IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed. These instructions should be saved for future reference:

  • Read and familiarize yourself with all operating instructions before using this fridge.
  • Before plugging your unit into the mains, visually check that the unit is intact and has not suffered any transit damage.
  • If this appliance is to replace an old refrigerator with a lock, please remove the lock or door before disposal.
  • Your old appliance may contain insulation, gases and refrigerant that need to be disposed of correctly. Please ensure that the refrigerant circuit is not damaged before the appliance is disposed of. If in any doubt contact your local authority for advice.
  • This appliance may contain the refrigerant isobutene (R600a).
    This is a natural gas with a high level of environmental compatibility, however, caution is required as isobutene is a flammable gas. It is essential that refrigerant tubes are not damaged during transit or installation of the appliance. In the event that the refrigerant circuit is damaged, avoid naked flames and sources of ignition and ventilate the room in which the appliance is situated.
  • Do not damage the refrigerant circuit
  • Following installation ensure the power cable is not trapped beneath the appliance.
  • This appliance can be used by children aged from 8 years and above and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved.
    Children shall not play with the appliance. Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children unless they are older than 8 and supervised
  • Do not use mechanical devices or other means to accelerate the defrosting process, other than those recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Do not use electrical appliances inside the food storage compartment of the appliance, unless they are of a type recommended by the manufacturer.
  • This appliance is for household use only.
  • Keep all ventilation openings clear of obstruction.
  • Do not store explosive substances such as aerosol cans with flammable propellants in this appliance.
  • It is imperative to unplug the power cord after the appliance has been used, before it is cleaned and whilst being repaired.
  • Repairs to electrical appliances should only be performed by a qualified electrician. Improper repairs may place user at serious risk
  • Do not operate this appliance with a damaged plug or cord, after a malfunction or after being dropped or damaged in any way.
  • Regular, periodic checks should be carried out on the mains cable to ensure no damage is evident. Should there be any signs of damage the appliance should not be used.
  • Do not allow the mains cable to hang over sharp edges or come in contact with hot surfaces.
  • Do not run the mains cable under carpets, rugs, etc.

Installation

  • IMPORTANT! This appliance must be left to stand in an upright position for a minimum of 4 hours prior to switching on for the first time.
  • Please read these operating instructions thoroughly and keep them in a safe place for future reference.
  • Remove all packing materials and discard responsibly.
  • Clean the interior of the appliance with lukewarm water containing a small amount of bicarbonate of soda (5ml to 0.5 l of water)
  • Position the appliance out of direct sunshine.
  • Do not position next to a cooker or other sources of heat such as a radiator.
  • If positioned next to another fridge or freezer, leave a minimum gap of 2cm between the appliances to avoid condensation.
  • A clearance of 50mm should be left above the appliance, if this is not possible 25mm of clearance should be left on each side of the appliance.
  • Ensure there is a clearance between the condenser and rear wall.
  • Do not place heavy items on top of the appliance.
  • Position the appliance on a solid flat surface.
  • This appliance must be level. Adjust the level by screwing the adjustable feet up or down as required, using your fingers or a suitable spanner.
  • Ensure that the power supply is in accordance with the rating plate found at the rear of the appliance.
  • Do not push objects into any openings as damage to the appliance and/or electric shock may occur.
  • Do not use any accessories or attachments with this appliance other than those supplied or recommended by supplier.

Switching on the appliance

Allow the appliance to stand for a minimum of 4 hours after installation.

Plug in the appliance and switch on the mains supply.

Set the thermostat to the required setting (The temperature selector is situated to the right of the icebox, setting 0 = off, setting 3 or 4 are most commonly used for normal operation, however this can be changed to your own preferred temperature, with 5 being the coldest setting).

Leave the appliance for 4 hours to reach temperature before use.

NOTE: During periods of high ambient temperatures (ie hot sunny days) it may be necessary to set the temperature to a higher setting than is normally used.

Operation

You may hear faint gurgling or bubbling sounds as the refrigerant is pumped around the cooling circuit, this, along with the slight hum of the compressor is normal and will stop and start as the thermostat operates.

In the event of a power failure

If there is a power failure keep the door closed if possible to maintain the internal temperature. After power is restored it may take some time to return to the set temperature level.

Energy saving advice

  • Do not install the appliance close to sources of heat such as cookers or radiators.
  • Locate the appliance in a well ventilated area.
  • Ensure the door seal is clean and there are no tears or rips.
  • Do not overload the fridge.
  • Never put hot or warm foods into the fridge, allow to cool to room temperature first.

Cleaning and maintenance

WARNING: Before any maintenance or cleaning is carried out disconnect the appliance from the mains supply.

Internal cleaning 

Clean the interior and accessories with warm water and bicarbonate of soda (5ml to 0.5l of water). Rinse and dry thoroughly. Do not use detergents, abrasives, highly perfumed cleaning products, wax polishes or cleaning products containing bleach or alcohol.

External cleaning 

Wash the outer cabinet with warm soapy water. Do NOT use abrasive cleaners. There may be some sharp edges on the underside of the appliance so care should be taken when cleaning. Once or twice a year clean the rear of the appliance and the compressor using a soft brush or vacuum cleaner as an accumulation of dust will affect the performance of the appliance and cause increased energy consumption.

Defrosting

If the buildup of ice in the freezer box exceeds 3-5mm, empty the compartment and switch off the appliance, leave the door open and allow the ice to melt. Do not use sharp objects to remove the ice.

Clean and dry the interior, close the door and turn on the power, the appliance will start to operate but will take some time to reach the preset  temperature.

If the appliance is not in use for some time, disconnect from the mains supply and leave the door slightly ajar until next use.

Changing the light bulb 

Switch off the power supply

Remove the screw from the light cover and remove the cover.

Unscrew the bulb from the light fitting.

Replace the bulb with a suitable replacement (SES E14 10W).

Refit the cover and switch the appliance back on.

Reversing the door 

The door can be reversed from right hand hinged to left hand hinged if required and vice versa

Warning: When reversing the door the appliance must be disconnected from the mains supply

  • Remove the retaining screws and lift off the top cover.
  • Remove the screws and upper hinge assembly then lift off the door from the lower hinge assembly.
  • Remove the screws, lower hinge and foot assembly. Remove the hinge pin from the lower hinge, turn the hinge over and refit the pin into the same hole.
  • Remove the left foot and refit on the right hand side.
  • Fit the door onto the lower hinge and refit the upper hinge , fixing to the predrilled holes on the left hand side of the cabinet. Tighten the screws.
  • Ensure the door is correctly aligned and the seal fits correctly
  • Replace and secure the top cover.
