grease to the rails on both sides (Fig. 36).

AquaClean Water Filter

The AquaClean filter preserves coffee flavor and reduces descaling frequency. Purchase filters at local retailers, authorized service centers, or online at www.philips.com/parts-and-accessories.

AquaClean Icon and Indicator

The AquaClean indicator (Fig. 41) shows filter status.

  • Flashing Orange: Filter needs replacement or activation.
  • Solid Blue: Filter is active.
  • Orange Off: Filter can still be activated, but the machine may need descaling first.

Activating the AquaClean Water Filter (5 min.)

The machine does not automatically detect filter installation. You must activate each new filter using the AquaClean icon.

Before activation, the machine must be completely free of scale.

  1. Ensure the machine is powered on.
  2. Shake the filter cartridge for about 5 seconds (Fig. 42).
  3. Submerge the filter upside down in cold water, shake, and keep it submerged (Fig. 43).
  4. The filter is now ready for insertion into the water tank.
  5. Insert the filter vertically into the filter connector in the water tank and press down firmly (Fig. 44).
  6. Fill the water tank with fresh water and replace it.
  7. Remove LatteGo if attached.
  8. Place a bowl under the hot water dispenser/milk frother.
  9. Press and hold the AquaClean icon for 3 seconds (Fig. 45). The power indicator will flash.
  10. Press the power button ▶■ to start activation.
  11. Hot water will dispense for 3 minutes.
  12. When activation is complete, the blue AquaClean indicator will light up.

Replacing the AquaClean Water Filter (5 min.)

After 95 liters of water, the filter stops working. The AquaClean indicator will flash orange, reminding you to replace it. You can replace the filter without descaling first while it flashes. If the orange light turns off, you can still replace the filter, but descaling is required first.

When the orange AquaClean light flashes:

  1. Remove the old AquaClean filter.
  2. Install a new filter and activate it as described in "Activating the AquaClean Water Filter (5 min.)".

Replace the AquaClean filter at least every 3 months, even if the machine does not indicate it.

Deactivating AquaClean Reminders

If you no longer wish to use AquaClean filters, you can disable the reminders:

  1. Turn off the machine.
  2. With the machine off, press and hold the AquaClean icon until its indicator light turns on. The power indicator will flash.
  3. Touch the AquaClean icon again to disable reminders. The icon light will turn off.
  4. Press the power button ▶■ to confirm.
  5. Turn the machine back on. Reminders are now disabled.

Note: Activating a new AquaClean filter will automatically re-enable reminders.

Adjusting Water Hardness

Adjusting water hardness optimizes performance and machine lifespan, reducing the need for frequent descaling. The default setting is 4 (hard water).

Use the provided test strip to determine your region's water hardness:

  1. Immerse the test strip in tap water or hold under the tap for 1 second (Fig. 46).
  2. Wait one minute. The number of squares that turn red indicates water hardness (Fig. 47).

Set the machine to the appropriate water hardness:

  1. Turn off the machine.
  2. With the machine off, press and hold the aroma strength icon until all its indicators light up (Fig. 2).
  3. Press the aroma strength icon 1, 2, 3, or 4 times. The number of illuminated lights should match the number of red squares on the test strip (Fig. 48). If no squares are red (all green), select 1 light.
  4. Once set, press the power button ▶■.

The aroma strength function is used for setting water hardness only once. It does not affect the aroma intensity of your drinks.

Descaling Procedure (30 min.)

Only use Philips descaler. Using other descalers (sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, sulfamic acid, vinegar) can damage the machine and void the warranty. Non-Philips descaler use also voids the warranty.

Purchase Philips descaler solution at www.philips.com/coffee-care.

Descale the machine when the Calc/Clean indicator lights up.

  1. Ensure the machine is on.
  2. Remove LatteGo or milk frother if attached.
  3. Remove and empty the drip tray and grounds container, then replace them.
  4. Remove and empty the water tank. Remove the AquaClean filter.
  5. Pour one full bottle of Philips descaler solution into the water tank, then fill with water up to the Calc/Clean level (Fig. 49). Replace the tank.
  6. Place a large container (1.5L) under the coffee and hot water dispensers.
  7. Press and hold the Calc/Clean icon for 3 seconds, then press the power button ▶■.
  8. The first phase (descaling) begins, lasting about 30 minutes, including a rinse cycle. The Calc/Clean indicator flashes during descaling.
  9. Let the machine dispense the descaler until the display indicates the water tank is empty.
  10. Empty, rinse, and refill the water tank with fresh water to the Calc/Clean level.
  11. Empty the container and place it back under the dispensers. Press the power button ▶■.
  12. The second phase (rinsing) begins and lasts three minutes. Control panel lights will flash during rinsing.
  13. Wait until the machine stops dispensing water. Descaling is complete.
  14. The machine reheats. When beverage icons are lit, it's ready.
  15. Install and activate a new AquaClean filter (see "Activating the AquaClean Water Filter").

Tip: Using the AquaClean filter reduces the need for descaling!

What to Do if the Descaling Procedure is Interrupted

You can interrupt descaling by pressing the power button. If interrupted before completion:

  1. Empty and rinse the water tank thoroughly.
  2. Refill the water tank with fresh water to the Calc/Clean level and turn the machine on. It will heat up and perform an automatic rinse cycle.
  3. Before preparing drinks, perform a manual rinse cycle: dispense half a tank of hot water by touching the icon multiple times, then prepare two cups of coffee using ground coffee without adding coffee grounds.

If descaling was not completed, the machine will require another descaling procedure as soon as possible.
