2.1GHz 8-core Xeon D-1541 CPU, 2x 10GBase-T + 2x 1GbE built-in, PCIe x16 expansion (2/4-port 10GbE SFP+ card supported), 16GB DDR4 ECC — a data-center-class 1U appliance distinct from the desktop-class SG-1100/SG-2100/4100/6100/8200 already seeded. Netgate docs: "Username: admin / Password: pfsense... Browse to https://192.168.1.1 to access the web interface," with a standing warning to change it immediately.

Recovery & reset instructions

Data-center-class appliance; factory-default recovery is via the console/serial procedure in Netgate's documentation, not a front-panel reset button.

NetgateNetgate 4100Modem / gateway · Webhttp://192.168.1.1 (opens in a new tab)adminpfsense

1U desktop security gateway: dual-core Intel Atom C3338R, 2x 1GbE + 4x 2.5GbE flexible WAN/LAN ports, 4GB RAM, runs pfSense Plus, no Wi-Fi — the entry model above the SG-2100. Genuine static default admin/pfsense confirmed in the official initial-configuration docs; pfSense Plus 24.03+ forces a password change on first login.

Recovery & reset instructions

At the console/serial menu choose option 4 'Reset to factory defaults', or use Diagnostics > Factory Defaults in the pfSense GUI; LAN reverts to 192.168.1.1. Browse there and log in with admin/pfsense.

NetgateNetgate 6100Modem / gateway · Webhttp://192.168.1.1 (opens in a new tab)adminpfsense

Mid-tier rack appliance in the 4100/6100/8200 family: a quad-core Atom CPU, two 10-Gigabit SFP+ uplinks, a pair of combo 1GbE ports and four 2.5GbE ports feed 8GB of RAM running pfSense Plus. Netgate's own initial-configuration docs confirm the shared factory login admin/pfsense; pfSense Plus 24.03 onward requires replacing that password before continuing.

Recovery & reset instructions

Boot to the serial console and pick 'Reset to factory defaults', or from the pfSense GUI go to Diagnostics > Factory Defaults — either path drops the LAN interface back to 192.168.1.1 for the admin/pfsense login.

NetgateNetgate 8200Modem / gateway · Webhttp://192.168.1.1 (opens in a new tab)adminpfsense

Flagship of the trio: eight Atom C3758R cores, two 10-Gigabit SFP+ ports, two combo 1GbE ports and four 2.5GbE ports back a 16GB RAM budget for pfSense Plus, well ahead of the 4100/6100 in throughput. Netgate's official initial-configuration guide lists the same factory credential as the rest of the line — admin/pfsense — with pfSense Plus 24.03+ requiring an immediate change.

Recovery & reset instructions

Restore factory settings via the console/serial boot menu (option 4) or Diagnostics > Factory Defaults inside pfSense; the LAN side comes back up at 192.168.1.1 for the admin/pfsense login.

NetgateSG-1100 (Netgate 1100)Modem / gateway · Webhttp://192.168.1.1 (opens in a new tab)adminpfsense

Entry-level pfSense Plus security-gateway/firewall (Marvell ARM, 3x Gigabit Ethernet, fanless). Genuine static default admin/pfsense; a password change is forced at first login on pfSense Plus 24.03 and later.

Recovery & reset instructions

On the SG-1100 the recessed reset button is a HARD reset (it powers the unit off immediately) and is NOT a factory-default reset — Netgate warns it can corrupt data. Restore defaults via the console menu or the GUI at Diagnostics > Factory Defaults instead. Then browse to https://192.168.1.1 and sign in.

NetgateSG-2100 (Netgate 2100)Modem / gateway · Webhttp://192.168.1.1 (opens in a new tab)adminpfsense

pfSense Plus security-gateway/firewall appliance (Marvell ARM, multi-Gigabit, optional embedded LTE). Genuine static default admin/pfsense; on pfSense Plus 24.03 and later you must change this to a non-default password at first login.

Recovery & reset instructions

The recessed reset button restores factory defaults but only responds during the boot sequence (not while running); alternatively use the console menu or the GUI at Diagnostics > Factory Defaults. Then browse to https://192.168.1.1 and sign in.

How to reach your router

  1. Connect your computer or phone to the router’s Wi-Fi or an Ethernet port.
  2. Open a documented login address. If it does not load, look for the Router or Default gateway address in your device’s network settings.
  3. Match your model and hardware revision to the table. Use the device label or your setup password when the model has no shared default.

Admin password or Wi-Fi password?

The admin password opens the router’s settings. The Wi-Fi password connects a device to the wireless network. They may be different, and an ISP or cloud account can be separate again.

If the password does not work

Check capitalization and the device label, then use the manufacturer’s password-recovery instructions. A factory reset erases settings and may require ISP setup details; follow the instructions for your exact model.
