ព័ត៌មានសុវត្ថិភាព
- Kiteboarding is an exciting and rewarding sport, but like any wind and water activity, it carries certain risks. Knowing your control system, following proven safety practices, respecting your environment, and riding within your limits will help you get the most out of every session.
- This section outlines essential safety guidelines to follow before, during, and after each session. Take the time to read and understand them – for your own safety and for the safety of others.
- The risks listed may not be complete.
សុវត្ថិភាពទូទៅ
- Take lessons from a certified kiteboarding school before your first session.
- Kite only if you can swim confidently and are in good physical condition.
- Never use your control system under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication that may affect your judgement or reaction time.
- Avoid riding alone – have a partner or someone on shore ready to assist if needed.
- Inspect your control system, lines, and safety release before every session. Never use lines with knots, cuts, nicks, or other damage – replace them immediately.
- Make sure the quick-release and safety leash connection points are clean, functional, and free of wear.
When kiteboarding, you may face the extreme forces of the elements – wind, water, and weather can change quickly and unexpectedly. Being prepared is the key to staying safe.
Location & conditions
- Check the spot before riding. Know the tides, waves, and other natural factors that can affect your session. Identify hazards such as obstacles, shallow areas, currents, or changes in the weather.
- Keep a safe distance – at least two full line lengths – downwind of yourself. Never kite near power lines, roads, buildings, or cliffs – it’s extremely dangerous.
- Avoid offshore winds unless supported by a rescue craft.
- Be cautious in strong onshore winds, gusty conditions, or approaching storms.
- Check local regulations and always respect restricted areas.
During your session
- xAlways ride with a properly maintained control system and safety leash. Make sure you can activate the quick release instantly and with one hand in an emergency situation.
- Attach your safety leash to the correct connection point so the kite can fully depower after release.
- Keep your lines clear of tangles and away from other riders – entanglement can cause loss of control and injury.
- Never touch the lines when the kite is under wind load – they can cause serious cuts or burns instantly. Never wrap lines around any part of your body.
- If you lose control or the situation changes suddenly, activate your safety system without hesitation.
ការការពារផ្ទាល់ខ្លួន
- Be aware of general water sports risks such as rocks, waves, drowning, hypothermia, sunburn, fatigue, jellyfish, and other marine life.
- Wear a helmet, impact vest or personal flotation device (PFD), and an appropriate wetsuit or drysuit for the conditions.
- Carry a line cutter in an accessible place on your harness for emergency situations.

ការដំឡើង
Before every session, take a moment to unwind and sort your lines carefully. Lay your control system on the ground and start unwinding the lines, ensuring they are free from twists, knots, or damage.
Always follow the colour coding when connecting your control system to your jacobsen kite.
4.1 Line set-up upwind of your kite
Lay your control system on the ground, the blue side on the right. Walk from your bar stick towards the kite, keeping the lines straight and parallel. Check they are not twisted or crossed before connecting.
Line set-up downwind of your kite
- Lay your control system on the ground face down, with the black stripes visible for orientation and the blue side on the left.
- Walk from your control system towards the kite, keeping the lines straight and parallel. Check they are not twisted or crossed before connecting.

Line extensions
Your MISSION control system comes standard with 25 m lines. Line extensions allow you to adapt the handling of your kite to different conditions or riding styles. With the pre-installed extension lines, you can shorten the setup from 25 m to 22 m. Reattach the connectors after removing the extension lines.
Always remove or attach extensions on all four lines equally to keep your system balanced.
Attaching the lines to your kite
Before launching, always connect your lines carefully. Incorrectly attached or twisted lines can cause loss of control, crashes, or accidents. Take your time to set them up right every session.
Always double-check your line setup before launching. Make sure the front lines (grey) are correctly attached, and that the back lines (red = left, blue = right) are not crossed or twisted.
- Connect the grey front pigtails on your kite to the grey connectors from your bar. Use a larkshead knot over the knot at the end of the connector.

Connect the left back pigtail (red) to the red connector from your bar, and the right back pigtail (blue) to the blue connector. The middle knot is the standard setting, secure both with a larkshead knot.

safety system
The quick release on your MISSION control system is your most important safety feature. Before every session, check that it works smoothly and perform a test release. Make sure it is clean and free from sand, salt, or ice, and never block or wrap anything around it.
Hooking into your harness
The jacobsen quick release is made to work with a standard harness hook – always connect it this way for full function. Always make sure your quick release is locked securely before launching.
- Slide the closed chicken loop into your harness hook.
- Lock it with the security finger so the loop cannot slip out accidentally. 1 2

Activating the release system
- In an emergency, you must be able to release instantly. Push the red cap of the quick release firmly away from you. The chicken loop will open, the bar will slide to the stopper knot, and the kite will flag out on the single front line safety. This stops the pull and puts the kite in a powerless state.
- Always practise on land in safe conditions so you can react quickly and confidently when it matters most.
កំណត់សម្គាល់សុវត្ថិភាព: If, for any reason, the kite does not fully flag-out af-ter activating the quick release, trigger your safety leash release immediately to disconnect completely from the kite.

Reassembling the quick release
After activating the quick release, you can reset your system and get your kite flying again. Always take your time and make sure all parts are reset correctly before relaunching.
- Carefully move along the safety line until you reach the bar. Secure the safety line to your harness hook so the system is unloaded and both hands are free.
- Reset the quick release – press the end of the chicken loop into the opening at the bottom of the release cap. Make sure you hear or feel the click that confirms it is locked.

- Check the safety line runs free, then unhook the safety line from your harness.
- Slide the chicken loop back into your harness hook and lock it with the security finger.
កំណត់សម្គាល់សុវត្ថិភាព: Only reset when the kite is fully settled and there is clear space downwind. Never allow any line to wrap around your hands, body, or the bar.
ខ្សែសុវត្ថិភាព
Your safety leash is an essential part of the safety system. It keeps the kite connected to you after activating the quick release, and gives you the option to disconnect completely in case of an emergency. Always wear it correctly and make sure you can release it instantly if needed.
Never ride without a safety leash. Only advanced riders should ride unhooked – and only if they fully understand the risks and know how to manage them.
Attaching your safety leash
- The safety leash features a carabiner that must be properly secured to the metal safety ring under-neath the quick release before launching your kite.
- The other end of the safety leash features a release handle to detach yourself from the kite in an emer-gency. Connect it to the leash attachment point on your harness.

Correct installation of the safety leash on your harness (side or front) is critical. Never attach it to a handle, belt loop, or anything not designed for kiteboarding. Incorrect assembly can be life-threatening in an emergency.
Suicide mode for unhooked riding
- Your mission control system features a metal safety ring that allows you to connect the safety leash in suicide mode for unhooked tricks.
- In this mode, the kite will stay powered if you let go of the bar, so the full safety function is bypassed.
- To set it up, insert the safety ring into the chicken loop with the curve facing downwards, sliding it through the oblong hole provided.
- Reset the quick release with a click-in, then attach the carabiner of your safety leash to the safety ring. 1 2

Warning: Suicide mode is only for experienced riders. If you drop the control system in suicide mode, the kite will not flag out on a single front line, which greatly increases the risk of accidents. Always switch back to the standard safety mode after your unhooked session.
infinity system
- Your MISSION control system features an infinity system that lets you untwist your lines after rotations or kiteloops during your session.
- The separated centerpiece automatically untwists the front lines when you pull the bar stick to the infinity swivel above the quick release.

We recommend rinsing the infinity system with fresh water after your session to remove sand, salt, and dirt. This ensures smooth function and longer durability.
trim while riding
Your MISSION control system allows you to fine-tune the kite’s power while riding. The clam cleat adjuster above the bar lets you depower or power up the kite to match wind conditions, your board, and your style.
Depowering with the clam cleat adjuster
Depowering reduces the kite’s pull and gives you more control in strong or gusty winds.
- Grab the handle above the bar stick and pull the adjuster line towards your body to reduce the power of your kite. Let go of the adjuster line and it will lock automatically into the clam cleat teeth.

Powering up with the clam cleat adjuster
Powering up increases the kite’s pull and is useful in lighter winds or when you need more drive.
- Pull the adjuster line a bit upwards and release it from the clam cleat teeth. Let the line slide upwards to lengthen the front lines and generate more power, then secure it back into the clam cleat.

control system care
With a few simple habits you can extend the life of your control system and keep it working smoothly.
- Rinse with fresh water: After each session, especially in salt water or sandy conditions, rinse the bar, lines, swivel, and quick release with clean water. Let everything dry in the shade.
- Avoid heat: Do not leave your control system in a hot car or under direct heat sources – this can weaken the lines and damage the plastic parts.
- Line care: Keep lines free of knots, cuts, and tangles. Replace them immediately if they show signs of wear.
- Check moving parts: Inspect the quick release, swivel, depower line, and clam cleat regularly. Sand or salt deposits can affect their function – keep them clean.
- Storage: Store your control system in a cool, dry place. Avoid sharp bends in the lines when packing. Never ride with damaged lines, a worn depower rope, or a jammed quick release – replace or repair before your next session.
maintenance & repairs
- Regular maintenance keeps your MISSION control system safe and reliable. Most parts are designed to last for many sessions, but salt, sand, and heavy use will cause wear over time. Take a few minutes to check your bar and lines before each ride and replace any parts that show damage.
- Always replace worn or damaged parts before your next session. Never ride with improvised or incompatible parts, as this can compromise safety and performance.
Checking line length
Even small differences in line length can affect how your kite flies. Regularly check that all four flying lines are equal and free from stretch or uneven wear.
- Secure the ends of all four lines to a fixed point (e.g. a rod so that they are threaded evenly).
- Walk the bar back until the lines are fully tensioned.
- Pull the bar evenly towards you and compare the lengths. All four should be the same.
- If you notice differences, use the knots on the pigtails or the line extensions to correct them. Damaged or excessively stretched lines should be replaced.

Check your lines frequently – especially if your kite pulls to one side, feels unbalanced, or doesn’t depower correctly.
