SmartWise Smart Gate / Garage Door Controller User Manual
Official Distributor: MarketCom
Product Overview
This SmartWise product is an eWeLink app compatible smart home device, featuring Wi-Fi connectivity. It connects to existing garage door or gate opener motors, enabling remote control of opening and closing operations via the eWeLink app. Optionally, with the water-resistant door/gate status sensor, it can display the open/closed status of the door/gate within the smartphone app.
The product package includes a SmartWise WiFi smart controller, a status sensor with cable, a cable connecting the smart controller to the garage motor, a bracket for the status sensor, double-sided adhesive tape, cable clamps, cable ties, wall cable clamps, and screws. The smart controller features a hidden button (activated with a SIM needle) for ON/OFF switching and phone pairing/Wi-Fi configuration, a Wi-Fi status LED, a microUSB port for 5V power input, a slot for the garage motor cable, and a slot for the status sensor cable.
Preparation, Download, and Install eWeLink App
SmartWise devices are compatible with the eWeLink app, available for both Apple (iOS) and Android smartphones. Use the eWeLink app to pair your smart device and configure its Wi-Fi network settings. After initial setup, the app allows monitoring of device status, remote switching, scheduling, and device settings management.
Download and Install eWeLink App
Search for 'eWeLink' in the Apple AppStore or Google Play Store for Android phones. Download and install the 'eWeLink – Smart Home' app, similar to installing any other smartphone application.
Create a User Account
Upon first use, the app may request permission to display notifications. It is recommended to allow notifications to receive alerts about smart device events. To create an account, choose 'REGISTER'. Provide a valid email address; no other personal information is required. A short PIN code will be sent to your email for verification. Enter this code in the eWeLink app within 30 minutes to activate your account. If the verification code is not received, check your spam email folder. After verification, set a secure password for your eWeLink account. It is advised to use a strong, unique password.
To log in, enter your email address and password. If you change phones or wish to use eWeLink on multiple devices, simply log in with your existing account. Note that the current eWeLink software version may log you out of other devices when logging in on a new one for security. For frequent multi-phone use, consider creating a separate account and sharing device access.
Pairing Smart Device with Phone and Wi-Fi Configuration
This process is for first-time use.
- Connect a 5V power adapter (minimum 500mA, not included) to the garage door controller.
- Connect your smartphone to the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network you intend to use for the smart relay. For optimal connection, ensure your phone connects to the same Wi-Fi access point as the smart relay, ideally by turning Wi-Fi off and on again on your phone to reconnect to the strongest signal.
- Ensure the eWeLink app has access to your phone's location, which is necessary for device pairing.
- Press and hold the hidden phone/Wi-Fi pairing button on the smart device for 5-8 seconds until the device enters pairing mode. The Wi-Fi status LED will blink three times, pause, then repeat.
- Open the eWeLink app, tap the '+' button at the bottom of the screen, and follow the on-screen instructions to add the device.
Pairing Method
Select the 'Quick Pairing' method and tap 'NEXT'.
Enter Wi-Fi Password
The app will use your phone's current Wi-Fi network ID (SSID). Enter your Wi-Fi password. You can choose to 'remember password' for future convenience. Note that only 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks are supported; pairing will fail on 5GHz networks.
Start Pairing
Place your phone near the smart device. The app will search for compatible devices in pairing mode, configure them for your Wi-Fi network, and register them to your eWeLink account. This process typically takes about 1 minute, with a countdown timer up to 3 minutes. Upon successful configuration, the smart device will reboot, connect to Wi-Fi, and appear online in the eWeLink app. The Wi-Fi status LED will change from blinking to a solid light.
If Pairing Fails
- Verify your phone is connected to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
- Try the 'Compatible Mode' pairing method.
- Check firewall settings on your router. Temporarily connect to a phone's Wi-Fi hotspot to test if firewalls are blocking registration.
- For issues with iOS 13.x, try pairing with an Android phone.
Name Your Device
Assign a descriptive name to your smart device in the app for easy identification, especially if you use multiple SmartWise or Sonoff devices.
Installation
Possible Installation Scenarios
The SmartWise controller can be installed in several ways depending on your existing setup.
- Typical Installation: Connects directly to the garage door motor and uses a wall-mounted door control or switch. Requires a 5V USB power adapter and microUSB cable (not included).
- Alternative 1 (with Wall Switch): Connects the smart controller cable to an existing wall switch instead of directly to the motor.
- Alternative 2 (with RF Remote): For engines without wall switches or external slots but with an RF remote, the cable can be soldered to an RF remote controller's micro-switch.
Installation Steps
Verify compatibility before final installation. The SmartWise garage door controller is compatible with garage doors controlled by a 1-button remote or 1-button wall switch that use voltage-free, dry-contact switching.
- Attach the 2-wire cable to the smart controller and the garage motor's input slots. Ensure these slots are also connected to your wall switch if applicable.
- Connect a standard 5V DC power adapter (not included) to the device's power input slot.
- Briefly push the hidden button on the smart device with a sharp object. If the garage door motor operates (opens or closes), the compatibility test is successful.
Proceed with Installation
- Install the SmartWise garage door controller near the motor. Ensure the two-wire cable reaches the motor's input slots. Crucially, the smart controller is NOT water-resistant, so install it away from moisture.
- Connect the controller to a 230V electrical outlet using a 5V DC USB power supply (minimum 500mA, 1A recommended) and the included microUSB cable.
- Connect the black and red two-wire cable to the smart controller and the two free wires to the motor's control slots, following the motor's documentation.
Install Status Sensor
Install the status sensor securely. When the gate is closed, the distance between the two sensor parts should be between 3-15mm. The sensor part with the wire should be attached to the wall or door frame, not the door itself.
The sensor consists of two parts: one with a wire attached to the wall/door frame, and another (magnet) attached to the door. A bracket is used for mounting. If screws cannot be used for a firm attachment, utilize the included double-sided adhesives. Combining screws and adhesives can enhance stability.
How to Operate the Smart Controller
Open/Close Status of the Door or Gate
The eWeLink app displays the current status of the garage door or gate. An 'ON' status in the app indicates the door/gate is open (or not fully closed), while an 'OFF' status signifies it is closed. The app status reflects the door's state, not the switch's momentary action.
Operating the Smart Controller
You can now open/close the garage door/gate by tapping the ON/OFF button in the eWeLink app. The button status will briefly change to reflect the door's actual open/close state. You can also continue to operate your garage door or gate using your existing wall switch or RF remote controller. The eWeLink app will update to show the current open/close status accordingly.
Firmware Update
Manufacturers and eWeLink regularly release software updates for supported devices. It is recommended to check for and install firmware updates periodically through the eWeLink app's Settings menu for optimal performance and new features.
