Frequently Asked Questions

I have to utilize a Linux system with this gadget. Is “middle-click” supported by this mouse? (that is, functions like a 3-button mouse)?

Under Ubuntu 16.4, it performs just as a three-button mouse should in that operating system. The wheel, all three buttons, and even the “forward/back” buttons on the far left side of the screen operate as they should, allowing users to go back and forth across documents or web pages just like they would in a window.

Does the trackball have to be used, or can the mouse be moved independently?

Your right thumb is used to operate the mouse ball. Your other four fingers rest on the mouse’s other side, which features a scroll button in addition to a left and right clicker. A volume control button is also present. The mouse’s actual body NEVER needs to move. I adore this so much. 4 of these are mine. I have separate ones for my laptops and each of my computers. They are wireless and incredibly ergonomic, making them the most comfortable mice I have ever used.

Is there any software required to use it or can I just take it out of the box? My laptop is a Toshiba, and it runs Windows 8.

You may use this on Windows 8 without any additional software, as others have stated. The programmer works perfectly after being downloaded from the Logitech website and installed on my Windows 8.1 laptop (64-bit). I can check the battery level from the mouse control panel and set up alternate actions for the different buttons thanks to the Logitech software that has been installed.

Can someone tell me the M570’s precise footprint because I don’t have much room on my keyboard tray?

It measures 5.5″ at its longest and 3 7/8″ at its widest. About 2.5″ wide is the lower tongue. This mouse is amazing since you can navigate without moving it at all, which saves space.

Does the bottom of it have a red laser light? Would using it on my lap be secure?

Since it is a trackball and not a mouse, there will be no light at all when you use it on your lap because the sensor is hidden below the blue ball.

Is this mouse the best choice for PC games?

You can play these games just as well using this mouse once you get used to it. Simply put, it depends on how accurate your thumb is. I enjoy it.

If I use this for only one set of computers, does it operate without the unifying receiver? I would detest it if it constantly took up a USB port.

No, a USB receiver is required.

Can both left- and right-handed people use this?

It is made for right-handed use, as previous commenters have mentioned, with the thumb controlling the ball and the first two fingers on the other controls. But it doesn’t imply it can’t be utilized in other ways. I’ve been using a trackball with my left hand for a while even though I’m right-handed. I like to divide the labour, so to speak, to lessen the strain on either wrist because I frequently use the numeric keypad on the right side of my keyboard. My left hand’s fingers on the ball and thumb on the keys took me about a week to get used to, but it eventually seemed natural.

How challenging is using a trackball?

When using the trackball for the first time, your thumb will be working out some new muscles. Never give up! As a result, the first two days of use will be awkward and tiresome for your thumb. Your thumb muscles will get stronger on the third day, and you’ll find that your mouse cursor is more accurate. You will start to wonder after a week or two why anyone uses a mouse that you have to manoeuvre with your hand. With a trackball, you can position the pointer wherever you like, it won’t move, and you have much better control over it.
