BRAUN RC 1 Remote Control

Operation Instructions

Introduction

The infra-red remote control RC1 is designed to operate units from the BRAUN atelier product line. It allows you to control various compatible devices by setting the address selector to the corresponding position.

Compatible Devices

The RC1 can operate the following types of devices:

  • Compact Disc player
  • Digital Tape player
  • Audio system
  • Satellite Tuner
  • Video Recorder 1
  • Video Recorder 2
  • Television

Remote Control Components

The RC1 features the following key components:

  • A: Address Selector: Used to select the desired device.
  • B: Release Button: Opens the control flap.
  • C: Flap: Covers additional controls.
  • D: Window: Displays the currently selected device.
  • E: Control Diode: A green LED [indicator light] that flickers to confirm button presses.

Inserting the Battery

The battery compartment is located on the underside (back) of the RC1.

Instructions:

  1. Press the case top in the direction of the arrow indicated on the compartment. The flap will spring open. [Diagram: Battery compartment on underside, press top in arrow direction to open flap.]
  2. Connect the poles of the supplied battery (Type 6 F 22, 9 Volt) to the push-button contacts inside the battery housing. [Diagram: Connect battery terminals to contacts.]
  3. Place the connected battery into the compartment. [Diagram: Insert connected battery.]
  4. Press the lid shut until it clicks. The remote control is now operational. [Diagram: Close lid until latched.]

Battery Life & Maintenance:

  • In normal use, the battery should last approximately one year.
  • Replace the battery with the same type when the remote control's range decreases.
  • If the RC1 is not going to be used for an extended period, remove the battery to prevent potential damage from leakage.

Replacing Address Pages

For each device or combination of "audio" equipment, a separate printed address page is provided, detailing the functions assigned to the remote's buttons. For future BRAUN atelier products, a printed address page will be enclosed with each unit. You can replace the unprinted address page in the RC1 with a new printed one as follows:

  1. Slide the address selector (A) to the name of the desired unit.
  2. Press the release button (B) to open the flap (C). [Diagram: Flap opened by pressing release button.]
  3. Lift up the currently installed, unprinted address page and carefully pull it out. [Diagram: An unprinted address card is shown being lifted out from the slot.]
  4. Insert the new, printed address page into the same place. Ensure the two open hooks on the card clasp the guide axle. [Diagram: Insert the new card, aligning its hooks with the guide axle.]
  5. Close the flap (C) by pressing it down until it clicks shut.

Troubleshooting Address Page Replacement:

If the RC1's internal register mechanism is displaced, unintentionally or during address page replacement, do not force the flap shut. Instead, proceed as follows:

  1. With the flap still open, verify that the number of address pages held within the flap corresponds to the position of the address selector. The top address page in the flap should display the functions for the unit indicated in the window (D). [Diagram: With flap open, check correct number of cards and top card matches selected unit in window.]
  2. Locate the white dot on the rectangular button situated in the recess to the right of the address page slot. This dot should align with the white dot on the address card itself. If it is not aligned, carefully move the rectangular button until the two white dots are level. [Diagram: Align white dot on rectangular button with white dot on address card.]

Operation

The specific controls and functions of the RC1 for each device are described in the operating instructions of the respective BRAUN atelier unit.

When buttons on the RC1 are operated, the green control diode (E) will flicker as confirmation. [Symbol: A green LED indicator.]
