Overview and Components
The Pulsar PCE6150 is a portable horizontal air compressor engineered for workshop, pneumatic tool, and inflation applications. It features a 15-gallon steel air tank with a protective finish, an electric induction motor providing 3.5 peak horsepower, dual quick-connect couplers, and dual pressure gauges.
-
Power Switch (EZ On/Off): Controls electrical input to start and stop the motor.
-
Pressure Switch: Automatically cycles the compressor on at cut-in pressure (95 PSI) and off at cut-out pressure (115 PSI).
-
Tank Pressure Gauge: Displays the internal stored air pressure within the 15-gallon tank.
-
Line Pressure Gauge: Displays the regulated discharge air pressure delivered to connected air lines.
-
Air Pressure Regulator: Adjustable rotary knob used to preset the working pressure supplied to tools.
-
Dual Quick-Connect Couplers: High-flow push-to-connect female couplers allowing two air tools to be operated.
-
Safety Relief Valve: Factory-calibrated valve designed to discharge air automatically if tank pressure exceeds safe operating parameters.
-
Tank Drain Valve (Petcock): Manual moisture drain located at the base of the tank to release accumulated water condensation.
-
Transport Components: Ergonomic steel handle, two large rolling wheels, and rubber vibration-dampening feet.
Safety Guidelines and Precautions
Improper operation, tampering, or neglect of this equipment can result in severe personal injury or property damage. Review all safety guidelines before assembly, connection, or operation.
-
Risk of Bursting: Never weld, drill, modify, or attempt field repairs on the air tank. Always drain moisture after every work cycle to avoid internal corrosion.
-
Pressure Safety: Never tamper with, adjust, or bypass the factory-calibrated pressure switch or safety relief valve.
-
Piping Standards: Never use PVC or general plastic piping for pressurized air lines. Use rated rubber hoses, metal lines, or galvanized steel fittings.
-
Eye and Face Protection: Always wear ANSI Z87.1 approved safety glasses with side shields when operating pneumatic machinery.
-
Hearing Protection: Wear ANSI S3.19 compliant ear protection during extended compressor running periods.
-
Inhalation Warning: Never breathe air directly discharged from the compressor; it is not filtered or treated for human breathing applications.
-
Flammable Environments: Electric induction motors produce normal operational arcing sparks. Never spray flammable solvents or paint near the motor unit.
Setup and Assembly
Before operating the compressor for the first time, complete the hardware inspection and assemble the mobility kit.
-
Inspect the air compressor for shipping damage, dents, stripped threads, or loose fasteners.
-
Attach the transport wheels to the axle brackets using the supplied bolts and washers, and verify that the wheels rotate smoothly.
-
Fasten the rubber foot bumpers to the bottom front bracket of the tank to isolate vibration.
-
Place the air compressor horizontally on a firm, level, dry surface at least 12 inches away from walls or obstructions to facilitate cooling airflow.
-
Inspect the oil level in the pump crankcase prior to initial power connection.
Electrical Requirements
The Pulsar PCE6150 requires a dedicated standard 120 V, 60 Hz single-phase AC circuit rated for a minimum of 15 Amps. Avoid sharing the branch circuit with heavy electric equipment or appliances.
-
Grounding: The power cord must be inserted into a matching three-prong grounded outlet.
-
Extension Cords: Avoid the use of extension cords where possible. If an extension cord must be used, utilize a heavy-duty, 3-wire grounding cable rated at 14 AWG up to 100 feet in length.
Initial Pump Break-In Procedure
To bed internal pump bearings and piston rings, perform the initial 15-minute break-in before connecting tools or allowing tank pressure to accumulate.
-
Set the power switch to the OFF position.
-
Locate the tank drain petcock at the bottom of the air receiver and turn it counterclockwise to open it fully.
-
Insert the grounded power cord plug into an authorized 120 V AC outlet.
-
Move the power switch to the ON position and permit the compressor to run continuously for 15 minutes with the petcock open to circulate air without pressure resistance.
-
After 15 minutes of continuous operation, rotate the power switch to OFF.
-
Turn the drain petcock clockwise until firmly closed.
-
Switch the compressor back ON and allow the pump to pressurize the receiver until the automatic pressure switch stops the motor at cut-out pressure (115 PSI).
Operating Instructions
-
Confirm that the tank drain petcock is tightly sealed.
-
Connect the pneumatic air hose to one of the regulated quick-connect brass couplers by pushing the male plug firmly into the coupler until it clicks into place.
-
Plug the compressor power cable into a dedicated 120 V AC electrical outlet.
-
Turn the power switch to the ON position to start the electric motor and pump.
-
Allow the tank pressure gauge to build up until the pressure switch automatically shuts off the motor at 115 PSI.
-
Rotate the air pressure regulator knob clockwise to increase line pressure or counterclockwise to decrease it, referencing the regulated line pressure gauge to match tool ratings.
-
Operate your pneumatic tool according to its operational specifications.
-
When the job is complete, turn the power switch to OFF and disconnect the power cord from the electrical receptacle.
Maintenance and Storage
Regular inspection and routine maintenance prevent pump wear, valve sticking, and internal tank corrosion.
-
Drain Condensation Daily: After each use, turn off the compressor, pull the ring on the safety relief valve to reduce pressure below 20 PSI, and open the drain petcock beneath the tank to expel accumulated moisture.
-
Clean Air Filter: Periodically inspect the intake air filter element on the pump head; blow away dust or replace it if clogged.
-
Inspect Hardware: Check that all external bolts, pipe fittings, discharge tubes, and electrical cords remain securely tightened and undamaged.
-
Long-Term Storage: Disconnect all hoses, drain all air and water from the receiver, close the drain valve, and store the unit indoors in a clean, dry, protected location.
Troubleshooting
|
