Latch Backset Adjustment
The adjustable latch supports backsets of 2 3/8" (60 mm) and 2 3/4" (70 mm).
To adjust:
- For 2 3/8" (60 mm) backset: The cam should be in the square position, with the adjustable sleeve pushed all the way to the left.
- To adjust to 2 3/4" (70 mm) backset: Pull the cam all the way to the right, and push the adjustable sleeve all the way to the right.
- To restore to 2 3/8" (60 mm) backset: Push the adjustable sleeve all the way to the left.
Note: The cam inside the latch should be in the square position for proper function.
Assembly Instructions
Step 1: Backset Determination
Backset is the distance from the door edge to the center of the hole on the door face. The adjustable latch accommodates both 2 3/8" (60 mm) and 2 3/4" (70 mm) backsets. If replacing an old lock, confirm the existing backset and faceplate specifications match.
Step 2: Change Latch Face
Determine the required latch mounting method. No adjustment is needed for a square latch faceplate.
- a. Use a flat screwdriver [tool] to separate the face plate.
- b. Snap the selected latch face onto the back plate.
Step 2.1: Drive-in Installation
Remove the original latch faceplate. Align the drive-in sleeve (F) as illustrated and snap it into the latch case.
Step 3: Mark the Door with Template
Select the desired height and backset on the door face. Use the provided template to mark the center of the lockset hole on the door face and the center of the door edge.
Step 4: Drill Holes
Using the marks as a guide:
- Drill a Ø2 1/8" (54 mm) hole through the door face for the lockset.
- Drill a Ø1" (25.4 mm) hole for the latch.
Step 5: Identify Door Handing
Face the door from the outside. The door is left-handed if the hinges are on the left side, and right-handed if the hinges are on the right side.
[Diagram showing left-handed and right-handed doors with hinge placement]
Step 6: Change Lever Handing
Ensure the lock is unlocked (spindle is vertical). Remove the protection sleeve (D) from the exterior lock unit.
- Rotate the exterior lever (B) by 180 degrees.
- Return the protection sleeve (D) to its original position.
Note: The spindle must be vertical.
Removing and Reattaching Levers
- To remove exterior lever: Insert the lever removal tool (L) [tool] into the hole on the neck of the exterior lever (B). Press down and pull the lever out simultaneously. The key cylinder remains on the inside.
- To remove interior lever: Use thumb and index finger to push against the lock body while holding and pulling the lever back. Insert the lever removal tool (L) [tool] into the hole on the side of the lever, press down, and the lever can be pulled out.
- To reattach levers: Switch interior and exterior levers. Push them in and fasten. Ensure levers are correctly placed and test the lock function.
Step 7: Chisel Space for Latch Faceplate
Insert the latch and position the faceplate against the door edge. Mark the faceplate outline as a guide. Chisel 5/32" (4 mm) deep along the outline to allow the faceplate to sit flush with the door edge.
Note: Chisel space is not necessary if using the drive-in latch.
Step 8: Install Latch
Insert the latch (E) into the door. Ensure the cam is at the bottom of the latch. Secure the latch using 2 [wood screws] (L). Do not fully tighten screws until the lock is completely installed.
Hardware Used: L Wood screws x2
Step 8.1: Install Drive-in Latch
Drive the latch (E) into the hole on the edge of the door.
Step 9: Mark the Outline of Strike
Close the door partially so the latchbolt touches the door frame. Place the strike plate (G) against the door frame and mark its perimeter. Ensure the center of the strike is aligned with the center of the faceplate.
Step 10: Chisel Space for Strike
Drill a Ø1" (25.4 mm) hole with a 1/2" (13 mm) depth on the center of the strike outline. Use a chisel to create a recess approximately 1/16" (1.6 mm) deep within the traced outline, ensuring the strike plate will sit flush with the frame surface.
Step 11: Install Strike on Door Frame
Install the strike plate (G) into the door frame and tighten with 2 [wood screws] (L).
Hardware Used: L Wood screws x2
Step 12: Install the Exterior Lock Body
Fit the spindle vertically through the square cam of the latch. Pass the cable through the cross bore above the latch. Ensure the spindle remains vertical.
Step 13: Install the Mounting Plate
Pass the cable through the cable hole at the top of the mounting plate (H). Fasten the mounting plate (H) using [mounting plate screws] (N). Check if the exterior lock unit and mounting plate are tilted. If so, loosen screws for adjustment and re-fasten.
Hardware Used: N Mounting plate screws x2
Step 13.1: Hardware for Mounting
Wood screws or self-tapping screws may be used for mounting the plate. Wood screws are for wooden doors, and self-tapping screws are for metal doors to ensure stability.
Hardware Used: Wood screw x1 or Self-tapping screw x1
Step 14: Install the Interior Lock Body
Push the battery cover (J) upward.
Connect the interior and exterior cables. Align the interior lock unit to the spindle and push it in, ensuring the turn-piece is horizontal. Fasten with screws when the interior lock unit is flush with the door. If it cannot be flush, push the cable into the cross bore.
Hardware Used: P Installation screws x3
Step 14.2: Battery Installation
Install 4 AA alkaline batteries and close the battery cover (J). Installation is complete.
Remarks:
- (1) Alkaline batteries are recommended for stable power supply. Non-alkaline batteries may reduce performance.
- (2) Do not mix alkaline batteries with regular zinc-carbon batteries or batteries of different brands.
