FAQs

Q: Can I use rechargeable batteries with the KR-11 Compact Rhythm Box?A: It is recommended to use AA alkaline batteries for optimal performance. Rechargeable batteries may work but could affect performance.

Q: How far should I keep radios and televisions from the unit to avoid interference?A: Operate the unit at a suitable distance from radios and televisions to prevent reception interference. A distance of at least 1 meter is recommended.

Q: What should I do if liquid spills on the equipment?A: If liquid gets into the equipment, immediately unplug the AC adapter and contact your nearest Korg dealer for assistance.

Q: Can I connect external speakers to the KR-11 Compact Rhythm Box?A: The unit features a headphones/line-out jack for connecting to external speakers or audio devices for amplified sound output.

Powering this unit

  1. You can use either batteries (sold separately) or an AC adapter (sold separately).

When using batteries

  1. Open the battery cover on the bottom of this unit.
  2. Install four AA alkaline batteries, while making sure to observe the correct polarity (+, -).

Note: When the batteries run low,KORG-KR-11-Digital-Drum-Computer-FIG (5) blink on the display.

Please replace the batteries.

Using the AC adapter

Connect the dedicated Korg AC adapter (sold separately) to the DC 9V jack.
Make sure to only use the specified AC adapter. Using any AC adapter other than the specified model could cause a malfunction.

Connecting headphones or similar devices

When connecting headphones or monitor speakers

  • Aside from the built-in speaker, you can output sound to a pair of headphones or monitor speakers.
  • 1 Connect the 3.5 mm stereo mini phone jack of your headphones or similar device to the headphone/line out jack 15.
  • Do not use four-conductor (TRRS) plugs.
  • Be sure that your monitor speakers are turned off before you connect them to the KR-11.

Note: No sound is heard from the built-in speaker while a plug is connected to the headphones/line-out jack 15.

Turning the power on/off, adjusting the volume

Turning the power on

  1. Turn the volume dial 14 all the way counterclockwise to the minimum setting.
  2. Long-press the power button KORG-KR-11-Digital-Drum-Computer-FIG (6)7 to turn the unit on.
  3. Turn the volume dial 14 clockwise to raise the volume to an appropriate level.

Adjusting the volume

  1. Turn the volume dial to adjust the volume of sound that’s output from the built-in speaker 6 or headphones/line-out jack 15.

Turning the power off

  1. Keep holding down the power buttonKORG-KR-11-Digital-Drum-Computer-FIG (7) 7until the display 2 goes dark.

This unit automatically turns off if the buttons and knobs are not used for a certain length of time (the auto power-off function). This is set to one hour by factory default.

Playing back a rhythm pattern

Playing back rhythms

  1. Press the MODE button 10 to select pattern mode (the PATTERN LED 8 lights up). Press the MODE button to switch between pattern mode and pad mode.
  2. Turn the genre selector 1 to select the genre. Select from the presets (8BEAT–3/5/7).
  3. Press the 1–14 buttons 13 to select the pattern (the button lights up).
  4. Set the tempo by turning the tempo knob 4 or by pressing the TAP button 3 a number of times.
  5. Press theKORG-KR-11-Digital-Drum-Computer-FIG (8) button 11 to play back the pattern (the button lights up green). The TAP button blinks in time with the beat (red for beat 1,  green for all other beats).
  6. Press the FILL 1 and FILL 2 buttons 12 to play back a fill-in (switches from blinking to dark). Two fill-ins are programmed for each pattern.
  7. Press the other buttons (1–14) 13 to switch the pattern. To switch to patterns in other genres, use the genre selector to select 1 the genre.
  8. Press theKORG-KR-11-Digital-Drum-Computer-FIG (8) button 11 to stop (the button goes dark).

Adding a pre-count (a count-in before the rhythm plays)

  1. With playback stopped, use the FILL 1 and FILL 2 buttons 12  to select the pre-count sound (the button lights up). FILL 1: sidestick, FILL 2: closed hi-hat
  2. Turn the tempo knob while holding down the button for the selected sound to set the number of beats for the pre-count. You can set the pre-count to a value from 2 to 8 beats.
  3. Press theKORG-KR-11-Digital-Drum-Computer-FIG (8) button 11  to begin playback. The pattern begins playback after the number of beats specified for the pre-count.

Adding a swing feel

You can change the rhythm’s nuance by adding a swing for a syncopated, energetic feel.

  1. Long-press the TAP button 3 to show the amount of swing in the display 2.
  2. Turn the tempo knob 4 while holding down the TAP button 3 to adjust the amount of swing.

  1. Press the MODE button 10 to select pad mode (the PAD LED 9 lights up).
  2. Turn the genre selector to select 1 drum kit. A drum kit that’s appropriate to the genre is selected.
  3. Tap the 1–14 buttons 13 and the FILL 1/FILL 2 buttons to play in real-time (the buttons 12 light up).

Location

Using the unit in the following locations can result in a malfunction.

Power supply

Please connect the designated AC adapter to an AC outlet of the correct voltage. Do not connect it to an AC outlet of voltage other than that for which your unit is intended.

Interference with other electrical devices

Radios and televisions placed nearby may experience reception interference. Operate this unit at a suitable distance from radios and televisions.

Handling

To avoid breakage, do not apply excessive force to the switches or controls.

Care

If the exterior becomes dirty, wipe it with a clean, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners such as benzene or thinner, cleaning compounds, or flammable polishes.

Keeping foreign matter out of your equipment

Never set any container with liquid in it near this equipment. If liquid gets into the equipment, it could cause a breakdown, fire, or electrical shock.
