Step 1: Check what’s in the box

Ensure you have the following items:

  • EXT3-U3-T USB Transmitter / EXT3-U3-R Receiver
  • 1 C-USB/AB-6 Cable (for EXT3-U3-T only)
  • 1 Power adapter and cord (for EXT3-U3-T only)
  • 1 Quick start guide

Step 2: Get to know your EXT3-U3-T

Features of the EXT3-U3-T:

  • USB HOST Type B Port
  • PWR LED (Green when powered)
  • LINK LED (Blue when the link is established)
  • 20V DC Power Connector
  • Link RJ-45 Connector

    1 USB HOST Type B Port Connect to USB Host.
    2 PWR LED Lights green when powered.
    3 LINK LED Lights are blue when a link is established.
    4 20V DC Power Connector Connect to the supplied power adapter (when EXT3-U3-T is not powered by PoC).
    5 Link RJ-45 Connector Connect to the LINK IN port on the EXT3-U3-R.
    6 RS-232 4-pin Terminal Block Connector FS: Send the FSYNC signal from the transmitter to the receiver.

    Rx, Tx: RS-232 interface pass-through extension (supports any baud rate up to 115200).

    7 Service 3-pin Terminal Block Connector (G, Rx, Tx) Connect for firmware upgrade.

Step 3: Get to know your EXT3-U3-R

Features of the EXT3-U3-R:

  • USB 3 Type-A Ports

    # Feature Function
    1 USB 3 Type A Ports (1 to 3) Connect to USB local devices (for example, a USB camera, a sound-bar, a microphone, etc.).

     

    All 3 USB connectors on the receiver can provide power.

    2 PWR LED Lights green when powered.
    3 LINK LED Lights are blue when a link is established.
    4 20V DC Power Connector Connect to the power adapter (when EXT3-U3-R is not powered by PoC).
    5 Link RJ-45 Connector Connect to the LINK OUT port on the EXT3-U3-T.
    6 RS-232 4-pin Terminal Block Connector FS: Send the FSYNC signal from the transmitter to the receiver.

Step 4: Mount EXT3-U3-T / EXT3-U3-R

Install the unit using one of the following methods:

  • Fasten a bracket (included) on each side of the unit and attach it to a flat surface(see www.kramerav.com/downloads/EXT3-U3-T/www.kramerav.com/downloads/EXT3-U3-R).
    • Ensure proper environmental conditions for the device. (e.g., maximum ambient temperature & airflow) is compatible fwiththe device.
    • Avoid uneven mechanical loading.
    • Appropriate consideration of equipment nameplate ratings should be used to avoid overloading of the circuits.
    • Reliable earthing of rack-mounted equipment should be maintained.
    • The maximum mounting height for the device is 2 meters.

Step 5: Connect inputs and outputs
Connect the appropriate cables and ensure proper grounding.

  • PSU (Power Source Unit) at the receiver side for illustration purposes only.
  • PSU may be deployed on either the transmitter the receiver, or both.

Wiring the RJ-45 Connectors
This section defines the TP pinout, using a straight pin-to pin cable with RJ-45 connectors.

  • It is recommended that the cable ground shielding be connected/soldered to the connector shield.
  • To achieve specified extension distances, use the recommended Kramer cables available at https://www1.kramerav.com/gc/products/cables_connectors Using third-party cables may cause damage!

Step 6: Connect power
EXT3-U3-T / EXT3-U3-R is powered via PoC or optional PSU.

Safety Instructions

Caution:

  • For products with relay terminals and GPI\O ports, please refer to the permitted rating for an external connection, located next to the terminal or in the User Manual.
  • There are no operator-serviceable parts inside the unit.

Warning:

  • Use only the power cord that is supplied with the unit.
  • Disconnect the power and unplug the unit from the wall before installing it.
  • When EXT3-U3-R is powered by EXT3-U3-T (using PoC), the total current of all connected USB devices cannot exceed 3.25 amps.
  • When EXT3-U3-R is powered by a local PSU, the total current of all connected USB devices cannot exceed 5 amps.
  • An over-current protection mechanism will disconnect devices in case of exceeding the specified upper limit.
