Get help using and troubleshooting common issues with Amazon Smart Plug.

Getting Started:

Download the Alexa App

Download and install the Alexa app from your mobile device app store. Add the Alexa widget for easy home screen access.

  1. Open the app store on your mobile device.
  2. Search for Amazon Alexa app.
  3. Select Install.
  4. Select Open and sign in with your Amazon Account.
  5. Install Alexa widgets (optional).
Tip: Widgets allow easier access to Alexa from your device home screen. Alexa widgets become available in the device widget menu after you sign in to the Alexa app. On iOS (iOS 14 or newer) or Android devices, long-press the home page of your device and follow the instructions to add widgets.

Use the Alexa app to set up your Amazon Smart Plug.

Tip: Before setup, download or update the Alexa app in your mobile device’s app store.
  1. Plug your device into the wall.
  2. Open the Alexa app .
  3. Open More  and select Add Device.
  4. Select Plug.
  5. Follow the instructions to setup your device.
Set Up an Alexa Routine

To set up Routines, use the Alexa app.

  1. Open the Alexa app .
  2. Open More  and select Routines.
  3. Select Plus .
  4. Select When this happens, and follow the steps in the app to choose what starts your routine.
  5. Select Add action, and follow the steps in the app to choose the action of your routine.
    You can select multiple actions for the same routine.
  6. Select Save.
    Note: You can have up to 200 routines on your account.
Tip: Turn on Home Monitoring from the Camera settings on your Echo Show 10 to use person detection with your routines.

Troubleshooting:

Reset Your Amazon Smart Plug

If your Amazon Smart Plug is blinking red, Alexa can’t discover it, it stopped working, try resetting it.

Note: Restart your device first to see if it resolves the problem. To restart, unplug the device from the outlet and plug it back in.

If you have restarted your device and it still isn’t working, reset your Amazon Smart Plug:

  1. Press and hold the button on the device for 12 seconds.
  2. Release the button once you see the red LED light. A blue LED blinks when reset is complete.
  3. Register your Amazon Smart Plug in the Alexa app.

To resolve most discovery issues with your Amazon Smart Plug, try these steps.

  • Check that your Alexa device and the Alexa app have the latest software version.
  • Make sure that your Alexa device and your Amazon Smart Plug are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Check that your paired device is within 30 ft (9 m) of your Amazon Smart Plug.
  • Reset your Amazon Smart Plug: press and hold the button on the side of the device for 12 seconds. Then set up Amazon Smart Plug again.
