TD Phone Connection

TD Phone allows you to text and interact with your smart phone through eye gaze on your Tobii Dynavox I-Series device.

Before Connecting

Make sure that TD Phone is installed on your Tobii Dynavox I-13 or I-16 device. To download the TD Phone installer, visit www.tobiidynavox.com/pages/td-phone-product-support?tab=1 and select TD Phone Software Bundle Installer.

If you have a closed I-13 or I-16 device, use another computer to download the TD Phone installer from the link above. Use a USB storage device to move the TD Phone installer file from the computer to your Tobii Dynavox device.
Initial setup requires input using the phone touch screen. If you are not able to access the phone touch screen, ask an assistant to complete these steps for you.

Connect your Mobile Phone

The first time that you launch TD Phone, the on-screen connection assistant will start automatically.
Follow the instructions carefully in each step to connect your mobile phone and start using TD Phone.
You can open the connection assistant again at any time:

  1. Look below the screen to open the Off-Screen Menu.
  2. Select Dashboard.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Select the right arrow.
  5. Select My Phone.
  6. Select the Connect button in the Connect Mobile Phone section.

Your mobile phone must always remain unlocked throughout the connection process.

    Where you connect your mobile phone to TD Phone and access other settings such as dwell time.
  3. Close Dashboard:

Using TD Phone

  • TD Phone requires that your mobile phone remain on. It does not need to remain unlocked.
  • Your mobile phone must remain within 3-5 meters (10-16 feet) of your I-Series device to maintain a good Bluetooth connection. The actual range varies, depending on your mobile phone model.

Send a Text Message

Respond to an existing conversation

  1. On the main menu, select Messages tobii dynavox TD Phone Connection - symbol 4.
  2. Select the conversation you would like to respond to.
  3. Select the Keyboard icon tobii dynavox TD Phone Connection - symbol 5to compose a  new message.
  4. Compose your message.

Message someone in your Contacts list

  1. On the main menu, select Contacts tobii dynavox TD Phone Connection - symbol 7.
  2. Select the contact you would like to message.

  4. Compose your message.

Send a message to a phone number

  2. Use the number buttons to enter the phone number you would like to message.

Receive Text Messages
Unread text messages are indicated by a number badge on the Messages icon in the Main Menu.

  1. On the main menu, select Messages tobii dynavox TD Phone Connection - symbol 4.
  2. Select a conversation to read those messages.

Call someone in your Contacts list

  1. On the main menu, select Contacts tobii dynavox TD Phone Connection - symbol 7.
  2. Select the contact you would like to call.

  4. Select the green phone icon tobii dynavox TD Phone Connection - symbol 10to start the call.
  5. Compose your message in the Message Window, then select Send to speak.

If the other party ends the call first, the call window will close automatically.
Dial a phone number directly

  1. On the main menu, select Keypad tobii dynavox TD Phone Connection - symbol 8.
  2. Use the number buttons to enter the phone number you would like to call.
  3. Select the green phone icon tobii dynavox TD Phone Connection - symbol 10 to start the call.
  4. Compose your message in the Message Window,  then select Send tobii dynavox TD Phone Connection - symbol 6 to speak.
  5. To end the call, select the red phone button tobii dynavox TD Phone Connection - symbol 11.
  6. If the other party ends the call first, the call window will close automatically.

Answer an Incoming Phone Call

  1. When you have an incoming call, a call window will appear on your I-Series device. You can receive and answer calls while using other apps on your device.
  2. Select Answer or Decline.

Switcher gives you access to Tobii Dynavox apps, apps you have pinned, and open apps.

  1. Look below the tracker to open the Off-Screen  Menu.

Do Not Disturb mode disables message and phone call notifications from TD Phone. Do Not Disturb mode will stay on until you restart TD Phone or turn it off by selecting the icon in the Off-Screen Menu.

Add or Update Contacts

  1. Look below the eye tracker to open the Off-Screen Menu, then select Dashboard tobii dynavox TD Phone Connection - symbol 15.

  3. On the My Phone card select Open.
  4. Select Update Contacts. Your contacts will be updated from the phone.

FAQs

How do I turn on Bluetooth on my I-Series device?
If Bluetooth is OFF on your I-Series, use the instructions below to turn it on.

To recalibrate:
Off-Screen Menu > Dashboard > Settings > Calibration
To adjust dwell times:

Why do I see only the last five messages from my iPhone in Messages?
Apple does not support importing full message history, only the last five messages. As you use TD Phone, your message history will build. That new message history will be shared between both TD Phone and your iPhone.
How can I adjust the voice used with TD Phone?
Voice options are located in TD Phone’s Settings: Off-Screen Menu > Dashboard > Settings > Voices
How can I increase the volume of a phone call?
Mobile phones may have separate volume controls for internal speakers versus Bluetooth devices  such as ear buds and the I-Series with TD Phone. You can adjust the mobile phone device volume onlyduring an active phone call. Call someone or ask them to call you, then ask an assistant to adjust the volume using the volume buttons on your mobile phone.
How do I remove my personal data from TD Phone?
Reset TD Phone to remove all mobile phones and associated data: Off-Screen Menu > Dashboard > Settings > My Phone > Reset
