    • 802.11n Channel Width (5.2 GHz)
    • 802.11n Mode
    • Ad Hoc Channel 802.11b/g Ad Hoc QoS Mode
  • 802.11n Mode:
    • The 802.11n standard increases data throughput by adding MIMO technology. Enable or disable the mode for the WiFi adapter; Enabled is the default setting. Security settings must be configured appropriately for higher transfer rates.
  • High Throughput Mode:
    • Administrators can enable or disable support for high throughput mode to manage power consumption and avoid conflicts or compatibility issues with other devices or bands.
  • Quality of Service (QoS):
    • QoS control in ad hoc networks allows prioritization of traffic based on classification. Enabling WMM (Wi-Fi Multimedia) certification supports priority tagging and queuing capabilities for WiFi networks.

FAQs

  • Q: What are the recommended security settings for achieving high transfer rates on 802.11n connections?
    • A: To achieve transfer rates greater than 54 Mbps on 802.11n connections, it is recommended to select WPA2 AES security. However, for network setup and troubleshooting purposes, no security (None) can be selected.
  • Q: How can I manage power consumption and avoid conflicts with other devices using the adapter?
    • A: Administrators can enable or disable support for high throughput mode to optimize power consumption and prevent conflicts with other bands or devices.
  • Q: What is Quality of Service (QoS) control and how does it benefit ad hoc networks?
    • A: QoS in ad hoc networks provides traffic prioritization based on classification, ensuring smoother data flow and efficiency. Enabling WMM certification supports priority tagging and queuing capabilities for better network performance.

Because wireless LANs are generally unlicensed devices t hat share spect rum wit h radars, satellites, and other licensed and unlicensed devices, it is som etim es necessary to dynam ically detect, avoid, and lim it usage to avoid interference with these devices. I n m any instances I ntel is required to provide test data to prove regional and local com pliance to regional and governm ental regulations before certification or approval to use the product is grant ed. I nt el’s wireless LAN’s EEPROM, firm ware, and soft ware driver are designed t o carefully cont rol param et ers t hat affect radio operat ion and t o ensure elect rom agnet ic com pliance ( EMC) . These param et ers include, wit hout lim it at ion, RF power, spect rum usage, channel scanning, and hum an exposure.
For t hese reasons I nt el cannot perm it any m anipulat ion by t hird part ies of t he soft ware provided in binary form at wit h t he wireless LAN adapt ers ( e.g., t he EEPROM and firm ware) . Furt herm ore, if you use any pat ches, ut ilit ies, or code wit h t he I nt el wireless LAN adapt ers t hat have been m anipulat ed by an unaut horized part y ( i.e., pat ches, utilities, or code ( including open source code m odifications) which have not been validated by I ntel) , ( i) you will be solely responsible for ensuring the regulatory com pliance of the products, ( ii) I ntel will bear no liability, under any theory of liability for any issues associated with the m odified products, including without lim itation, claim s under the warranty and/ or issues arising from regulatory non- com pliance, and ( iii) I ntel will not provide or be required to assist in providing support to any third parties for such m odified products.
N ot e : Many regulat ory agencies consider Wireless LAN adapt ers t o be ” m odules” , and accordingly, condit ion syst em level regulatory approval upon receipt and review of test data docum enting that the antennas and system configurat ion do not cause t he EMC and radio operat ion t o be non- com pliant .

To reduce pot ent ial radio int erference t o other users, the antenna type and its gain should be so chosen that the equivalent isotropically radiated power ( e.i.r.p.) is not m ore than that necessary for successful com m unication.
