Get to Know Zhiyun MasterEye Visual Controller

The Zhiyun MasterEye Visual Controller is a sophisticated device with various ports and controls. The following describes its key components:

Device Overview: The controller features a screen, various buttons, control wheels, a joystick, ports for charging and audio, and antennas for wireless transmission.

Component Descriptions:

  • 1. Antenna: Transmits wireless signals. Its maximum rotation angle is 90 degrees. For better transmission, rotate antennas for optimal long-distance communication. Fold when not in use.
  • 2. Photodetector: Automatically adjusts screen brightness based on the current environment when the Visual Controller is powered on.
  • 3. Focus Control Wheel: Controls electronic focus for compatible cameras or TransMount Servo Zoom/Focus Controller.
  • 4. Micro SD Card Slot: Supports up to 128GB. Used for storing screen record videos and firmware upgrades.
  • 5. 3.5mm Earphones Port: For audio monitoring.
  • 6. Type-C Charging Port: For charging the internal battery.
  • 7. TV Button: Single press to enter shutter parameter settings, then rotate the quick adjustment wheel to adjust shutter parameters.
  • 8. AV Button: Single press to enter aperture parameter settings, then rotate the quick adjustment wheel to adjust aperture parameters.
  • 9. EV Button: Single press to enter exposure compensation parameter settings, then rotate the quick adjustment wheel to adjust exposure compensation parameters.
  • 10. ISO Button: Single press to enter sensitivity parameter settings, then rotate the quick adjustment wheel to adjust sensitivity parameters.
  • 11. WB Button: Single press to enter white balance settings, then rotate the quick adjustment wheel to adjust white balance parameters.
  • 12. 1/4 Screw Hole: For attaching accessories using 1/4 screws.
  • 13. Joystick: Rotates in four directions to control the stabilizer (not available in Go mode and POV mode).
  • 14. Video Button: Single press to start or stop camera filming. In the Screen Record Album, single press to play or pause video.
  • 15. Photo Taking Button: Half-press to activate autofocus (on compatible cameras). Full-press to take photos.
  • 16. Quick Control Dial: In Screen Record Album, rotates to select video files. In Settings Menu, rotates to adjust parameters.
  • 17. F1 Motion Sensor Button: Single press to turn motion sensor control on or off.
  • 18. No definition yet: Placeholder for future functionality.
  • 19. External Battery Slot: Accepts NP-F external batteries to extend runtime.
  • 20. Unlock Button: Press to release the rear cover of the external battery slot or the external battery.
  • 21. Quick Adjustment Wheel: Rotates to adjust the current camera parameter.
  • 22. Zoom Rocker: Controls electronic zoom for compatible cameras or TransMount Zoom/Focus Control Motor.
  • 23. Power Button: Press and hold for 3 seconds to power on/off. Press and hold for 7 seconds (when off) for firmware upgrade. Single press (when on) to lock/unlock buttons and screen.
  • 24. Battery Indicator Light: Shows the current battery level of the Visual Controller.

* Parameters may not be adjustable in certain camera modes. Refer to the camera's current exposure mode.

** NP-F batteries are not provided.

Charging and Battery

The Visual Controller features an internal built-in battery. For first-time use, please fully charge it to activate the battery.

Charging Method: Connect the Visual Controller to a USB charger (not provided) using the provided Type-C cable. It is recommended to use USB chargers supporting QC 2.0 or PD policy (up to 16W). Charging is complete when all four indicator lights are solid blue.

Charging Time: Approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes with a 15W QC2.0/PD charger at 25°C. Charging time may vary based on environmental factors. Using a 5V/2A charger takes approximately 2 hours and 16 minutes.

Indicator Light: When the battery level is below 10%, the indicator light turns solid red.

Note: External NP-F batteries cannot be charged by this device.

Wi-Fi Pairing

The Visual Controller must be paired with a TransMount Image Transmission Transmitter or Transmitter 2.0 for initial use. Follow these steps:

  1. Power on the Image Transmission Transmitter or Transmitter 2.0.
  2. Power on the Zhiyun MasterEye Visual Controller. Tap the Wi-Fi icon on the upper left of the screen. Select the Wi-Fi name of the transmitter and enter the password (default: 12345678). Successful pairing displays the camera screen automatically.

Wi-Fi Information: The Wi-Fi name (USER ID: XXXX) is found on the transmitter's label sticker. For tutorials, visit www.zhiyun-tech.com.

Automatic Connection: After initial pairing, the Visual Controller saves Wi-Fi information and connects automatically.

Re-pairing: Re-pair if the transmitter is reset to factory settings, its Wi-Fi password changes, or firmware is updated.

Environment: Perform pairing in an environment with minimal interruptions.

Device Limit: The Image Transmission Transmitter/Transmitter 2.0 can connect to a maximum of 3 devices (including mobile phones, tablets, and the Visual Controller). Ensure a distance of over 0.5m between the Visual Controller and the transmitter when other devices are connected.

Monitor Interface

The monitor interface displays various status indicators and controls. Key elements include:

  • 1. Wi-Fi Icon: Shows Wi-Fi connection status. Tap to connect.
  • 2. Wi-Fi Channel: Tap to view or switch Wi-Fi channels.
  • 3. Stabilizer Mode: Tap to select the stabilizer mode.
  • 4. Stabilizer Connection Status: Displays the current connection status of the stabilizer.
  • 5. Camera Mode: Shows the current camera mode.
  • 6. Control Mode: Displays the current control mode.
  • 7. Camera Record Duration: Indicates the camera's recording time.
  • 8. Image Transmission Icon: Tap to enable/disable live footage streaming.
  • 9. Stabilizer Battery Level: Shows the stabilizer's battery status.
  • 10. External Battery Level: Displays the external battery's charge level.
  • 11. Internal Battery Level: Shows the internal battery's charge level.
  • 12. Settings Menu: Accesses various settings:
    • Control Settings: Adjust joystick speed, smoothness, deadband, reverse parameters; motion sensor follow speed and smoothness; and stabilizer motor torque (High, Medium, Low).
    • Focus Control Wheel: Select electronic focus or TransMount Motor control. Adjust sensitivity (High, Medium, Low).
    • Zoom Rocker: Select electronic zoom or TransMount Motor control. Adjust sensitivity (High, Medium, Low).
    • Quick Control Dial: Sensitivity adjustment (High, Medium, Low).
  • Photo Mode: Options for time-lapse or trajectory shooting.
  • Scene Mode: Options for "Walk Mode" or "Run Mode".
  • Frame: Choose to display or hide crop marks (5 types available: 3x3, 6x4, diagonal, 3x3+diagonal, golden ratio).
  • Product Information: Displays device name, serial number, and firmware version.
  • Languages: Tap to change the display language.
  • 13. Screen Record: Start/stop screen recording or check Micro SD card storage.
  • 14. Camera Video Filming: Start/stop camera video recording.
  • 15. Camera Photo Taking: Take photos with the camera.
  • 16. Screen Record Album: View screen recordings when a Micro SD card is inserted.
  • 17. Camera Parameters: View current camera settings (shutter, aperture, etc.).
  • 18. Screen Record Duration: Displays the duration of screen recording.
  • 19. Stabilizer Reposition: Returns the stabilizer to its starting point.
  • 20. Clear/Display: Hides or shows interface icons.

For optimal image transmission, select channels with fewer interruptions based on the environment.

How to Install and Use

Installing and Detaching External Battery

Install NP-F batteries (not provided) into the external battery slot to extend runtime.

Install External Battery:

  1. Press and hold the unlock button of the external battery, then remove the rear cover of the battery slot.
  2. Insert the NP-F battery into the slot and slide it to the right for a secure installation.

Detach External Battery: Press the unlock button and slide the battery to the left to detach it.

Screen Brightness / Audio Volume Adjustment

The screen brightness can be adjusted automatically based on the environment. Manual adjustment is also possible:

  • Brightness: Swipe up or down on the left blank space of the screen. Swipe up to increase, swipe down to decrease.
  • Audio Volume: Swipe up or down on the right blank space of the screen.

Real-time Audio Monitoring

Pair the Visual Controller with a camera and Image Transmission Transmitter/Transmitter 2.0 for audio monitoring:

  1. Install a microphone (not provided) to the camera's hot shoe port, ensuring proper connection.
  2. Connect the camera to the Image Transmission Transmitter/Transmitter 2.0 using an appropriate HDMI cable and power on both devices.
  3. Once the Visual Controller is paired with the transmitter, plug in earphones to achieve audio remote monitoring.

? Note: The camera must support audio output via HDMI.

Motion Sensor Control

Press the F1 button to enable motion sensor control and move the stabilizer by moving the Visual Controller.

  1. Ensure the Image Transmission Transmitter/Transmitter 2.0, camera, and stabilizer are correctly connected.
  2. Verify that Wi-Fi pairing has been successfully performed between the Visual Controller and the transmitter.
  3. Connect the stabilizer and transmitter, power them on, select "Camera Settings" in the stabilizer menu, and choose "Extension Port". A successful connection is indicated by the stabilizer connection status on the Visual Controller monitor.

Motion Sensor Settings:

  • The roll axis motion sensor is off by default. Enable it via "Settings Menu" to adjust follow speed.
  • When enabled, the stabilizer enters locking mode automatically.
  • To protect the camera, motion sensor control ranges are: Tilt axis: +135° to -60°; Roll axis: ±45°; Pan axis: 360°.

Firmware Upgrade

Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware:

  1. Visit www.zhiyun-tech.com, navigate to the "Zhiyun MasterEye Visual Controller" page, and download the firmware package.
  2. Unzip the package and copy the ".bin" file to a Micro SD card.
  3. Insert the Micro SD card into the Visual Controller's slot.
  4. With the Visual Controller powered off, press and hold the power button for 7 seconds. The monitor will display "System Upgrade" with a progress bar. The device powers off automatically upon completion.

Important Notes:

  • Ensure the Visual Controller battery is above 50% before upgrading. Do not insert or remove the Micro SD card during the process.
  • After upgrade, the Visual Controller will disconnect from the transmitter; re-pair via Wi-Fi.
  • If the remote controller requires an upgrade, it will enter the status automatically when the Visual Controller powers on, displaying "System Upgrade". Wait for the remote controller upgrade to finish.

Safe Operation Guidelines

WARNING:

  • Keep the product away from liquids and avoid immersion in water or exposure to humid environments to prevent corrosion, battery ignition, or explosion.
  • In case of fire, use water mist, sand, fire blanket, or CO2 extinguisher.
  • Operate within a temperature range of -10°C to 45°C.
  • Do not disassemble the product. Battery piercing can cause leaks, fire, or explosion.
  • Avoid mechanical impact, rolling, or throwing. Do not place heavy objects on the product.
  • Do not heat the product or place it in microwave ovens or pressure cookers.
  • Keep away from heat sources and avoid leaving it in hot cars. Do not store above 45°C; ideal storage is 22°C to 28°C.
  • Do not store the battery fully discharged for extended periods to prevent damage.

BE CAREFUL:

  • The Visual Controller is a high-precision device; drops or external forces may cause malfunction.
  • The Visual Controller is not waterproof. Avoid contact with liquids or cleaners; use a dry cloth for cleaning.
  • Protect the Visual Controller from dust and sand.

CAUTION:

  • Disconnect the product from the charger after charging is complete.
  • If not using the product for over 10 days, charge/discharge the battery to 40%-65% for storage to extend battery life.
  • Recharge and discharge every 3 months to maintain battery activity.

Warranty Information

Warranty Period

  • Customers are entitled to replacement or free repair for quality defects found within 15 days of receipt.
  • ZHIYUN provides free repair service for products proven defective in material or workmanship during normal usage within the 12-month warranty period from the date of sale. Warranty periods may vary by component and country. Contact ZHIYUN after-sales service for details.

Warranty Exclusions

  • Unauthorized repair, misuse, collision, neglect, mishandling, soaking, accident, or unauthorized alteration.
  • Improper use or tampered labels/security tags.
  • Expired warranty.
  • Damage due to force majeure (fire, flood, lightning, etc.).
