Talking about it
- The clock face is the long bar with the numbers on it. Standoffs at each end keep it away from the wall, and have angle hangers that make it easy to level.
- The pointer moves along the clock face to indicate the time. It’s connected to the sled, the box that moves along the track behind the clock face.
- The sled holds an internal clock, powered by a watch battery. It lasts for 8 years, and is accurate to 8 seconds/year. The sled has two buttons and a screen so you can set this internal clock, and a motor with a gear that drives it along the track. (Don’t spin the gear by hand, or you might damage the little gearbox inside the motor.)
Assembling it
- Screw the angle hangers onto the standoffs using the gold screws into the pre-drilled holes. One hanger goes at the 6 PM end, the other at the midnight end. Assembling it
- Insert the pointer’s dowel rod into the clamp block on top of the sled, leaving about ⅛” clearance from the face of the clock. Tighten the clamp screw enough to hold it firmly, but loose enough so you can twist it to get it vertical.
- Make sure the on-off switch underneath the screen is On.
Setting it
- Basically, don’t. We already set it for you, and it springs forward or falls back for Daylight Savings Time. Its internal clock, powered by a standard CR2032 watch battery, will stay right for eight years or so even if the main battery needs a recharge. The screen will tell you if you need a new watch battery. Setting it
- But if you move to a new time zone or something, lift the sled up to take it off the clock face, and press either button. The screen will light up and show you the internal clock’s time. Hold the righter left-hand buttons to change the time.
- When the time is set right, put the pointer back at the correct time on the clock face. Make sure the gears are seated nicely on the track. Maybe you can’t get line of sight to see the gears sitting on the track, but the top of the sled should be level, and it should resist you a little if you try to push it left or right.
Hanging it
- There’s probably a great spot for it in your house, over a door or window. But don’t put it too close to the ceiling, since you may need room to lift the sled up and over the clock face to recharge it.
- Drill the holes so the angle of each hanger (not the curved part) rests on the screw. Then you can level it by moving the clock left or right a little.
- Use the drywall anchors, or be sure you hit wood with the longer screws. Some clocks are heavy! Leave the screws-with-washers sticking out about ¼” from the wall. Set the angle hangers on the screws. Make sure each hanger fits behind the washer, so it can’t fall off. Back the screws out from the wall a bit if necessary.
- Move the clock slightly left or right to level it.
Testing it / Showing it off
- Stand where you can quickly put the sled on the track at the 6 AM time. Take the sled off, then press and hold both buttons for 5 seconds. The screen will say “Calibrating”.
- At this point you have 8 seconds to put the sled back on the track at 6 AM. (Close is OK.) The pointer will then move to every hour and stop for a second. This is a good way to show off the clock to your friends. When it’s done, it will start telling time again. Testing it / Showing it off
- As it’s calibrating, if you see it catch or stumble, check the position of the pointer. Don’t let it rub: there should be an air gap at the top and front, as shown here. Loosen the clamp screw on top, wiggle the pointer out a bit if you need to, and tighten the clamp screw again.
Reading it
- During the day, the single pointer moves left-to-right to show you the time (Noon, below.)
- At night, the pointer moves slowly back to the left edge, over six hours. Some clocks have glow-in-the-dark dots at every night-time hour. Even in the dark, these dots show you the time (1:20 AM, below).
Charging it
- A fully charged battery will run the clock for 9 months or more. If you find the pointer parked at 6AM, the clock is telling you that its battery has gotten too low to function.
- Take the sled off the clock, turn its on-off switch Off, and plug it into a USB port overnight (not on a computer that will sleep). A light should come on inside the sled when you plug it in.
- In the morning, press either button to see the charge level. 4.00 Volts or more is fully charged. Don’t worry, you can’t overcharge it.
- Put the sled-and-pointer back so it indicates the right time on the clock face. Make sure the gears are seated nicely on the track. Maybe you can’t get line of sight to see the gears sitting on the track, but the top of the sled should be level, and it should resist you a little if you try to push it left or right.

* We’ve sold over 200 clocks as of this writing, and this has never happened.
