Connecting the Battery Backup to the Gateway
Review the Battery Back-up Instruction Manual
Prior to installing the battery back-up, review the Instruction manual – including the Cautions.
Running off the Battery Back-Up
The following describes the functionality of the battery back-up system.
- The Leap Gateway will continually run off battery power
- The 120V wall transformer will continually charge the battery.
- When 120V power is lost, the gateway will continue to run off battery power.
- The battery will typically last 2 days in normal use cases.

System Set-up
This section will go through the step by step instructions for connecting and setting up the battery back up system.
- Plug in the 12V wall transformer to a standard 120V wall outlet. Plug the barrel jack from the wall transformer into the battery back-up “IN” port.
- Turn-on the battery pack. The Status light on the battery should come on.
- The battery charge bar graph should show the battery at greater than 25% capacity. If only the bottom green LED is lit, allow the battery to charge for an hour before proceeding to the next step.
- Connect the cable as shown. The power light on the back of the gateway should light immediately. See Figure 3.
- The battery backup is now installed. The battery will provide 17 to 18 hours of backup power to the gateway in the event of a power failure. The USB charger should always remain plugged in and connected to the battery to keep the battery pack fully charged.
Do not use the 5V wall transformer that comes with the gateway. When the installation is complete, the gateway wall transformer will be “extra” and will not be used.
